Chapter 72 - Chapter 67 : The Final Clash of Iron and Void ( Season 2 ) #46

The heavy bronze doors rolled aside with a low, echoing groan, revealing the narrow subterranean passageway bathed in the pale, cold glow of wall-mounted spiritual lanterns.

Railin stepped smoothly over the threshold. His dark navy-blue robes hung perfectly still around his frame, untouched by dust or sweat. His hands remained loosely tucked into his wide sleeves, his footfalls silent against the damp granite floor.

The outer venue steward—a junior disciple in pale blue robes—shrank back against the damp stone wall as Railin passed. The young man's knees shook, his breath catching in his throat as he kept his eyes lowered to the floor. Having witnessed Mo Ji's shriveled, bloodless corpse being carried away on a wooden stretcher less than an hour ago, the steward looked at Railin not as a fellow disciple, but as an ancient, apex predator walking freely among sheep.

Railin did not spare him a glance. He walked with measured, unhurried precision down the long, arching corridor toward the bright, sunlit mouth of the arena exit.

Inside his body, the newly consolidated power settled with absolute, terrifying stability.

In his lower dantian, the void vortex turned with a slow, heavy rhythm, its pitch-black energy compressed into a dense, liquid core at the absolute Peak of Mid-Stage Three Foundation Establishment. The massive Stage Five qi extracted from Mo Ji had been thoroughly digested, its aggressive shadow attributes stripped away and converted into pure, unblemished void essence. His meridians hummed like reinforced dark jade, capable of channeling massive bursts of energy without the slightest risk of backlash.

In his upper dantian, the three microscopic Soul-Piercing Needles hovered in a tight, silent triad around his consciousness. Having consumed the residual soul-slicing intent of Mo Ji's Earth-tier blade, the needles carried an invisible, razor-sharp edge that vibrated in pitch-black silence.

Railin was completely primed.

As he reached the end of the stone passageway where the corridor opened into the bright sunlight, a towering figure stood waiting in the archway.

Senior Brother Zhao Ling stood motionless, his broad back framed by the blazing blue sky outside. He wore a simple, unadorned white martial robe trimmed with navy steel-thread—the mark of the Heavenly Sword Peak's top direct disciple. Across his broad back rested his legendary weapon: a six-foot-long, unpolished iron broadsword known as the Mountain-Cleaving Edge.

The blade possessed no intricate runes, no embedded spirit gems, and no flashy elemental arrays. It was a massive slab of dark, high-density black iron, forged through thousands of hours of manual striking. Yet, radiating from Zhao Ling's frame was an overwhelming, physical pressure—a dense, unyielding Heavenly Sword Intent that caused the very air around the doorway to hum like a drawn bowstring.

As Railin's footsteps stopped three paces behind him, Zhao Ling slowly turned his head. His features were sharply chiseled, his dark eyes firm, steady, and filled with an ancient, uncompromising righteousness.

"Your breath is completely calm," Zhao Ling said softly, his deep, metallic voice echoing against the stone walls. "You consumed a Stage Five core, absorbed a residual Earth-tier sword intent, and consolidated your realm in less than an hour... yet there is not a single thread of chaotic qi in your pulse."

Railin met Zhao Ling's gaze neutrally, his face an unreadable mask. "The void does not struggle to hold what is poured into it, Senior Brother. It simply swallows."

Zhao Ling's right hand moved slowly, his broad palm resting upon the worn leather hilt of his broadsword.

CLANG—!

A soft, clear ring of metal resonated from the sheath, and a thin line of blinding, golden sword-light flared around Zhao Ling's fingers! The sheer sharpness of his presence sliced clean through the heavy, humid air of the corridor, leaving a faint scent of scorched ozone.

"I have practiced the Sword Path for eighteen years," Zhao Ling said, looking directly into Railin's pitch-black eyes. "I carved my sword heart out of raw granite through bitter winters in the high ice peaks. I do not believe in shortcuts, nor do I believe that taboo, devouring paths can outshine pure, unyielding discipline. In this final match, I will prove that your void has a limit."

Railin's lips curved into a faint, dark arc beneath the shadow of his collar.

"Many have sought my limit, Senior Brother," Railin whispered smoothly, stepping past Zhao Ling into the blazing sunlight of the arena. "Every single one of them became the stone upon which I sharpened my edge. Do not disappoint me."

Zhao Ling did not speak another word. He gripped his heavy iron hilt, his white robes snapping violently in the wind as he stepped out onto the granite stage behind Railin.

BOOM—!

The moment both combatants stepped into the sunlight of the Central Sun-Moon Arena, the collective sound of forty thousand spectators erupted into a deafening, sky-shaking roar!

The atmosphere inside the colossal stone amphitheater was thick with an agonizing, electric tension. Unlike the previous matches, where disciples cheered, waved banners, or made loud monetary bets, the crowd sat on the very edges of their seats, their faces pale and strained.

On the eastern edge of the stage stood Zhao Ling—the undisputed pillar of Heavenly Sword Peak, representing the absolute pinnacle of traditional sword mastery, upright discipline, and righteous strength.

On the western edge stood Railin—the mysterious, terrifying dark horse of Ice Mystic Peak, whose dark devouring techniques had slaughtered every rival in his path, leaving behind dried, withered husks.

This was not merely a championship match for the top spot in the Inner Sect Assembly. It was a absolute clash between two fundamentally opposed paths: The Unyielding Righteous Sword versus The Primordial Devouring Void.

High above the ring, in the grand spectator pavilion, the ambient temperature remained bitter cold.

Peak Master Bing Lian sat silently upon her frost-carved throne, her white veil fluttering gently in the frigid breeze generated by her domain. Her azure eyes looked down at Railin with calm, unreadable depth. Beside her, the shattered debris of Grand Elder Shu-Lin's ebony chair had been cleared away, but the dark, murderous aura emanating from the Shadow Moon Peak elders' balcony remained suffocating. Grand Elder Shu-Lin sat upon a newly brought iron chair, her bloodshot eyes locked onto Railin like poisonous daggers, her withered fingers twitching with suppressed malice.

In the center of the shattered, spell-reinforced granite stage, the senior Grand Referee from the Enforcement Hall stood with his golden ceremonial staff raised high into the air. He looked at Zhao Ling, then turned to look at Railin, verifying their readiness with a tense, rigid nod.

The referee took a deep breath, his voice injected with massive Stage Six spiritual energy as it boomed across the mountain valley:

"THE FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH OF THE SUN-MOON ACADEMY INNER SECT GRAND ASSEMBLY... COMMENCES NOW!"

WOOOOOOO—!

The ancient bronze assembly horn echoed off the surrounding cliffs!

THUD.

The instant the horn faded, Zhao Ling took a single step forward.

He did not draw his weapon immediately. He simply planted his front foot onto the granite floor. Yet, the moment his sole touched the stone, an invisible, catastrophic wave of force radiated outward!

BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!

The solid granite floor between Zhao Ling and Railin shattered in a perfectly straight line! A forty-foot-long trench burst open in the stone as hundreds of microscopic, golden sword-qi needles materialized out of thin air, shooting straight toward Railin's heart like a golden storm!

This was Heavenly Sword Intent—Domain Formation! Without even unsheathing his broadsword, Zhao Ling had turned the ambient air itself into a lethal forest of cutting metal!

Railin did not retreat.

His pitch-black eyes flared with a brief, cold light. He casually raised his left sleeve, sweeping his pale hand through the air in a slow, circular motion.

SZZZZZ!

A five-foot ring of pitch-black void energy manifested in front of his chest! The moment the hundreds of golden sword-qi needles struck the black ring, they did not explode, nor did they shatter. The moment they touched the void, their golden light was instantly drained, their physical structure dissolving into raw, unrefined spirit particles that were swallowed whole into Railin's lower dantian!

CLANG!

Zhao Ling's eyes sharpened. In the exact millisecond Railin's void ring swallowed the initial wave, Zhao Ling's broad frame blurred into a streak of blinding white light!

He crossed a distance of fifty feet in less than a heartbeat!

CLANK-BOOM!

The massive, unpolished iron broadsword flew from its scabbard across his back! Held in both hands, the heavy blade swung down from above in a raw, terrifying arc—a technique known across the academy as the Mountain-Cleaving Chop!

The broadsword carried no fiery element, no lightning, and no flashy spiritual arrays. It was pure, unadulterated physical weight combined with dense, Stage Five sword intent—a blow capable of severing a small mountain peak in two!

The air beneath the descending blade compressed so violently that a loud vacuum screech echoed through the stadium, cracking the ring floor twenty feet in advance!

Railin's eyes narrowed slightly. He recognized immediately that this strike could not be casually absorbed by a simple void ring—the physical momentum alone, carried by a Stage Five powerhouse using a massive iron weapon, would crush his skeletal frame before the energy could be fully digested!

SWISH!

Railin's figure flickered like a phantom!

Phantom-Void Step!

He instantly shifted three feet to the left, his navy robes brushing against the edge of the broadsword's wind press.

BOOM—!

Zhao Ling's massive iron blade struck the solid granite stage!

A shockwave of compressed air and shattered rock exploded in a thirty-foot radius! A deep, jagged crater tore open in the center of the ring, sending massive stone slabs flying into the air!

Without a single moment of hesitation or recovery lag, Zhao Ling executed a seamless, flawless fluid pivot! Using the downward momentum of the heavy broadsword, he spun his torso three hundred and sixty degrees, sweeping the massive six-foot iron blade horizontally toward Railin's waist in a devastating, bone-crushing follow-up!

"Sever!" Zhao Ling roared, his voice echoing like an iron bell!

The horizontal arc of the broadsword produced a roaring crescent of golden sword-light that expanded to twenty feet wide, completely sealing off all angles of evasion!

Railin, mid-air from his short dodge, raised his right arm.

CRACKLE!

Dark, jade-textured void energy coated his pale hand and forearm, forming an intricate, swirling gauntlet of dense, compressed dark qi! He did not draw a weapon. He thrust his bare palm directly into the path of the roaring golden sword crescent!

BOOM-CLANG—!

An explosive sound of metal striking metal echoed across the entire arena!

The forty thousand spectators gasped in absolute disbelief as Railin's bare, void-coated palm met the cutting edge of Zhao Ling's golden sword-light head-on! Sparks of golden light and dark void particles violently sprayed across the ring like fireworks!

Railin's navy robes whipped backward violently under the sheer kinetic impact, his feet sliding three inches across the granite floor, leaving two deep grooves in the stone.

However, his right palm did not tear! His fingers did not break!

SZZZZZZ!

The moment the golden sword-light made contact with Railin's palm, the Ashen Devouring Technique erupted at full capacity! The golden sword intent began to rapidly wither, its sharp, metallic energy being aggressively pulled into Railin's meridian system, where it was instantly crushed and converted into pure void base!

Zhao Ling's face finally changed! He felt a terrifying, magnetic suction force gripping his broadsword through the sword-light, attempting to drag his very cultivation base straight out through his arms!

"Unyielding Sword Heart—Break!" Zhao Ling bellowed, his eyes blazing with golden light!

BOOM!

Instead of pulling his weapon back, Zhao Ling detonated a burst of pure, unrefined sword-qi from his dantian directly down the length of his blade, forcibly breaking the dark magnetic grip of Railin's devouring palm!

The resulting force blasted both combatants ten paces backward!

Railin landed gracefully on his feet at the edge of the crater. He brought his right hand back into his sleeve, flexing his fingers slightly. His palm was uninjured, though a faint line of white friction heat lingered on his skin.

Across the ring, Zhao Ling stood in a low, wide combat stance, holding his massive iron broadsword with two hands. His chest heaved slightly, his sharp eyes locked onto Railin with an intensity that seemed to burn through the air.

"You caught my Mountain-Cleaving Chop with your bare hand," Zhao Ling said, his voice dropping an octave as his golden aura flared to its absolute maximum. "Your body refinement art is far more horrifying than anyone in the academy realizes. But my Heavenly Sword Intent is not something that can be so easily digested."

Railin looked at Zhao Ling, his pitch-black pupils reflecting no light whatsoever. A cold, predatory smile slowly spread across his pale face.

"Your sword is heavy, Senior Brother," Railin murmured, his voice carrying clearly across the quiet arena. "It carries honor, discipline, and years of relentless labor. It is... magnificent."

Railin slowly took his hands out of his wide sleeves.

For the first time since the Inner Sect Assembly began, Railin did not keep his arms hidden. He held his pale hands out in front of him, his fingers forming an ancient, arcane seal.

"However," Railin whispered softly, his voice dropping into a dark, echoing cadence that vibrated through the underground bedrock, "the heavier the stone, the deeper it sinks into the void."

BOOM—!

A suffocating, pitch-black aura erupted from Railin's body like a rising pillar of volcanic ash!

The ambient light inside the Central Arena dimmed dramatically, as if the sun itself was being drawn into his frame! The air pressure inside the stadium plummeted, causing the forty thousand spectators to gasp for breath as a cold, terrifying dread settled over the entire valley!

In his lower dantian, the Peak Mid-Stage Three Void Core roared at full operational capacity!

Railin took a slow step forward.

"Show me the full extent of your Heavenly Sword, Senior Brother," Railin said, his pitch-black pupils glowing with a faint, crimson-tinted void light. "Let us see if your blade can cut through the dark.
