Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: A New Operation

"Hey, Jack? Today's work is canceled, you can rest at home."

"Boss, wasn't there an appointment today?" Jack paused, as the appointment had been made a week ago.

"They have a new arrangement. They just informed us today that the appointment is canceled. Rich people are like that, they just do whatever they feel like."

"No way? I'm all ready for it."

"Jack, take the day off. Consider it compensation."

Jack thought for a moment, then cursed the rich under his breath, "Got it, I won't go to work today."

"Alright, take a good rest and don't worry about the company's matters."

"Understood." Jack hung up the phone, snuggling back into his bed. Since he had the day off, he decided to indulge himself and sleep in.

Using his ventriloquism skills to trick the security company staff into staying home, Liu A'dou disguised himself as Jack, easily took items from the security company, and drove the company car to the wealthy client's house.

This was nothing difficult; for Liu A'dou, this kind of infiltration held no real challenge or sense of accomplishment.

The wealthy man's house was exactly what you'd expect from someone of his stature. The villa was filled with treasures, from priceless artworks to antiques. However, this time the target was the 'Angel's Wing,' a green gemstone stored in the villa's collection room.

The collection room was more like a giant safe, with walls made of over a meter thick concrete blocks. The only metal door was equipped with high-tech security, including a fingerprint sensor and voice recognition electronic lock.

However, the villa's security system had been set up by a single company, and Liu A'dou was there to work his magic.

The villa, or rather the manor, was not lacking in grandeur—it was on par with Wayne Manor. Entering through the front gate led to a large hall, with pathways leading in various directions. On the left were the kitchen and dining room, while the right had the living room and game room. The stairs at the front led up to the bedrooms and collection room. The collection room was located on the second floor, first room to the right, and was equipped with four cameras. That was just inside the villa.

Outside the villa, the enormous courtyard housed even more cameras, and there were cameras installed on the roof too. Not only was entering the villa difficult, but even getting close was a challenge.

Using a triangular glider to land on the roof didn't work either. It became clear that a real on-site inspection was necessary. Liu A'dou confirmed the villa's security level, and the plan was becoming more specific.

The two most important steps in the plan were getting close to the villa and unlocking the door. Liu A'dou had already figured out how to handle both, then quickly left the villa's management and returned to the security company without anyone noticing that he had been posing as an employee.

The next day, Liu A'dou sent out the preheist notice, waiting for the day after tomorrow to make his move. The day after tomorrow was October 2nd, and he planned to strike in the early morning.

However, the preheist notice sank without a trace, making no waves at all. The police took no action, and no reporters had received the news. This was unusual for Liu A'dou, and he wasn't sure what had happened.

This was not a good sign, so that night, Liu A'dou secretly returned to the vicinity of the wealthy villa to check things out.

The villa looked the same as before, and Liu A'dou even began to suspect that his preheist notice had somehow been lost along the way. He settled down, hiding in a corner, and used binoculars to observe the villa.

Finally, he saw an armed personnel step out of the courtyard. The person definitely wasn't a police officer. Their scruffy appearance and brightly colored hair clearly indicated they were part of a gang.

"Well, this is bad news," Liu A'dou muttered to himself. He realized that the wealthy man was likely working with the mafia. Instead of calling the police, he had chosen to use gang members to protect his property.

Compared to the police, the mafia had no discipline. If they saw Kaitou Kid, they would definitely open fire immediately. At that moment, Liu A'dou's life would be in danger. Truly, Gotham City's simple and straightforward people—who would have thought a wealthy man would collude with illegal armed forces?

This made Liu A'dou reconsider his actions carefully.

The plan needed adjustments, but it would absolutely not be canceled.

On the day of the operation, Liu A'dou pretended to feel dizzy and rested early, leaving a dummy on the bed just in case Iseline came to check on him. He then entered his secret room, put on his Kaitou Kid outfit, and this time, he not only had his usual equipment but also a new gadget, ready for action. He emerged from the roof, using his magic card gun to shoot a rope, quickly leaving Chinatown.

Since the wealthy man was preparing for a grand feast, Liu A'dou didn't mind having a little fun as well.

Meanwhile, Batman, who was still searching for Penguin, discovered a new lead. "Tell me, why would the Black Panther's gang buy so many weapons from you?"

The bald old man's hands, stained black from handling gunpowder, had only a few yellow teeth left, making his smile grotesque. "Batman, don't arrest me, you know, Old Bana doesn't lie to Batman."

Old Bana was a craftsman who had once been famous in his youth for breaking out of prison with a homemade gun made from a hollow bed frame. But now, he was old and only made a living by selling guns. Batman had arrested him several times, but because the old man was sick, he always got bail. Batman had simply started using him as bait, questioning anyone who came here to buy weapons.

"Don't lie to me!" Batman's voice was like a demonic tone, his narrowed eyes emitting a cold light that made it impossible to tell a lie.

Although Old Bana couldn't go to prison, he still feared Batman. "I'll tell you, I'll tell you. The Black Panthers got a job, they're working as bodyguards."

"?" The Black Panther's gang was notorious for being a violent group, bodyguards? Batman didn't believe it. "Tell me the truth!"

"I'm telling the truth. A rich man hired them to protect his property. It seems like he's being targeted by some thieves." Old Bana didn't follow current events, so he didn't know anything about Kaitou Kid.

But Batman immediately thought of the white thief, "Kaitou Kid?"

"Yes, yes, that's the name. I heard he even sent out a pre-heist notice. Very arrogant," Old Bana said.

"That rich man, who is he?" Batman asked.

Old Bana gave all the details, which finally satisfied Batman.

Batman released the old man, having gotten the information he needed, and turned to leave. But the old man's voice came from behind, "Batman, you should learn how to respect your elders."

"When you give up making guns, I'll consider it," Batman said without turning back.

Old Bana wasn't about to give up. It was a way for him to make money and enjoy his hobby, filling up his old age. Why give it up? He wouldn't stop his current work just because of Batman's words. Besides, only by making weapons would people come to find him, making his lonely old life more interesting.

The black Batmobile flashed like a black lightning bolt, speeding toward its destination. Batman was determined to stop Kaitou Kid. The Black Panthers were all retired Marines, and with enough equipment, they could even take over Gotham City's police station. Their fighting power should not be underestimated.
