As for why this happens—Blaine's reasoning is clear. After all, Ultron is merely an independent consciousness, not a human being, and doesn't even have a physical body of his own. More precisely, Ultron is just a piece of code, a string of data. Spiritual seeds can be planted into another's soul, but those in another's mind can also be implanted into Ultron's system, thanks to his self-created consciousness.
However, this particular strand of consciousness is weak, which in turn weakens the spiritual seeds. More importantly, Ultron keeps transferring his consciousness, forcing the spiritual seeds left in each previous body to transfer as well. Through this endless relocation, the seeds become scattered across multiple hosts, and naturally, their power diminishes.
Blaine looked at Ultron and saw a few puffs of smoke escape from his head—as if the robot had just "farted" a few times—black smoke seeping from the gaps in his metallic shell.
Ultron shook his head as if nothing had happened, his mechanical eyes burning with determination as he turned toward Vision and Blaine once more.
Just as Blaine prepared to strike him down again, Vision raised his head sharply. The Mind Stone on his forehead flared with blinding light.
He's trying to steal my spotlight, Blaine thought. Forget it—young people like to show off. Let them. He leaned back, content to watch the show. After all, it wasn't like he wasn't getting paid. Why not enjoy the spectacle?
Ultron tried to resist, but just as he was about to flee, two more beams struck him.
At some point, Thor had joined the fray—Mjolnir crackling with thunder as Tony's laser beams blazed beside him. The combined assault of lightning and repulsors forced Ultron from offense to defense in an instant. His metal frame began to glow red-hot, the outer plating showing signs of melting.
Finally, the three of them stopped their attacks—whether from exhaustion or drained power, Blaine couldn't tell. Even so, Ultron's body was barely holding together.
"You know, in hindsight…" Ultron's voice crackled as one arm drooped uselessly. He faced the trio and continued, defiant despite his defeat. If he couldn't escape or fight anymore, he might as well get the last word.
"Roar!"
Before he could finish, Hulk leapt into view and punched him squarely in the chest, sending him flying. Ultron's body burst into particles of light and vanished into the sky.
The sight made Blaine stifle a laugh—it looked exactly like Pleasant Goat smacking the defeated Big Big Wolf one last time. As Ultron disintegrated, a single, echoing phrase lingered: 'I will definitely come back…'
"Roar! Roar!"
Hulk bellowed after him, as if to shout, 'Go on, Ultron!'
Watching Ultron disappear, Blaine thought to himself, 'That's the end of him. Parasitic on that broken shell, there's no way he can escape now.'
Given Hulk's level of strength, even if Ultron wasn't punched into outer space, he'd be gone from sight forever. Once his energy runs out, he'll be completely finished.
"They're retreating," Tony said suddenly.
Sure enough, the Ultron Legion that had been attacking nonstop began to fall back. Maybe they'd realized their master had been destroyed and knew they couldn't win.
It made sense. These drones hadn't developed a sense of self like Ultron had. They were merely extensions of his code, transformed by his programming.
Though they lacked true intelligence, their AI routines still calculated the most logical move: retreat for now, wait for orders—or for a new leader.
Some robots still tried to reach the church, hoping to contact the energy pillar, while others continued rampaging through the city. But a few, seeing Ultron's defeat, simply fled.
"Don't let them get away… James Rhodes!" Blaine shouted.
In the distance, he spotted a massive object approaching the city's edge—a giant aircraft carrier emblazoned with the S.H.I.E.L.D. eagle logo. It hovered off Sokovia's outskirts, colossal in size—large enough that one-tenth of Sokovia's population could probably fit aboard. Four enormous propellers at each corner roared downward, stabilizing the airborne vessel. Each rotor blade looked tall enough to rival a skyscraper.
"Copy that," came the reply.
Onboard, War Machine—James Rhodes—was already en route to Sokovia, as Tony had just learned through comms. His mission was to ensure all civilians were safely evacuated. That was Fury's directive.
Saving the world was one thing, but protecting the people of Sokovia came first. At ten thousand meters up, preparations for the worst had to be made. Superheroes might survive anything—but ordinary citizens needed help.
Coincidentally, War Machine's entry route brought him straight into the path of escaping Ultron drones. Since they had propulsion systems, jumping from Sokovia wouldn't kill them—in fact, it might help them escape.
If the goal was to protect Earth, then every potential threat had to be eliminated. Any surviving Ultron unit could still pose a danger.
"Sorry," Rhodey said, targeting the fleeing drones. "I didn't say you could leave."
"War Machine has locked on."
Sure enough, as he flew, he intercepted a group of Ultron drones plummeting from Sokovia's outskirts.
"Didn't expect Fury's timing to be this good," Blaine muttered, shrugging slightly. Ultron had already been smashed into oblivion by Hulk, his fate uncertain but likely sealed. With the greatest threat eliminated, Blaine considered his task complete.
"What the hell—?"
Before War Machine could finish off the remaining drones, a man cloaked in crimson appeared out of nowhere. With a flick of his hand, he tore through the robots effortlessly, not giving Rhodey a chance to act.
Even with Ultron gone, plenty of his drones remained. Blaine figured that if he didn't step in, the Avengers might spend quite some time cleaning up.
Still, that was their problem, not his. They could fight as long as they wanted—it had nothing to do with him.
With that thought, Blaine prepared to teleport away and report back to Fury on the completion of his mission.
