Adam had just finished saying, "But I won't let her tear us apart," when a voice interrupted, cheerful and completely unaware of the tension in the air.
"Okay, okay—before anyone cries or throws me off the terrace, I brought a peace offering!"
Adam and his girlfriend both turned.
Fiona was there. Dressed like she'd stepped off a drama series set in Mykonos. Flowy skirt, wind conveniently catching her scarf, holding a fancy plate of strawberries like it was a royal decree.
Adam groaned. "Fiona…"
His girlfriend immediately crossed her arms. "You."
Fiona lifted the plate. "Me—with fruit."
His girlfriend gave her a look that could curdle milk. "You have five seconds."
Fiona carefully placed the strawberries on the railing and held up her hands. "Look. I came here to say I'm sorry. Truly. Deeply. Chaotically. But sincerely."
Adam whispered, "Now is really not the time—"
"No, it is exactly the time," Fiona said, stepping closer like she was entering a soap opera. "Because if I wait, it'll feel rehearsed, and this—" she gestured to her whole dramatic self, "—is me, unfiltered. Apologizing. With berries."
His girlfriend raised an eyebrow. "You think fruit fixes everything?"
"No," Fiona said seriously. "But it's a start."
She took a breath and turned fully to the girlfriend.
"I'm sorry for making you feel like the outsider yesterday. You walked into a rom-com you didn't sign up for, and I was out here playing the main character like it was Fiona in Greece: A Chaos Story. That wasn't fair."
The girlfriend didn't speak, still eyeing her cautiously.
"I swear, there's nothing romantic between me and Adam. I mean, look at him." She waved a hand dramatically. "He folds his socks by color. He listens to sad music when it rains. He once cried over a cheese commercial."
Adam blinked. "It was emotional cheese."
Fiona ignored him. "I joke with him like that because we're best friends. And yeah, I might've milked the drama a bit yesterday to mess with the two broody idiots—" she pointed to where Dominic and Damien were probably still sulking behind a plant—"but I crossed a line. And I get it."
The girlfriend narrowed her eyes. "So the strawberry feeding wasn't, like… a moment?"
Fiona gasped. "Please. I was chewing like a gremlin. I'm fairly sure I dribbled juice on my chin. It was not hot."
Adam added quickly, "It really wasn't."
"Thanks, babe," Fiona shot back, then turned to the girlfriend again. "But because that image clearly traumatized you… I hereby return the Strawberry Rights."
She reached for a strawberry, plucked it from the plate, and handed it to Adam like it was a sacred object.
"Feed her," she ordered.
Adam blinked. "Are we seriously doing this again?"
"Do it for peace," Fiona whispered dramatically. "For closure. For content."
His girlfriend rolled her eyes but leaned in slightly, curiosity piqued.
Adam sighed and held up the strawberry. "Here. I promise I'll only feed you fruit from now on."
His girlfriend took a delicate bite, chewing slowly. "Okay. That's better. Slightly."
Fiona clapped once, pleased. "See? Look at that. Reconciliation through vitamin C."
She looked between them, her tone softening. "You two make a great pair. Don't let my tornado energy mess with that."
The girlfriend finally smiled—just a little. "You're still banned from dramatic declarations in public."
"Fair."
"And feeding him anything sweet."
"Reasonable."
"Also, don't show up unannounced with a fruit platter again."
Fiona tilted her head. "Can it be a pastry platter next time?"
"No."
"Okay, that's gonna be hard, but I'll respect it."
There was a moment of calm.
Then, from across the terrace, Damien called out, "Is this some weird food ritual, or can we leave now?"
Fiona turned her head slowly. "You're just mad you didn't get a strawberry, Damien."
Dominic shouted, "WHERE'S MINE?!"
Adam sighed. "I hate my life."
His girlfriend smirked. "I'm starting to enjoy it."
Fiona raised her glass. "To chaos, closure, and strawberries."
And just like that, the rooftop drama ended—not with shouting, but with laughter, sweet fruit, and a shared realization that no vacation is ever normal when Fiona's involved.
