Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Successful Awakening

"What is this, Sorata?"

At some point, Shiina Mashiro had finished the third illustration in her hand and leaned over to look at the Unit-01 in Sorata's hand, a curious look in her clear, bright eyes.

Because she was too close, the breath from Shiina Mashiro's small nose touched Sorata's cheek, warm with a faint fragrance.

"One of the manga characters I'm planning to draw," Sorata stopped writing with satisfaction.

"Manga." Shiina Mashiro turned her face, her eyes looking at Sorata curiously. "Sorata is going to draw manga?"

A faint smile appeared on Sorata's face. "Wasn't my ambition to be a novelist and a manga artist?"

"By the way, Mashiro, after you finish the illustrations, why don't you just draw 'Toradora!' as a manga?"

Sorata suddenly thought. "Your current weakness is in character construction and thin stories. If you can draw this youth campus romance novel as a manga, it should be very helpful for you in this regard."

Shiina Mashiro was stunned, a rare hint of hesitation in her tone. "Can I?"

"Of course, you can," Sorata affirmed.

"Okay," Shiina Mashiro nodded.

The matter was decided so simply. Perhaps neither of them noticed the trust and understanding for each other conveyed in their simple two-sentence conversation.

As for copyright and other matters, Sorata was the original author in this world. Although he had signed with Dengeki Bunko, with Shiina Mashiro's strength, Sorata was confident he could persuade Kamimura Yuriko.

Besides, the first volume hadn't even been published yet. Although the other party attached great importance to it, they couldn't imagine how high the quality of "Toradora!" would be in the later stages.

After all, the early stages of "Toradora!" were similar to ordinary slightly popular light novels. The main exciting plot began in the middle, with the emotional changes between Takasu Ryuuji and the other four as they entangled in liking and being liked.

"Ah... Junior's awake."

In the early morning, accompanied by Kamiigusa Misaki's energetic shout, Kamiigusa Misaki, wearing a T-shirt and shorts and holding a rope in her hand, descended from the sky and jumped in through Sorata's open window.

She rolled on the ground upon landing to dissipate the inertia and stood up with a perfect landing.

"Eh, little Mashiro, so you slept here with Junior? No wonder I didn't see you when I went to wake you up."

On the bed, Sorata slept on the outer side, and Shiina Mashiro was also sleeping on her side facing Sorata.

Last night, because Sorata told her to try to draw "Toradora!" as a manga after finishing the illustrations, Shiina Mashiro, feeling the challenge and the goal, immediately became full of energy and kept asking Sorata various details until very late.

Sorata, whose just-recovered soul had become weak and tired again due to the use of his true spirit power, didn't even know when he had fallen asleep.

"Morning, Senpai. What's this again today? A beautiful girl descending from the sky?" Opening his eyes, Sorata yawned lazily.

He was already used to Kamiigusa Misaki suddenly barging in like this.

Meow...

However, on the computer desk, Hikari, who had been woken up, expressed her dissatisfaction with Kamiigusa Misaki.

"Mashiro, wake up." Sitting up, Sorata placed his hand on Shiina Mashiro's exposed shoulder and gently shook her.

When Sorata chased Kamiigusa Misaki out and walked out of the room with Shiina Mashiro, Mitaka Jin, who was already eating breakfast in the living room, adjusted his glasses and gave him a thumbs up.

Sengoku Chihiro, who was drinking again, just glanced up and then muttered "damn youth" under her breath.

"Think whatever you want." Sorata shook his head indifferently and pulled the sleepy-eyed Shiina Mashiro upstairs to change clothes.

During their close interactions over this period, Sorata had already regarded the very dependent Shiina Mashiro as his personal possession and had made taking care of her like a pet a habit.

So, when Shiina Mashiro changed clothes in front of him, Sorata admired her with open and honest eyes, watching as the girl's already shapely delicate body was slowly covered by her uniform.

"Sorata, I'll do it."

After rinsing her mouth and washing her face, and with her hair neatly combed, just as Sorata was about to throw her changed clothes into the washing machine, Shiina Mashiro eagerly took her panties and other personal clothing from Sorata's hands.

"Okay."

Sorata had no objections to this, having taught Shiina Mashiro many times before.

However, just as Shiina Mashiro was about to pour an entire bottle of laundry detergent in, Sorata quickly called out to stop her. "Stop... just a little laundry detergent is enough."

"Sorata is so troublesome."

"You have the nerve to say that? How many times have I taught you before?"

"Really?"

Snap!

Ah...

Shiina Mashiro covered her forehead, which had been flicked, her small face looking aggrieved.

"Alright, after pouring in the laundry detergent, just press this automatic wash button. It will be almost finished by the time we come up after breakfast."

In the Sakura Dormitory, everyone washes their own clothes. There are bathrooms and washing machines on both the first and second floors, separated for men and women, although it seemed that Mitaka Jin's clothes were all washed by Kamiigusa Misaki.

Going to school today was lively. Under Sorata's care during this period, Shiina Mashiro hadn't been delayed much and went with Kamiigusa Misaki and Mitaka Jin.

On the way, the ever-energetic Kamiigusa Misaki, like an alien, ran around or chatted endlessly with Shiina Mashiro, who surprisingly could keep up.

"With Shiina here, and your first novel about to be published, Kanda, you won't be thinking of moving out of the Sakura Dormitory anymore, right?" Walking alongside Sorata, Mitaka Jin looked at Kamiigusa Misaki's back in front and smiled.

"Of course, living in the Sakura Dormitory is much more interesting than the school dorms," Sorata said with a faint smile.

Adjusting his glasses, Mitaka Jin nodded. "I used to worry that you wouldn't be able to handle the pressure from Misaki, Ryuunosuke, and little Shiina, and would end up feeling very uncomfortable. It seems my judgment was off."

"Thank you for your concern, Senpai. Normally speaking, your worries would be very correct, but..." Sorata didn't say what "but" was, just smiled at Mitaka Jin, who was looking at him with an inquisitive gaze.

When they stepped into the school to change their shoes, Sorata ran into Rias and Akeno. Unexpectedly meeting them, Sorata nodded to them.

"Good morning, you two."

Her black hair, reaching past her heels, was tied into a ponytail with two ribbons. Her hands folded in front of her abdomen, Akeno, with an elegant demeanor like a Yamato Nadeshiko, bowed slightly with a smile.

"Good morning, Kanda-kun, Shiina-san."

After a brief greeting, Sorata took Shiina Mashiro and sent her to the art studio first.

"Buchou, the light's aura fluctuations have disappeared," Akeno said suddenly, smiling as she watched Sorata's and Shiina's backs disappear.

"You sensed it too?"

Rias said in a voice only they could hear, "He should have successfully awakened."

"But even you and I can't sense any energy fluctuations from him. It seems either his awakened ability is very strong, or it's too weak to be worth mentioning."

"My intuition tells me it's the former."

Rias suppressed the desire from her soul and said very solemnly, "Find a time to make real contact and see if we can take him as a member of our peerage."

"Okay." Knowing Rias's intuition was comparable to precognition, Akeno's expression also turned serious.

Just a note here, Rias and Akeno are second-year students.
