Chapter 11 - 11. Weapon

Nuvem: Alright this isn't gonna do... We need to get you a weapon of your own.

Camellia: Wha- But I can clearly just make ones out of ice right? You've seen me fight you with those during our sparing matches.

Nuvem: Yes, and every single time I've broken them with ease... *sigh this just is not going to make do. What are you going to do if that was the killing blow and the weapon you're blocking with snaps like a twig? Someone I know uses the same technique but... You're just far too weak and bad at concentrating mana right now. We are gonna need to get you a weapon forged in Undrebellum.

Camellia: Undre what now? We leavin already?! I just got used to life here!

Nuvem: Hey I'd say a week is long enough. Besides you can't be a freeloader forever. That lingering guilty conscience has started to wane, I cannot keep cover for you much longer, especially from the capital. If anyone of the numerals visit here you'd best be prayin you get out in one piece.

Camellia: Welp what's the plan then? As much as it sucks, I can't stay here forever. This world will end in 2 years time after all.

Nuvem: exactly, its your job to make sure that doesn't happen. We already have the information that this is all a game to the divine beings above but... We still have a lot of unanswered questions about the state of everything. And so, I thunk up a plan to get started. Go on brief them Currus.

Currus: g'dam ite, always the shitey work pushed on me eh?

He says whilst giving Nuvem a side eye

Currus: alright, like what boss said we gotta get ya a weapon that'll amplify your magic to temporarily act as a crutch for your still developing magic proficiency. And to do that we gotta get you a customly crafted weapon in Undrebellum, the smithy central of Hortus. Thing is though there a nasty predicament.

Nuvem: haaah... Yes one of the twelve numerals will be joining us, and you are exactly right... We haven't briefed them about our cooperation so... You get your brains blown out in seconds at that level. Especially since this is Vulcan we're talking about.

Camellia: Vulcan? Sounds like a name for a rather, prickly personality.

Nuvem: Prickly would be an understatement thats for sure. He's someone that has a short fuse and gets into trouble quite often due to jumping to conclusions. It'd be our best bet for you to just hide who you are for now.

Camellia: Didn't you know exactly what I was from the moment we talked though?

Nuvem: well pretty much any of the numerals would though, I mean only a white garment and a clueless background on the world? Couldn't have been anymore obvious.

-I uh... were the only words I could reply, he did have a point I'm afraid so...

Nuvem: well then this concludes our briefing, do savour the remaining time you have here, because after Undrebellum we are heading straight to a commission I received from the capital themselves.

Camellia: seems pretty important, should I really be handling cases like these?

Nuvem: it is exactly because it's important that you need to come with, to show to the capital that you have a purpose and that you mean well.

Camellia: Makes enough sense, what's it about then? Just curious y'know.

Currus: Its the theocracy. There's been rumors that they've been the ones behind the recent disappearances round the outskirts of Intima. Quite a creepy bunch that lot. Its best we eradicate them as soon as possible. They are a blight to this world...

Nuvem: I agree... They're a long running syndicate the capital just seems to be unable to get rid of. They've been active even when I was still a little kid.

Camellia: That's crazy how's a group like that able to exist when twelve of you guys exist?

Nuvem: I haven't the faintest clue either... Despite there being 5 generations of numerals, none of them seemed to be aware of the theocracy back then. Anyways that's enough talking for today. I have some more errands to do.

Camellia: alrighty then guess I'll train with sir Lucas for awhile.

Nuvem: I grant the chief butler permission to kick his arse. Dont go easy on this bum alright?

Lucas: yes sire, I shall not disappoint.

Nuvem let out a little chuckle and proceeded to leave the mansion's garden.

Lucas: well then sire shall we get to it?

Camellia: Here I come! Frost bow!

Meanwhile

Currus: that was quite a mouthful eh boss?

Nuvem: yep, but now for the main agenda of today...

Currus: heh goodluck with that, I'll stay in spirit form for now so don't worry about me bein a bother.

I let out a short sigh as I made my way to the pub where I was to meet with someone who.. . Let's just say is rather, unsavory to deal with.

Ayo! Long time no see Nuves!! Haha!

The black haired man with the thick leather vest and gloves waved noisily to me.

Nuvem: its Nuvem... and yes... quite nice to see you too vulcan...

Vulcan: kah! Stop with all this stuckup shit, cantcha speak normal?

Nuvem: yes, yes now get to the point, why're you joining us tomorrow. Bored of Chromius already? Did the burning sun get too much for ya?

Vulcan: HAH you jest, I'm literally immune to heat idiot, no. Its cuz I got a comm that the bastard that got Phobos headed ere.

Nuvem: what...?! You're tellin me that another of the seven was spotted?

Vulcan: exactly... And this time I'll finish the job for him...

He looked at me, stern with his intimidating sharp yellow eyes that showed fire in them.

Nuvem:... very well then, we might even get clues those guys of the theocracy. Its a win for both of us.

Vulcan: They're at the move again huh? Slimy bastards. Well then twas a good talk eh? Lets meet again tomorrow, gotta check in to the inn first.

I waved goodbye as he disappeared into the sea of people in the distance.

Seems like a lots going to happen eh Currus...
