Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: High Alert

Anora woke to see the world shaking.

She hastily got up, ran through her necessities before going outside to see what was happening. She grabbed some of her equipment and went outside.

The camp erupted in chaos, everyone was trying to find out what was happening.

She went up to one of the soldiers, "What's happening?"

The soldier looked at her with confusion. He leaned in closer and tapped his ear.

"What?"

"What's happening?"

"A bomb went off underground"

She managed to finally stop shaking as the vibrations stopped. "How much long ago?"

He looked at her like she was crazy. "You didn't hear it go off? It was loud as hell!"

"Not really" She was a heavy sleeper, "Where are the others?"

He saw someone waving his hand at him, "Like I'd know, just look around!" He shouted out before going off to assist them.

Anora turned and looked at the scene, amidst the frantic scene was someone walking slowly, like a pebble slowly drifting in a flowing river.

Arm

She looked ahead of him, he was slowly following Ikra who rushed into the shack.

Seeing this, she sprinted right at him.

"You didn't bother to stop him?" Anora shouted at Arm as she passed by him.

"He wasn't the first to go inside you know?" He said before she went out of earshot.

She was curious about what he meant, but it wasn't the time to stop and listen.

"Ikra!"

She tried shouting his name so he would stop, but her voice drowned itself in the mass confusion.

Anora watched as Ikra went inside the shack, closing the door behind him.

BANG

She rammed the door open, she looked around to see where Ikra went.

The only place he could've gone was down the large hole. She looked down to see that it descended downwards.

A spiral staircase was made along the walls, broken and worn down from time.

She touched the railing. It felt dry and brittle, a layer of dust covered it.

Instinctively, she shook her hand. She reached down her pocket and sparked her lighter alive.

Anora put it close to the railing to get a better look. The wood was infested with termites.

Yikes

She looked down again, reminding herself of the long drop down before carefully descending down.
