Chapter 26 - Its real... Too real

But then another question rose in her mind…

Why?

How is he here?

Is this his house?

Does he remember me?

Of course not.

She smiled faintly to herself, a bitter one.

No one remembers me. No one ever does.

So why would he?

She's not special. Just another face in the crowd.

Just another girl who happened to be at the right place, at the right time.

Or maybe the wrong place… because now she has to face him. Every single day.

The man she liked from afar for years.

The man who unknowingly saved her more times than he'd ever know.

As the man reached her, her heart screamed to speak—

To say something.

But all that came out of her mouth was a quiet, "Hello."

Right… that's it.

He doesn't remember her.

He shouldn't.

She didn't want him to.

Because if he remembered her… he'd remember a broken girl on a frozen night.

A mess. A mistake. A burden.

Then suddenly, the manager spoke.

"We were looking for you."

Her heart skipped a beat.

The man instantly shot a look at the manager—

One that said, Why would you say that?

Realizing his slip, the manager chuckled awkwardly and quickly corrected himself.

"I mean… we were looking for a secretary. For him."

He pointed to the man standing beside him.

For him...?

Her breath caught.

I have to be a secretary… for him?

Out of all the companies…

Out of all the positions…

Why this?

Why now?

She stared at him quietly.

He didn't say a word.

Just looked at her like he was trying to read every inch of her face.

And she stood there, quietly screaming inside…

I liked you for years… but I was okay watching you from a distance.

I never wanted to be close enough to ruin anything.

Not your life… not mine.

But now… it's real.

Too real.
