Lilian stood there, stunned, after Lumos closed the door. She tried to open it, banging on it with her fist, but no one answered.
Frustrated, she turned to the book Lumos had given her.
<22 Ways to Make Your Partner Feel Xxxxx: A Guide for Better Xxxx>
That was the title written on the cover.
"WHAT THE HELL!"
Lilian shouted, throwing the book at the wall in anger.
"That perverted old man!"
Lumos was indeed an old man, but his appearance hadn't changed in the last thirty years thanks to a prank spell he cast on himself that ended up being irreversible.
After a moment to calm herself down, Lilian picked up the book again. Curiosity got the better of her. She opened it to see what it actually contained.
Her eyes widened in shock. Without hesitation, she hurried to her room, locked the door, and sat down at her table. She opened the book and started reading.
What she found inside was a different version of the world's origin story. It also revealed the truth about how the demons were erased from existence.
Long ago, two supreme beings were born from light and darkness. The one born from light was Leticia, and the one from darkness was Archon. The two of them formed a bond, and from their united power, humans and demons were created.
Humans inherited Leticia's abilities, it was holy powers, aura, and magic.
Demons inherited Archon's destructive abilities, a power that could destroy anything, whether it be things, places, animals, or humans.
For a time, the two races lived together. But humans eventually began to fear the demons' power. As human nature tends to do, they detested what was unfamiliar or different from them. They eliminated what frightened them. The same held true for how they treated demons.
In time, the first king cooperated with a jealous pope who envied the Saint's power. Together, they plotted to attack the demons. They started with a small village of low-ranking demons who welcomed them without suspicion. But soon, the humans began to kill them, using sheer force and numbers. They slaughtered everyone , the children, the women, and the old.
The demon king, enraged by this, vowed revenge on the human kingdom and launched an attack of his own.
Humans were meant to create, while demons were meant to destroy. It was a balance that kept the world in order. But with war and chaos erupting, it became clear that destruction came far easier than creation. The demons' power was too much for humans to handle. The foolish king and pope didn't know what trouble they brought. Human corpses covered the land.
The first Saint, appointed by Leticia to watch over the world as its ruler, refused the position of monarch. Instead, she chose to protect the people and maintain peace among humans. But when she saw the humans suffering from the demons , she misunderstood, believing the demon king had attacked humans first. In her anger, she joined the battle.
A great war broke out. The Saint fought mercilessly against anyone who stood in her way. She did whatever it took to reach the demon lord and slay him. In the process, she killed every demon in her path and eventually the demon king himself.
People praised the Saint for saving them, unaware it was their own kind who had nearly brought about their extinction. But the first Saint died young, not long after her battle with the demon king. With her gone, the pope seized complete authority. He burned everything related to Archon and the demons, twisting their story into something vile to cover up his own sins. He strengthened the church's hold over the land and made it even more powerful using the saints heroism .
That was the true tragedy of the world...
Archon and Leticia wept at the loss of their other children. Archon, who loved them dearly, used the last of his power to save their souls, placing them in a cycle of reincarnation. Doing so cast him into an eternal slumber.
From then on, demon souls would occasionally be reborn into human bodies.
The cries of all the demons the Saint had killed, along with the soul of the demon lord, gathered into a dark energy stronger than any magic possessed by demons before. From that, a curse was born. It would cling to the most precious thing born from a Saint's flesh, it was their child.
Leticia, determined to prevent the return of the vengeful demon king who sought justice for his fallen kin and will surely wipe humans , sent an oracle to the second Saint ever born.
"To never lay a hand on the Saintess I have appointed."
Leticia and Archon could no longer descend into the physical world they created. If they did, the balance would collapse and the world would die. Even sending a brief oracle came at a terrible cost, one that shook the very fabric of the world. That was the first and last oracle ever made.
But as soon as humans noticed the return of demon powers, they reacted the same way as before. They turned cold and fearful, and once again, sought to eliminate them.
And so the cycle continued.
