RAIN POV
I don't remember falling. One moment the ground was under my feet, the next it opened like a mouth and a hand grabbed my leg and pulled. After that… nothing.
When I woke, everything was black. No light. No sky. Just a heavy silence that pressed against my ears. I did not know how long I had been out. I did not know where I was.
My arms were weak. My chest felt hollow. A cold silver chain wrapped my wrists to a post in the dark. Every time I pulled, the chain burned my skin like it was made of fire and ice at once.
"Where am I?" I croaked. My voice came out small and ragged. "Is anyone here?"
Starfire — my wolf — stirred like a sleeping thing. We are trapped underground, she said in my mind. I can't feel the stars. I can't feel my power.
She was right. My hands were empty of light. My whole body felt used up, like someone had poured all my fire out and left me with a cold shell.
