Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Phoenix Incarnation

In truth, Haierbo had an unknown side to him. Unlike Voldemort, he created only one Horcrux—not for the sake of immortality, but for safety.

Even the method for restoring one's soul, recorded in The Secrets of Advanced Dark Magic, was left behind by Haierbo. It required true repentance—one had to genuinely feel remorse for their actions.

After realizing that creating a Horcrux had made his soul unstable and incomplete, Haierbo endured unimaginable agony to regain his integrity. Most of his inventions focused on life-preserving magic, though ironically, he himself regarded these magics as forbidden. Thus, very few ever knew about these methods of survival.

Instead, Haierbo deliberately spread the image of a dark sorcerer and popularized some of the malicious curses he had created.

Alexander Smith flipped through the materials in his hands and pressed his Jingming acupuncture point. In search of ancient magic suitable for himself, Alexander had already spent nearly half the day buried in the library.

Magic books—or rather, magical knowledge itself—often contained traces of magic, much like the Invisible Book of Invisibility. If a book about invisibility could literally become invisible, then what dangers might lie hidden in books detailing far more terrifying spells?

Alexander had intended to study ancient magic from the start, mainly due to the special nature of his own magic. In the Smith family tree, his magic was recorded as "Ouroboros"—magic with incredible regenerative power and almost limitless reserves.

However, after locating the relevant books, Alexander discovered they came with extremely high demands. Some spells could summon meteor showers or firestorms, but required chanting without pause for almost an entire day.

Each syllable was difficult to pronounce, and some words were downright impossible for a human tongue. Worse, casting such spells required self-hypnosis: believing oneself to be a god passing judgment on sinners—an emotion that had to be sustained throughout the casting. It was a feat far beyond what ordinary wizards—or even humans—could manage.

Some books wouldn't even open for him. Ancient wizards and magical creatures depicted on their covers rejected him outright, deeming him too young. Even so, Alexander believed these were the kinds of spells he could one day wield.

Books without protective measures, meanwhile, were deemed by Smith family ancestors as "harmless," meaning even after reading them, a young wizard wouldn't be able to use the magic inside.

After much filtering, Alexander finally found a book teaching an ancient spell called Phoenix Incarnation.

The author? None other than Haierbo himself. He had created this magic to survive death.

The spell required the caster to sing a chant resembling a phoenix's song—a poem glorifying the phoenix from every angle, describing its noble character and abilities in vivid detail.

Fortunately, the chant wasn't too long, lasting about three minutes.

Before casting, the user needed to light flames around themselves—specifically using phoenix feathers as kindling. While chanting in a drowsy, almost hypnotic state, the user would become enveloped by the flames and ultimately transform into a phoenix made of fire.

As long as the user's body remained intact, didn't starve to death, and retained sufficient magic, the flame-formed phoenix would endure. It could not be extinguished or easily sealed, moving like a true phoenix.

However, the first transformation was critical. If the user woke due to injury, magic exhaustion, or hunger, the phoenix form would collapse.

With practice, though, it would become easier. Eventually, one could transform using only imagined flames. And by using a wand with a phoenix feather core, casting the spell became even simpler: the wand could double as both igniter and amplifier.

Alexander chose this magic mainly for its teleportation and flight abilities.

As someone with a natural gift for magic, he only needed to successfully transform once to permanently acquire a phoenix's flying and teleportation skills.

He considered the phoenix's legendary Nirvana (rebirth) ability too, though he wasn't sure if it could be "cheated" into existence with this spell.

What mattered most was that phoenix teleportation was farther and more stable than wizard Apparition. Plus, Hogwarts' anti-Apparition enchantments only blocked human wizards—not magical creatures like house-elves or phoenixes.

This wasn't a loophole. House-elves were bound by magical contracts, unable to attack wizards, and phoenixes were beings of pure goodness. Thus, both were considered exceptions.

If Alexander succeeded, he would gain greater freedom—and another layer of identity separate from the limitations of ordinary wizards.

Thinking about visiting Hogwarts more freely, and a certain someone (he quickly corrected himself, coughing awkwardly), Alexander buried himself deeper into training. He took notes feverishly, practiced his voice, and referenced the Magical Pronunciation Table to master obscure phonemes.

Tonight, under the faint silver glow of the moon, within a majestic castle, four silver stoves gleamed, each burning fiery red phoenix feathers.

In the center sat a young man, carved from jade and pink, quietly chanting in bird-like syllables.

"This is the third try. If it doesn't work this time, I'll run out of feathers," Alexander muttered, wiping the sweat from his brow. Then, focusing all his will, he pictured a majestic phoenix in his mind and resumed chanting.

Three minutes later, a gust of wind—coming from nowhere—roared through the chamber. The flames didn't die; instead, they burned more fiercely.

The unburned feathers melted into ruby-red liquid, swirling upward toward Alexander's head, forming a fiery phoenix crown.

A magnetic pull yanked at his consciousness.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The flames danced wildly—and the phoenix opened its eyes.

A marvelous instinct filled Alexander's heart. Without hesitation, he spread his "wings" and soared.

Pure, ecstatic joy flooded him—flying at last, conquering the human forbidden zone of the sky!

Accompanied by a soaring phoenix cry, Alexander glimpsed his own body for the first time—black-haired, fair-skinned, sitting calmly with closed eyes.

Magic surged through his current "body" as he plunged back into himself.

On his chest, a phoenix tattoo blossomed into existence. New information flooded his system:

The first success granted him 50% proficiency instantly! Using four furnaces really had made a difference. Alexander marveled; no wonder ancient magic was considered beyond human limits.

Opening the details of Phoenix Incarnation, he found:

Flight Lv.1 (12%)

Teleportation Lv.1 (2%)

Nirvana Lv.1 (0.1%)

Flight, teleportation, rebirth—all included within Phoenix Incarnation!

"I've found the key to immortality! Hahahahaha!" Alexander laughed wildly.

With a whoosh of spontaneous flame, he teleported across his family's orchard. There was no noise, no strong wind—only pure ease and exhilaration.

Even without full transformation, he could now use his flight and teleportation skills directly. Complex rituals and spells were mere tools—he had unlocked true power.

"Immortality... soaring across the skies... this power—I'm thrilled! Hahahaha!"

Alexander grinned wildly. "Split Shot!" he shouted, and his magic crackled with newfound strength.

Finally, he was free—no longer shackled, but standing at the true starting line of a real wizard.

From tonight onward, flying and teleportation would be added to his daily training, steadily increasing his mastery of Phoenix Incarnation.
