Chapter 214 – The Confrontation at the Black Lake Pier

On the way to Hogwarts Castle, Ron and Draco's conversation barely registered with Alexander. His mind was buzzing—he was finally leaving the Dursleys.

He was going to live with his father's best friend, Sirius Black… and the thought made his stomach twist. How would the Dursleys react when he told them he was leaving to live with his godfather?

He had imagined this moment countless times, yet now it felt different. Was it because Dudley had changed? Or because Dudley had become a wizard himself? He even wondered how the Dursleys were treating the new "baby Dada," their little magical child.

He remembered waking each morning, staring up at the bottom of the stairs. One or two spiders always hung there. Back then, he didn't know who he really was, hadn't yet understood why his parents had died, and was baffled by the strange things that constantly happened around him. And those dreams… chaotic, green flashes, leaving him terrified.

A thought struck him: Aunt Petunia actually knew Professor Snape—even claimed he had grown up with his mother! Could it be that his father and Snape had been friends too, and only parted ways because of his mother's death?

Alexander's stomach churned again. A troubling suspicion hit him: Snape might have been a spy sent by Dumbledore to join the Death Eaters. Could that explain why Snape always seemed entangled with Slytherin's Death Eater reservists, even when they wronged his mother's friends?

Even though Sirius said Snape was a friend, could it be that Snape and his mother had been romantically involved before, and that his father had broken them apart? When Snape ended things because of Dumbledore's mission, did his father then take advantage of the situation to become involved with his mother?

Alexander thought about Voldemort. He was a wizard who cared little for the so-called pure-blood ideology. And Professor Snape, now head of Slytherin, was undeniably brilliant. If his mother had been with Snape, would she have survived? Perhaps that explained Snape's initial harshness toward him—seeing his green eyes reminded him of her, and his skill with Potions mirrored hers.

Near the Black Lake Pier, Alexander voiced his worries.

"I feel like I'm overthinking this, Ron. Why would Dumbledore let a student do these dangerous things?"

Ron shook his head firmly. "Alexander, you worry too much. Dumbledore wouldn't force anyone into danger."

"Isn't that what I am? Dumbledore arranged for me to stop Voldemort, but he didn't force me!" Alexander explained. "He respects choice. Even if I don't go to the Fourth Floor in the end, he'll never force it. And Snape… he became an undercover Death Eater for justice. More likely, for my mother's sake. She was a Muggle, and he wanted to protect her memory."

Ron frowned. "Alexander, you overestimate Dumbledore, just like with Quirrell or Peter Pettigrew."

"I don't think it's mere respect. Dumbledore values justice. Free will… he lets you believe it's your choice. Like the time on the Forbidden Forest rooftop—we were caught because we forgot the invisibility cloak, yet he clearly knew Voldemort was there. Alexander, your forehead hurt so badly you could barely stand. That was dangerous!" Draco's tone was sharp, revealing his long-standing wariness of the headmaster.

Alexander smiled faintly. "Yes, my forehead… that pain was because Dumbledore was being kind. When I faced Voldemort in the Forest, the pain stabilized my power. Later, I even used it to fuel my Disillusionment Charm."

Ron thought carefully. He had always trusted Dumbledore's justice, but now Alexander's reasoning clarified things.

"Yes! Dumbledore allowed Quirrell to remain as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor to awaken and cultivate my power." Alexander's voice rang with certainty. "I was ordinary at first, but Peeves didn't bother me, and that allowed my potential to bloom. In that class, when the mysterious man was active, my power awakened fully. I even defeated Quirrell, who was possessed!"

Draco nodded. "That makes sense. Alexander, can you still use that power freely?"

Alexander raised his wand. "I'll try."

A radiant light burst from his wand, forming a magnificent, sacred creature. Unlike a normal phoenix, it shimmered with rainbow-colored mist and a golden sheen. Its beauty and vitality were almost otherworldly, emanating a high-pitched, holy hum.

From above, a crimson bird descended, as large as a swan, with a golden tail glimmering like a peacock's feathers and claws that shone like sunlight.

The Black Lake Pier had never witnessed such a breathtaking spectacle before.
