Chapter 105 - Trent Died Who Cares

Raven and Alara walked slowly over the shattered glass and smeared blood of the city street, their eyes locked on Trent's mangled, bullet-riddled body as he laid twitching on the pavement. His breathing came in short gasps, the ragged noise echoing in an otherwise now silent street. Alara lowered her head. As her eyes showed cold amusement while she glanced at Raven. "Oh… it looks like he's going to bleed to death, Raven. Should we help him?" she asked, with a mocking tone of voice.

Raven's lips curled into a deliberate smile. She turned her green eyes towards Alara, her expression tender. "Don't worry, Alara. We'll get the information we need from him before he dies. And if he doesn't want to talk…" She let her words trail off, her voice lowering to a whisper. "We'll just poison him and make his death even more memorable."

Trent's head jerked up, his blood-smeared lips curling into a snarl as he tried to form words. "You bitc—" he started saying, his voice trembling. But before he could finish, Alara's hand moved forward. As her metal bat struck him lightly across the jaw, a sickening crack followed the hit as several of his teeth flew out and solid across the bloody pavement. Like stones skipping across water. His jaw was dislocated with a simple hit, now hanging awkwardly on his face, but still barely functional enough for him to talk.

Alara crouched down, leaning in so close that Trent could see the madness in her icy blue eyes. Her voice was sweet as each word felt like it was laced with venom. "Don't you dare call Raven a bitch in my presence," she whispered, her lips curling upwards into a mad smile. "Or I'll make sure your death is so painful you'll beg to die for then lifetimes."

Raven watched the scene unfold, her eyes softening with warmth as she heard Alara's words. "Alara… you look so beautiful right now," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. There was a strange glow in her eyes, a mixture of pride and a kind of terrible affection that only the clinically insane could hope to understand.

Turning her attention back to Trent, Raven let her expression harden turning far more predatory. She stepped closer to Trent, her boots stopping inches from his face. "Why are you after us? Answer honestly, and I might let you die a less painful death." she said.

Trent's body trembled violently, his remaining teeth trembling as he tried to form words with his ruined jaw. Blood dribbled from his lips as he said "We… we were sent after you… Raven Salvatore… because Epsilon base has put out a massive bounty on you… they offered food, supplies… more than anyone other base. There is… there is a rumor going around that you have knowledge… of advanced technology that can turn the tide against the zombies. Epsilon base is paying the most for your capture, but… but other bases want you too…"

Raven's eyes narrowed as she processed this information. It all fell into place quickly, the puzzle pieces falling together in her mind with chilling efficiency. Her father, William Salvatore, has to be the one behind this. She's already stripped him of everything of value before the apocalypse began Now he must have sold off her technological creations to gain the favor at Epsilon bases leadership. It is exactly the kind of desperate, parasitic move she would expected from her father.

Raven turned to Alara, her voice quiet as she said. "My father, William Salvatore, and his family are likely the ones who orchestrated this bounty. We'll need to pay them a visit soon," she said, her voice carrying a tone that made Trent's already fading mind twist in terror.

Alara stood up, her bat now resting casually on her shoulder, her eyes turning feral as she looked at Raven. "Are you going to kill them?" she asked, her voice deadly calm.

Raven shook her head slowly, her dark midnight blue hair brushing across her shoulders. "No. That would be far too easy," she replied, her lips curling into a humorless smile. "I will humiliate them, one by one, until they are nothing. Death will be a mercy I never give them."

Her voice dropped lower as she continued, her words slicing through Alara's heart like knives. "My father used to starve and beat me to get what he wanted. That's how he extracted the Omni silencers schematics from me. I was just a child, malnourished, half-dead most days… and he turned my hobbies my passion—into weapons for his empire. After my mother died, everything became worse. My stepmother, Victoria, encouraged it. My brother, Brandon, grew crueler under her influence. And when he married Clarissa, they had Jason… a fat, spoiled child who would mock me, eat in front of me while I starved alone in the closet of our penthouse."

Alara listened silently, her fingers tightening around the handle of her bat. Her breathing grew slower, deeper, each inhale sounding like a death sentence. The air around her seemed to drop in temperature, as if the world itself recoiled from the wrath slowly building inside her. "I see…" she whispered, her voice barely audible, trembling with a quiet, lethal rage. "They will pay… I promise you, Raven, they will pay for every moment they have made you suffer."

Raven looked at her, a strange softness crossing her otherwise unyielding face. As she reached out, placing a hand on Alara's cheek for a moment. "That's why I love you," she said.

Meanwhile, Trent, long forgotten on the ground, shook violently. His eyes, once filled with spite, now reflected nothing but distant horror and confusion. His breathing slowed to ragged. As the two women stood above him, locked in their private plans of revenge.Trent's head dropped to the side. His final breath escaping in a faint, pitiful gurgle. He died with the image of their faces in his eyes cold, resolute, and utterly indifferent to him now seared into his fading consciousness. In these final moments, Trent wondered how he ever believed he could trap these two monsters in human skin.
