Chapter 138 - Explosive Fish Warfare

The water moved gently on the shore as Raven adjusted the fit of her blue bikini, her green eyes catching the sunlight. Beside her, Alara twirled around playfully in her pink bikini, the pink color so offensively bright. Raven almost felt the urge to cover her eyes. It is a bold contrast, the apocalypse vs neon swimwear, but somehow it fits Alara's style.

Alara's wardrobe rarely deviates from her favorite pink color unless she chooses to wear something green, and Raven is not blind to the fact that her green clothing always matches her eye color. A small, private part of Raven finds this touching. The larger, more practical part of her finds it alarming.

With a brief command to her system space, Raven dropped a large speedboat into the shallow ocean water. It splashed onto the water with a shocking result. Its hull is now an unnatural shade of bubblegum pink. Raven stared at the color for a full second, then exhaled in frustration.

"I leave you alone in Sanctuary for five minutes...Alara " she said.

Alara shrugged. "The hull's color was too plain. Besides, Mighty Mouse volunteered to paint it for me."

Raven pictured her robot mouse enthusiastically painting the boat while Alara sat on a recliner eating sriracha barbecue zombie cores doing nothing. The image felt disturbingly realistic. Without another word, she climbed aboard the speed boat.

Behind her, Alara launched herself from the beach. She jumped more than ten feet through the air, landing on the deck with a dull thud that rattled the boat slightly.

Raven looked over her shoulder, arching a eyebrow at Alara. "My my Alara, you have certainly gotten stronger. Looks like your second evolution is not far off."

Alara grinned in excitement. "I can feel it Raven. My body is changing. All that time we spend in Sanctuary is equal to months for us, while only a few days have passed in the outside world. That five-to-one time ratio is really paying off."

Raven nodded, turning and sitting in the pilot seat. She pressed the ignition button, and the boat engine came to life. The pink engine sticking out from the front of the boat echoed with surprising power, propelling them quickly away from the shore. The land fell behind them as ocean spray misted the air around Alara and Raven's face, accentuating their beauty in the afternoon sun.

Several miles away from the beach, Raven turned off the engine. The ocean water here is calm for the moment.

Raven stood up and walked to the stern, where Alara waited patiently. With a kick from her foot, Raven activated a switch on the deck below their feet. A square hatch opened. From inside, it rose up an eerie, hand guided missile launcher, mounted on a stabilizing pole, and fed from under the boat deck with missiles.

"You built this?" Alara asked.

"Of course I did. Welcome to the next evolution in fish-based explosive warfare," Raven said. "I call it Missile Fishing."

She handed Alara the control and stepped aside. "You get the first shot."

A few feet away from Alara. Raven pulled out a steel container and unlatched the lid. Inside was a live, bloody pig. Alara lifted her head in question.

"Don't worry," Raven said as she lifted the pig and threw it into the water. "This pig is raised humanely in Sanctuary. I needed an animal for bait. What better bait than bacon. You would be surprised how useful controlled breeding programs are in the apocalypse."

The pig squealed as it hit the ocean water with a scream, thrashing as it tried to swim away. Its blood turned the water red. Soon a dark shape split the waters surface as a fin surfaced above it, the fin was long and jagged. First their was one shadow then another.

Alara's fingers tightened around the hand grips. "Targets acquired." She yelled.

Alara loaded a missile from the deck below, aimed the launcher, and pressed the fire switch.

The launcher fired. The missile fired at a speed that rivals naval artillery, flying through the sky before impacting the water. The ocean water bubbled. A moment later, a deafening explosion echoed across the ocean waves. Chunks of flesh, fin, and blood blew up put of the water.

After a moment the water settled into a frothing blood red stew, now thick with meat and ready to eat.

Alara leapt up, one arm raised. "Bullseye!"

Raven stared at the steaming water crater in the sea and crossed her arms in contemplation.

"Maybe it's time for me to get a few naval ships. Or build one. Metal's easy to come by these days. Local salvage yards are just waiting to be looted."
