Chapter 4 - Salt to the Wound

Eric Diamonde was kissing me.

And I was kissing him back!

Of course I wasn't going to think about how crazy it was for now. His kiss was demanding and it kinda flustered me in a pleasant way. I threw my hands around his shoulders and pressed my chest against his. It was all womanly instincts and the pleasure sensors in my brain were ringing jingle bells. The consequences? I was going to worry about them later. He initiated this one after all.

My phone began to ring. Eric hesitated but I guided him, pressing into him more. Ignore the fucking phone! I think he took the hint. But then, his phone began to ring as well.

"Damn it," I cursed under my breath when Eric pulled away. His eyes slanted with a deadly scowl as he answered the call. "Okay… yes… I'll handle it." He turned to me and with an icy tone, said: "Your private number has been leaked. It's best if you stay away from you phone for the time being."

"Why would I? My silence is only going to make me culpable." My protests was drowned by the persistent ringing of my phone. I grabbed it to put it on silent then I turned off the voicemail settings.

"I'd rather you not be hasty since your mess implicates me as well." Eric stood up and walked buck naked to the bathroom. I heard the shower go off. Oh wow, in the middle of crisis, he just wants to have his bath. Eric Diamonde was surely aloof. This impending scandal wasn't bothering him one bit and for all the bullshit about him marrying me. I peered over at his phone when it began to ring again. My breath hitched in my throat. It was Patrick Diamonde, the chairman of the Diamonde conglomerate, Eric's grandfather. I wasn't worthy being in the same room with a direct phonecall. For if Eric, the vice-chairman was untouchable, his grandfather was unreachable.

I grabbed my own phone, my grip faltering on it as it vibrated furiously with calls from unknown numbers. Finally there was a breakthrough in the form of a call from a saved number. Mikkel. I'd use my last breath cursing Mikkel.

"Mikkel you…"

"The phone is on speaker," Mikkel cut in. "My whole family is here, so are some journalists. They couldn't reach you so they came to me. Better watch what you say."

I gritted my teeth with rage. I wanted to loudly deny the allegations but I remembered Eric's most recent warning that I be quiet about it for now.

"How could you do this Donna?" Came the voice of Julianne, Mikkel's stepmother, a wrinkled woman who was addicted to massive jewelry. "With our open arms we welcomed you into our family only for you to betray us."

"How can you have an affair when you're already married? As a woman, don't you have any worth? As if it isn't bad enough that you have refused to give my son an heir, you add salt to the wound," said Morris, Mikkel's father.

"She's nothing but a married whore, but not for long. Let my brother set her free so she can freely be the slut she wants to be." That was Mikkel's stepsister, Anna.

"I told Mikkel not to marry her but he wouldn't listen. He was so in love. And now he's had his heart broken." Mikkel's other stepsister, Mia. Mia and Anna were twins. Julianne was their biological mother.

"Mrs Farrho goodday, I am Kelly Spears from the City's Inquirer. Do you have anything to say? Perhaps to defend yourself."

"Defend herself my foot. And don't call her Farrho. She's no longer one of us," Morris spitefully said.

"What can she possibly say for herself?" Julianne asked. "Even her dear friend Helen Strutter has warned her many times not to cheat but would she listen? Maybe she thinks our son would forgive her but why would he? She's even still with her lover…"

A clamour rose in the background, from the journalists wanting to know if it was true. I opened my mouth and closed it. I was speechless. It wasn't like I had expected anything more from Mikkel's family. They all knew he was cheating. Many times in the past, he had employed their help to beg me not to leave the marriage. Yet now that it was the other way round, they were intent on crucifying me.

"She's not even denying it. So she's still with her lover," Mia said smugly.

"Enough all of you, you've all had your say!" shouted Mikkel. "Donna, if you have any dignity left, you better come to the house and sign the divorce papers. Bring all the lawyers you want but you're not leaving this marriage with any penny from me. You don't even have my child so at least, less complications. Also, we know you are at the Diamonde Five Star Hotel since we've tracked your location. We'll come for you ourselves if you don't come."

"How can one have an affair in such a highly esteemed hotel. Couldn't she have gone to a motel or something?" asked Anna.

"That's why she's shameless," Mia said. "I will personally petition the chairman of the Diamonde conglomerate so she will be blacklisted and she will never set foot in any of their enterprises ever again."

"She truly has no shame, going to have an affair in the most expensive hotel in the city. I bet her affair has no money. Mikkel, before she uses your money to sponsor her infidelity, you better block all her bank cards," Julianne suggested.

"Already done!"

I felt numb. I always knew Mikkel was a lowlife despite his affluent background but I never imagined he would stoop this low. Maybe that was my mistake. Tears rolled down my eyes as unbridled rage bubbled within me. How could I let Mikkel get away with this? I had to make him pay somehow.

While in my deep thoughts, I did not know when Eric re-entered the room. He was donned in a fluffy bathrobe and was drying his hair with a small towel. He looked absolutely sexy with his feline green eyes framed by long lashes. What really did I stand to lose from marrying him. He tilted his head curiously at me, a bit bothered by my tears. I put the phone on speaker so he could hear my in-laws talking about how my affair was definitely a broke miserable man. Eric's brows drew into a frown. I don't think he appreciated the thought of being poor and miserable. He snatched my phone.

"No, wait!" I panicked soundlessly.

"Hello? My name is Eric Diamonde, and I am Donna Farrho's alleged affair."
