Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Lone Survivor

"MOM! DAD! W-WE NEED TO LEAVE!" I busted into my parents' room just in time to see them mere moments away from getting it on, but I didn't care about that, not after what I witnessed; we needed to leave now.

"C-Cooper! W-What are you doing!?" Asked Mom in slight anger as she quickly grabbed her clothes, covering herself while Dad did the same, though I didn't wait for them to do so and grabbed their hands.

"We need to leave! B-Beasts are attacking the village!" I said quickly while pulling them both with all my might, pulling them off the bed and onto the ground.

"Cooper, what are you talking about? Beasts wouldn't just attack the village." Dad looked at me in confusion while putting his pants on, which caused me to gnash my teeth as I knew I didn't have the time to explain; thankfully, we began to hear faint yelling, which prompted Dad and Mom to warily approach the front door.

As they opened it, we saw Savannah and her parents running toward us; her dad had a nasty wound on his shoulder and was bleeding profusely.

"L-Lucy! J-Jack! W-We've got to leave, beasts, t-they're attacking the village!" As Savannah's Dad said that, I grabbed my parents' hands and pulled them out of the house, running opposite the village. "I told you! We've got to leave now!"

They still seemed slightly hesitant, but the wound on Savanah's dad's shoulder convinced them enough that they stopped trying to resist. As we began running towards the forest, the sounds of beasts grew louder, frightening us as we continued to run with all our might, but Savannah's Dad began to slow down, trailing behind us.

"D-Dad! R-Run harder!" Yelled Savanah loudly as she gasped for breath while glancing behind her, looking at her dad, yet just a few seconds later, his agonizing screams of pain were heard behind us.

"DAD!!" "D-DON'T LOOK BACK, SAVANAH!" Ignoring Savannah's mom's warning, I glanced behind me, only for my body to go cold as I saw faint silhouettes atop her dad, ripping him apart while his screams quickly grew quiet.

"Dammit! Run, don't stop!" Dad shouted with a solemn gaze, one that caused my heart to drop, and I didn't know why. "Lucy. Cooper… I… I love you both." With those final words, Dad suddenly turned around and sprinted toward the rapidly approaching beasts while screaming.

"JACK!" "DAD!" I yelled in horror as I watched a large silhouette pounce upon my Dad, biting his arm and tearing it off while several more forced him to the ground, his figure disappearing.

Instinctively, I tried to stop, to help him, but Mom suddenly yanked me forward, forcing me to run by her side.

"RUN, COOPER! D-DON'T WASTE JACK'S S-SACRIFICE!" Mom yelled aggressively at me through her sobs, causing me to grit my teeth as I continued running while wiping my eyes. However, just before we arrived at the forest, the beasts grew louder once more; they were catching up to us, and it was only a matter of time before they reached us.

"JASMINE. Y-YOU KNOW WHAT WE HAVE TO DO!" "I-I KNOW." Widening my eyes, I tightened my grip on Mom's hand, refusing to let go, yet with a mighty yank of her hand, she freed herself and didn't hesitate to turn around, same with Savanah's Mom, the two of them both ran towards the approaching beast horde.

"MOM!" Savannah and I shouted, my voice hoarse and vision slightly blurry from the nonstop tears.

"RUN AND DON'T STOP!" As I heard Mom's voice, I entered the forest with Savanah, sobbing while grabbing her hand as I led her. We continued to run and didn't dare stop, yet it was only a matter of time until Savannah grew exhausted.

"C-Cooper, I-I can't run anymore." "Y-You have to! You'll die if you don't!" I glared back at Savanah, whom I practically dragged through the forest. However, as if to spit in my face, the growls of beasts were once again heard, which gave Savanah a burst of energy, but she once again slowed back down.

"Savannah, please! D-Don't die; y-you can't leave me alone! I-I'm your l-little brother!" I pleaded with teary eyes while looking at Savanah, who simply flashed a weak smile. "A-As your b-big sister, I-I'm supposed to protect you." I tightened my grip on Savanah's wrist; unlike Mom, she wasn't strong enough to break free. Though as if to mock my efforts, a feline I'd never seen before suddenly pounced on Savanah, biting her neck and ripping it to shreds; seeing her fall to the ground while her arm slipped out of my grasp, she flashed a small, reassuring smile and pushed me further away, only for several other beasts to pounce upon her, tearing and eating her flesh.

"ARGHH!" Feeling immense pain in my back, I screamed in agony before turning around and eyeing a large hawk with bloody talons. Gritting my teeth, I suppressed the pain and used Indestructible Magic to strengthen my body as I significantly increased my speed, running nonstop into the forest.

I don't know how long passed; all I know is that I never heard any more beasts, and when I finally stopped running, the morning light shone on me. Approaching a tree, I plopped onto the ground and leaned against it, only to twitch as I touched my back, which had dried blood; as for the injury, it was mostly healed, but I didn't care.

"Dad… Mom… S-Savanah." Hugging my knees, I sat in a fetal position; though I didn't cry, my eyes had long since dried up, and now all that remained was deep sadness and fury that burned.

Clenching my knees, I furiously gnashed my teeth and released the fury that burned hot within my heart, causing me to be engulfed in a dense golden aura that shook the ground while my shoulder-length white hair rose to the sky.

"I'll kill them all."

After I managed to calm down, I spent the remainder of the day finding a place to live as I didn't know how long I'd be here for, though while searching, my stomach growled, causing me to frown as I shifted my focus to finding a small animal to hunt, which wasn't hard. I was deep in a forest, and the only problem was catching them; I was too slow.

Sneaking upon a rabbit with a horn, I crawled on all fours, getting roughly four or five feet close before it suddenly raised its head, prompting me to lunge forward as I knew it sensed something wrong, but I didn't even land on the ground, and the horned rabbit had already dashed away into the bushes.

"I should use my Indestructible Magic." I muttered softly while glancing at my hands before taking a deep breath and focusing, causing that comfortable warmth to quickly spread throughout my body only a few seconds later. I've gotten much better at using magic; the only problem was the start, but once you realized what you must do, it was exponentially easier in the following attempts; however, I didn't feel happy; I hardly even cared.

Clenching my fist, I lowered myself to the ground and stealthily searched the forest for my next victim; not even a minute later, I found another rabbit, only this time, it had two horns, though it didn't matter to me. Sneaking closer, I got within a few feet before pushing off the ground and speedily lunging toward it; by the time it raised its head, I was already above the rabbit. Pouncing on it, I grabbed the Rabbit's body and forced it to the ground, causing it to squirm aggressively as it tried to free itself, though just as I was about to kill it, its horns glowed brightly before two white lights stabbed my forearm.

"Fuck!" Gritting my teeth, I pushed the rabbit further into the ground while glancing at my other arm, which was bleeding from two small holes. Clenching the rabbit, I lifted it off the ground and grabbed its head before twisting it quickly, causing it to go limp; standing up, I carried the rabbit to a large tree beside a dirty pond.

Climbing the tree, I sat on a tree branch and silently glanced at the rabbit while my stomach growled in hunger; licking my fangs, I gulped before shaking my head and climbing down the tree as I grabbed multiple sticks, spending the next thirty minutes trying to create a fire, though I ended up just wasting my time, further frustrating me.

Grunting in anger, I climbed the tree and grabbed the rabbit before sinking my teeth into it, causing me to recoil, but I powered through it; tearing the flesh from the rabbit, I chewed before swallowing it.

"Disgusting." Although I said that, I continued to eat, tearing the rabbit's flesh until I was satisfied. Tossing the half-eaten rabbit into the distance, I wiped my bloody mouth while rubbing my stomach; I was slightly worried whether I'd survive eating a raw animal, but I decided to trust in my enhanced physique.

"I-I'm tired." With a yawn, I lay on the branch while closing my eyes, crying slightly as I drifted to sleep.
