Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Blood and Roses

The warehouse doors exploded inward.

Emma barely had time to grab Skyler's gun before the gunfire started.

Chaos erupted — shouting, bullets whizzing past, blood splattering the concrete.

Skyler pulled her behind a stack of crates, his face a mask of pure, brutal rage.

"Marco," he growled into his comm. "Status?"

Silence.

Then — a crackling laugh.

"Sorry, Boss," Marco's voice echoed through the radio. "Business is business."

Skyler's face went white with fury.

"That son of a —"

Emma grabbed his wrist. "It's a setup."

"Yeah," Skyler said grimly, loading a fresh magazine. "And it's us against everyone."

He cupped her face roughly, his thumb brushing the cut bleeding on her cheek.

"I need you to run, Emma," he said, voice ragged. "Now. I'll hold them off."

"No." Emma shook her head fiercely. "I'm not leaving you."

"Emma—"

"I said no!" she screamed, over the gunfire and death all around them. "You made me strong. You made me this. And now I'm standing with you."

Skyler stared at her for one heartbeat too long.

And then he kissed her — hard and desperate, like he knew it might be the last time.

"I love you," he said against her lips.

Emma gasped, her heart cracking wide open.

"I love you too," she whispered.

Then the world fell apart.

An enemy soldier rounded the corner. Emma didn't hesitate.

She raised the gun Skyler had taught her to use — and shot the man dead.

Skyler's eyes widened — a flash of pride and heartbreak mixed together.

More enemies came.

Skyler and Emma fought side by side — bloody, fierce, unstoppable.

But they were outnumbered.

A bullet ripped into Skyler's shoulder. He grunted but kept fighting.

Emma screamed his name, but he waved her off, taking down two men with brutal efficiency.

Another enemy rushed Emma — and she hesitated.

Just for a second.

Skyler saw it.

And he threw himself in front of her.

The bullet meant for her buried itself in his side.

"NO!" Emma screamed, catching him as he collapsed against her.

"Emma," he gasped, blood bubbling at his lips. "Don't cry."

Tears blurred her vision.

"You stupid, stubborn man," she sobbed. "Why would you do that?"

"Because," he whispered. "You're...my whole damn world."

More gunfire echoed. Skyler's men — the loyal ones — finally stormed in, wiping out the traitors.

But it was too late.

Skyler's hand tightened around Emma's.

"Promise me," he whispered. "You'll survive. You'll...live."

Emma bent over him, pressing her forehead to his.

"I can't without you," she cried.

"You can," he said, voice fading. "You're stronger than me."

Emma kissed him, salty tears mixing with blood.

"I love you," she whispered fiercely. "I love you, Skyler Romano."

He smiled — broken and beautiful.

"Blood and roses, baby," he murmured.

And then he was still.

Emma screamed — a raw, animal sound — shaking as she clutched his body to hers.

Around her, Skyler's men bowed their heads — not just for their fallen king, but for the queen he left behind.

Because Emma wasn't just Skyler's girl anymore.

She was the storm he unleashed on the world.

And she would burn it all to the ground for him.
