"I need to go out," Kalisa said suddenly.
Both Lisa and Caleb snapped their eyes at her.
"No," Caleb's reply came instantly, sharp, like a command rather than a conversation. "Absolutely not. You step outside right now, you're walking straight into Lyth and his men. Unless I am coming with you."
Kalisa shook her head, planting her feet firmly on the ground. "You don't understand. There are people out there, people who know things about Don Khan, and about Lyth. They won't talk to you, Caleb. They'll only talk to me."
Caleb's eyes narrowed, his arms folding over his chest in a stance that was both protective and stubborn. "Then I'll come with you."
"No," Kalisa said firmly, her voice cutting across his like a blade. "You can't."
"Why not?" His voice rose, incredulous.
