Chapter 174 - The Barren Realm

The passage had closed behind them with the finality of a tomb sealing, leaving them in a space that defied comprehension. One moment they had been walking through the armory's familiar stone corridors, their footsteps echoing against carved walls that spoke of civilization and purpose, and the next they stood upon ground that seemed to exist beyond the reach of life itself.

The realm stretched before them in endless desolation a vast expanse of stone that had been worn smooth by eons of nothingness. The rock beneath their feet was neither grey nor black but something in between, a color that seemed to absorb light without reflecting it back. There were no shadows here because there was no true light, only a diffuse luminescence that came from nowhere and illuminated nothing, casting the world in perpetual twilight that hurt the eyes to look upon.
