The moon died first. Selena watched in horror as the pale orb above simply winked out of existence, not hidden by clouds or eclipsed by shadow, but erased as if it had never been. The stars followed moments later, each point of light vanishing in sequence like candles being snuffed by an unseen hand. Soon the sky was a void of perfect blackness that seemed to press down upon the world with malevolent weight.
In that unnatural darkness, the armies rose.
