Suddenly, the groups of bats were consumed by a large fire.
Screech!
Most of the creatures writhed in pain as their bodies charred and burned. Some managed to evade and rejoined the swarm circling the shelter.
Evelyn and Maya looked to the side and saw me clinging awkwardly at the edge of the roof. My legs scrambled for footing while both hands strained to pull myself up. Somehow, I had managed to cast Hellfire Burst from that miserable position, though not all the creatures were hit.
"Alan! What are you doing here?" Evelyn cried as she and Maya rushed over, grabbing my arms and hauling me onto the roof.
I dusted myself off and tried to act cool. "Of course, I came to help my friends in need."
