Chapter 8 - Daddy's Home

Roughly seven months had passed since [Lost Haven] had been released to critical and commercial success in the early month of September, 2024.

And now, on the 3rd of March, 2025…

Best Original Song.

Best Original Score.

Best Original Screenplay.

Best Cinematography.

Best Supporting Actor.

Best Actor.

Best Director.

Best Picture.

A total of eight Academy Nods had been given to the critically acclaimed original movie that had gone on to become a box office juggernaut, earning a whopping $570 million on a budget of $20 million.

Of these eight nods, Kyle was nominated in three brackets.

Best Original Song. Best Original Score. Best Supporting Actor.

You'd think, that with such amazing achievements for a fairly young man his age, he'd be so ecstatic on such an auspicious day.

Yet, something else entirely was bugging Kyle as at the moment.

"They've called her Mama several times Oliver! Not a single Dada!" the young father felt like pulling his hair out at the moment.

Oliver, alongside Jeff, Xavier, Ryan, Joe and Steven, burst into laughter in response to the young superstar's words.

At the moment, they were all mingling with each other alongside many other celebrities at the reception lounge of the familiar Dolby Theatre in L.A, prior to the event beginning.

Flashing cameras followed the large party of celebrities even as they continued conversing and yet, Kyle couldn't even be bothered by it at the moment.

He'd already responded to their many plethora of questions, interviews and reasonable requests without fail so even though most wished he'd stayed longer, they were still so glad that he'd humored them.

He was after all the hottest thing Hollywood had— and for the foreseeable future— would be seeing for years to come.

Speaking of the hottest things Hollywood had seen though…

Aiden whom had just arrived at the venue, upon spotting Kyle conversing with other popular figures in Hollywood, was about to make his way over to give his greetings…

Only to be flooded by reporters, journalists and the likes, everyone curious to know how he felt about being nominated for the Academy's Best Actor Award at quite the young age.

"I'll admit though that I get so happy when they call out to their mother…" Kyle's concerned gaze on the other hand, turned gleeful as he continued speaking.

"But what about me!" he lightly patted his chest a couple times with an achingly sulky expression.

Bursting into another hearty laughter, their mirth on full-display, Ryan soon remarked, rhetorically;

"You do realize, that most babies, don't even utter those words properly until they're six to nine months old?"

"Yeah. In fact, I'd say, for four months old, Nathan and Natalia are something else." Joe added, his voice clearly impressed.

"Top of the line, baby geniuses." Steven gestured with widespread arms.

"Give my godchildren time, kiddo." Jeff chipped in, gently patting Kyle's shoulders.

"They'll come around…" Xavier assured.

"Eventually." Oliver concluded.

"Alright. I hear you." Kyle sighed in response and soon, the conversation shifted to another topic of interest.

About an hour later, the award show began.

Sitting right next to Kyle, was Aiden on his left, followed by Xavier— and on his right, Oliver, followed by Jeff.

"How'd you cope with reporters and journalists, swarming you every time?!" Aiden whispered to his role model.

He was quite nervous at the moment so he was looking for any, any sort of distraction at all.

"I don't. I just consider them normal people doing their job. It becomes so much easier to humor them when you see things from their perspective like that." Kyle whispered right back.

"Paparazzi though…" his voice trailed off.

"I'll keep trolling them till kingdom come for being pesky little rapscallions." the young billionaire, humorously concluded.

This earned him a chuckle from Aiden whose nerves relaxed noticeably, his attention returning to the stage as the nominees for the first awards were mentioned.

The Best Supporting Actor Award.

Usually, it was presented to set the tone of the award show.

And so…

"And the nominees for the Best Supporting Actor is …" Sharon stated.

Jeremy Winch, [Washed Away] | "I never asked for this… any of this…"

Timothy Bay, [8 Seconds] | "All it takes, is eight seconds."

Riley Chains, [Heaven's Fall] | "Right there. It's just right there! Not up above! Down below!"

Adam West, [Beautiful Times] | "I made it alive. That's all that matters."

Kyle Kestis, [Lost Haven] | "Has anyone ever told you, what the definition, of insanity, is?"

"… and the award goes to…" Jasmine opened up the envelope.

"Kyle Kestis, [Lost Haven]!" the ladies called out in unison!

A resounding flood of applauds filled up the room as Kyle, took to hugging his agent first, then Xavier, before he then made his way up onto the stage with a blooming smile.

Sharing a warm hug with Sharon and Jasmine, the young man, having received the award, moved towards the mic.

His first words were…

"Nathan, Natalia. I hope you're seeing this."

A wave of audibly amused chuckles cascaded across the auditorium.

"Dada's won his first Academy Award!" he continued, prompting a ripple of laughter to erupt from the audience of celebrities in the room.

"And guess, what? It's all thanks to your Mama!" he added playfully, the laughter in the room only increasing by the minute.

Then the young star's demeanor turned warm and blissful, his tone shifting to genuinity;

"Truly, sweetie, without you writing such a fantastic, original script for me to bounce off of and bring Victor Morello to life, I probably wouldn't be here, with this very award."

"So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I love you so much." he concluded his speech with an adoring smile and the audience showered him with another round of applauds.

And just like that, the Award Ceremony had kicked off into full gear.

Unsurprisingly, Kyle had won every bracket he was in, with Xavier winning the Best Director Award, something he hadn't won in years.

Aiden, unfortunately, didn't win the award for Best Actor in A Leading Role, but still, just being nominated for such a role, was already a huge boost to his career.

Hollywood was sure to be seeing more of him in the coming years.

As for Christina, although many had hoped she'd win the Best Original Screenplay Award, it had still come as an absolute shocker to her when she in fact, won the award!

So much that her eyes remained widened for the entire length of the period she watched her name being announced as the winner from home.

In her place though, Kyle who knew well enough that she'd win it, received the award on his wife's behalf, politely explaining to everyone on seat that she'd opted to stay at home for the twins' sake.

And just like that, the award show continued on, with Cassandra Cage, much like her husband, taking home the Best Picture Award.

In any case, the very next day, Kyle whom had rushed right home to Canada from Los Angeles, opened the door gently, his travel bag slung over his arms as he walked in.

"I'm home!" he called out melodiously, clearly happy to be back.

Coming out of the corner, Christina beamed, the twins in her arms as she welcomed him with an affectionate smile while mouthing;

Before Kyle could even reply, the unexpected happened;

"Dada!" Natalia called out, her arms flailing around giddily as she leaned towards him.

Kyle and Christina froze!

"I didn't hear wrong, right?!" he soon asked after a couple seconds, his sapphire irises in astonished disbelief as he stared at his daughter's cerulean-blue!

Before his wife could also respond, Nathan babbled;

"Dada!"

And then they both continued repeating it, practically reaching out in eager ardor for their awestruck dad who felt like he'd been hit by multiple thunderbolts!

Without hesitation, Kyle let out a joyous laughter as he received the two munchkins with the most loving smile!

Truly, what more could make a man happy than the endearing smiles of his wife and children, absolutely ecstatic for him to be back home.
