Chapter 297 - Isn’t Thanos’ Death a Bit Too Miserable?

"Could it be that, in this world, Stark never created Ultron before? That this time was his first attempt at creating Ultron?"

After thinking for a while, T'Challa shared this speculation with everyone.

Otherwise, this option would be far too simple, because it contained an obvious logical flaw.

"That's possible," Scott Lang nodded. "Only that would make sense. Otherwise, this option would be way too easy."

"Even if that really were my first time creating Ultron, I don't think Ultron would end up snatching the Stones," Tony Stark said after a moment of thought.

"No matter how powerful Ultron is, at the end of the day he's still a robot, and his actions are governed by the program written for him."

"For example, why did Infinite Ultron slaughter the multiverse? Everyone, isn't that simply because of Infinite Ultron's programming?"

"Destroying all of humanity and slaughtering the multiverse are essentially the same thing—just a difference in scale. The nature of it is identical."

"If I really had created an Ultron to snap his fingers back then, I definitely would have programmed him with specific instructions."

"That instruction would certainly be to revive all the Earthlings who were killed by Thanos. Under such an instruction, how could Ultron possibly go on to slaughter the multiverse?"

Tony Stark's words made a great deal of sense.

If he had truly created Ultron to perform the snap, then no matter how Ultron twisted Tony Stark's intent, he couldn't possibly twist it into exterminating all of humanity or destroying the universe.

After all, that instruction was to save people, not something vague like 'maintain world peace,' which leaves plenty of room for interpretation.

What's more, even taking a step back, such a clear and specific instruction would be extremely difficult to misinterpret.

"Sounds reasonable!"

Thor was the first to express his agreement, and none of the other participants raised any objections.

Option B was essentially eliminated without any controversy.

"Then what about option C, Mr. Stark?" Peter Parker asked curiously, fixing his gaze on option C.

"According to the main universe's information, Ultron died long before Thanos 'came into the open,' so this option clearly contradicts that," Tony Stark said as he examined the option and gave his judgment.

"Let's assume that the tiny difference between the 'Infinite Ultron Universe' and the main universe is that, during the Battle of Sokovia, we didn't kill Ultron."

"Ultron successfully escaped!"

"From then on, he lay low, waiting for a new opportunity, biding his time and accumulating strength, trying once again to kill the Avengers."

"In that case, would it be possible for him to use an alien spaceship to find Thanos, steal the Stones, and then use them to wipe out humanity?"

That scenario was, in theory, entirely possible.

However, even if it did happen, the likelihood of Ultron actually snatching the Stones from Thanos was extremely low.

Ultron couldn't even defeat the Avengers. Trying to kill a fully-Stoned Thanos before Thanos destroyed the Stones was an incredibly remote possibility.

A Thanos with all the Stones was practically godlike.

How could a mere Ultron defeat him?

Not to mention Ultron alone—even if Ultron led an entire Ultron army, the chances were still slim.

After everyone's analysis, option C was also eliminated without dispute.

That left only the final option.

So was the last option possible?

"Thanos goes to steal Ultron's Stone, but gets counter-killed by Ultron?" Captain America pondered slightly. "In the main universe, Ultron doesn't have a Stone. Vision does, so…"

"So the tiny difference from the main universe is that Ultron successfully transferred his consciousness into Vision's body!" Scott Lang interjected.

"In that case, Ultron would have a vibranium body and a Mind Stone."

Scott Lang's hypothesis was quite reasonable, and everyone agreed.

This conclusion was based on known events and the behavioral logic of the relevant characters—there was nothing wrong with it.

"That means Ultron at that point was essentially Vision. So could Vision defeat a five-Stone Thanos?" Thor glanced at everyone and asked.

"Probably not?" Scott Lang said matter-of-factly. "That's five Stones against one Stone. It doesn't make sense for someone with one Stone to kill someone with five, right?"

Scott Lang's words matched everyone's initial reaction.

Especially for those who had seen relevant footage, they knew exactly how powerful five-Stone Thanos was—utterly dominating numerous superheroes.

But that was only an instinctive reaction. After thinking it through more carefully, everyone became more rational.

Although Thanos crushed many heroes, he was also resisted—and even overwhelmed at times!

Scarlet Witch was able to completely restrain Thanos while destroying the Mind Stone. Thor had nearly cleaved a six-Stone Thanos in half. Captain Marvel had also beaten a fully-Stoned Thanos into submission.

All of this showed that a five-Stone Thanos was not invincible.

"That's right. Most superheroes are helpless before five-Stone Thanos, but if someone's strength reaches a certain level, five-Stone Thanos isn't necessarily unbeatable," Captain America said after some thought.

"Then how strong is Vision?" T'Challa asked curiously.

Through shared intelligence, he knew of Vision's existence, but he didn't have a precise understanding of Vision's true strength.

"Vision is very strong!" Tony Stark said decisively. "I'd even say he's not inferior to Thor."

That wasn't an exaggeration.

Just Vision's ability to freely shift between intangibility and solidity alone was enough to make him practically unbeatable.

On top of that, his use of the Stone was clearly far more refined than Thanos'. He could fire energy beams directly from it.

"So does that mean Vision could possibly kill a five-Stone Thanos, Mr. Stark?" Peter Parker couldn't help asking.

"Yes, that possibility definitely exists," Tony Stark nodded firmly.

If Vision could do it, then Ultron in the Infinite Ultron universe could naturally do it as well.

Aside from differences in personality, there was essentially no difference between the two.

At this point, the answer to the question was obvious.

Options A, B, and C had all been eliminated. Only option D had any plausibility, so D was the natural choice.

Next came the question of who would answer.

After a brief discussion, everyone agreed that Scott Lang would take it.

"I choose D—counter-kill Thanos!" Scott Lang immediately announced his answer to the big screen.

[Answer correct!]

The result was exactly as expected. The system confirmed that the answer was correct.

[Congratulations to contestant Scott Lang for receiving one dose of Compound No. 5!]

As the system's announcement ended, a syringe appeared in Scott Lang's hand, filled with a pale blue liquid.

There was no doubt—it was Compound No. 5.

"My favorite part is here. Mr. Scott, what kind of ability will this Compound No. 5 give you?" Peter Parker asked excitedly.

"I don't know," Scott Lang shook his head.

"You don't know?" Thor was curious.

He had received system rewards multiple times and knew that each reward normally came with information implanted directly into the recipient's mind.

Not knowing was unusual.

"This improved version of Compound No. 5 can mutate the human body and grant a random ability. But what that ability is—I don't know," Scott Lang explained.

Everyone understood.

This kind of blind-box reward was something they were encountering for the first time.

"Scott, what are you waiting for? Inject it already!" Thor urged cheerfully.

He really wanted to see what ability Scott Lang would awaken.

"That's right, Lang. It's like drawing a lottery prize. Why hesitate?" Tony Stark chimed in.

"Feels like gambling. I've got no idea what I'll draw," Scott Lang said, taking a deep breath.

Then, without much hesitation, he injected Compound No. 5 into his body.

As Tony Stark had said, system-produced items were trustworthy.

No matter what ability it awakened, it certainly wouldn't be harmful.

Very quickly—

The moment the drug entered his body, Scott Lang immediately felt a surge of power flowing through him.

When that surge subsided, he instantly sensed that he had gained a new ability.

"Wow. I've got to say, this is something I never expected," Scott Lang said blankly, then nodded. "But… it's not bad."

"Lang, what ability did you get?" T'Challa asked curiously.

"The ability to communicate with animals," Scott Lang replied.

"Communicate with animals?" Tony Stark paused, then asked, "Does that include humans?"

"Of course! Humans are animals too!"

Scott Lang didn't speak out loud, but Tony Stark immediately felt a strange mental signal in his mind.

It wasn't language.

It was a bizarre form of consciousness fluctuation that Tony Stark instinctively understood.

It was a form of direct mind-to-mind communication, transcending spoken language.

Scott Lang then used this method to communicate with the others as well, prompting everyone around him to marvel in amazement.

This ability couldn't really be called useless, but it was undeniably quite strange.

"So now Ant-Man doesn't just control ants—he can communicate with birds, bugs, stray dogs, stray cats… not bad at all," Tony Stark praised, though the praise sounded a bit odd.

"Mr. Scott, can you communicate with anyone you want?" Peter Parker asked curiously.

"Not exactly. For humans, it only works within a few dozen meters. Beyond that, it doesn't work. But for birds and the like, a few kilometers is no problem," Scott Lang explained.

"Got it. The higher the intelligence, the greater the limitation," Peter Parker nodded.

[Question completed. Beginning answer analysis playback!]

The system's prompt suddenly sounded. Everyone stopped talking and turned their attention to the big screen.

The first thing that appeared was a narration-like voice:

[The destruction of the world begins with one man's dream.]

Corresponding to these words was footage of Tony Stark researching the scepter.

Stark stared at it with shining eyes and said, "What I see is a world protected by armor!"

This was clearly the beginning of Ultron's creation.

[He envisioned a peaceful world. Tony Stark used the Mind Stone to create Ultron.]

[But Ultron saw only one path to peace. From puppet to puppeteer, Ultron needed one thing—a body capable of housing him.]

[A body that fused humanity, machinery, and the power of the mind.]

[In your universe, the Avengers seized the Regeneration Cradle and created a new hero, Vision. But in this universe, Ultron achieved his goal.]

[Wielding Ultron with infinite power, he began destroying this city.]

As the narration continued, a series of rapid montage scenes played, fully depicting Ultron's creation and his transformation into a "Vision-version" Ultron.

This matched everyone's speculation exactly.

The difference between the "Infinite Ultron Universe" and the main universe was indeed that Ultron successfully transferred his consciousness into Vision's body.

Next, the screen showed a series of scenes of Ultron destroying the world. He first killed most of the superheroes, then used nuclear weapons to annihilate Earth.

[But the Age of Ultron was only the beginning.]

As this line sounded—

A space portal suddenly appeared behind Ultron on the screen. Thanos, wielding five Infinity Stones, stepped out of the portal.

It was clear that Thanos' objective at this moment was the Mind Stone on Ultron's forehead.

He had succeeded against Vision, but unfortunately for him, he failed against Ultron.

Ultron sensed the disturbance behind him. When he turned around, his attention was immediately drawn to the other Infinity Stones in Thanos' hand.

"Interesting!"

Ultron remarked lightly. A beam of light shot out from the Mind Stone on his forehead, instantly slicing Thanos in half!
