Chapter 12 - HELP

LANA'S POV

PRESENT

It felt like I've been sitting here for years. Over the time period I've been here, I've seen so many people come and go. I just watched a couple get engaged. You'd think that this place was too, well, cheap for a proposal but I guess love is the only standard that matters to them. I got to witness a man almost get kicked out of the cafe because he couldn't afford the meal he ordered

I felt sad watching him beg for a small part of the meal. I wish I could've done something about it but I'm glad that there are still good people around here because someone opted to pay for his meal for today and whenever he came by

"Put it on my tab" The kind gentle man said with his deep Husky voice

"Thank you so much" The man said, rushing back to his seat to continue his meal. He ate and left no crumbs. Lord only knows what he's been through this past couple of days

I also watched a middle school soccer team breeze in with their uniforms feeling pumped to finally have food in their bellies after being on the road for the last three hours after winning some competition.

I never knew middle school kids had things like that. I glanced at my watch and it just clocked 11:50am. Just a few minutes more

"Excuse me ma'am" I felt a hand tap my shoulder, bringing me out of my every wandering mind and back into reality

"Yes, sorry. What did you say?" I said, eyes scanning her expression

"I asked if you needed anything else?" The waitress looked at me funny

"No thank you" I managed a smile

They probably think I'm homeless or maybe can't afford the meal I ordered like the man from earlier.

"Okay then" The waitress ask before turning away, checking up on other customers in the cafe

I pulled out my wallet from my purse, pulling out a couple bills and placing them under the coffee cup. I turned my attention back outside the cafe and that's when I saw him stepping out from his car before locking the door.

"Finally" I said out loud, causing a few heads to turn in my direction "Sorry" I said packing my things, getting ready to leave

I bolted across the street, trying to meet up with Mr Anderson as he entered the police station

"Who wanted to meet with me?" I heard him say as I burst through the front doors

"Her actually" The officer at the front desk pointed at me

He turned around and our eyes met "Oh it's you" He said, a faint smile appearing on his face "you could've called"

"I could've have" I said between deep breaths "But I didn't have any way to reach you" I added walking up to meet him by the front desk

The station looked fuller than it did when I came in earlier. Seems everyone clocked in not so long ago

"I'm guessing you're hear about Xavier" Mr Anderson asked signing the papers the female officer handed to him

"Yes I am" I said, not minding the curious looks I was getting from her

"Come with me then" He said, steeping as he guided me through the hall way into his office

"I was a bit surprised when I heard my colleague say you came in this morning wanting to see, what was more surprising was seeing you burst through the doors like that" Mr Anderson chuckled lightly as we took our seats "Might I ask why you're here?"

"Well there's a only one reason I'd be here in this station" I said, locking my gaze to his

"Ah" He rubbed the bridge of his nose "Xavier"

"Yes, him. Why do you still have him locked up? I mean you're his late father's friend, given how close you both are he's practically your nephew at this point so do you feel okay letting your nephew rot away in prison?" My spoke up, my voice unwavering

"He's charged with murder. He's in prison for killing your sister" Mr Anderson reminded me "If anyone would want him to rot away in that cell it would be you"

Can everyone please stop reminding me that he killed Eva? I'm well aware of his crime

"Allegedly" I blurted out

"Have you ever heard of Stockholm syndrome?" Mr Anderson said, leaning back into his chair

"What are you insinuating?" I asked arching a brow

"You've been living with him for some time now, correct?" Mr Anderson asked

I hesitated for a bit before answering "Yes…"

"You could be feeling some sentimental attachment to him and now you don't want to be apart from him even though you know that being around him is bad for you you, knowing very well he killed your sister you still want him around you" Mr Anderson added

"I don't have any form of attachment or sentimental bond with Xavier. I've forgiven him and I've moved on"

"You might've forgiven him but this is a case of murder. Merely "forgiving" someone doesn't change the fact that they killed someone. This is a matter of the state implementing its rule and laws" Mr Anderson pushed up from his seat "Unless you can prove that he didn't kill your sister then I'm sorry to say, he's going to stay locked up prior to the conclusion of any further investigation"

"How do you expect me to find any evidence that he didn't kill my sister when I found her dead on the floor of his mansion with him nowhere to be found except for the murder confession that was also found on the scene?" I asked, my voice slightly raised

He looked at me in silence. I wonder if he's caught on to my true intentions merely from what I said

"Unless you can prove he's innocent, I'm sorry I can't let him back out there, regardless my relationship with his late father" Mr Anderson said, his voice a low chill

"I believe I can help with proving his innocence" A voice spoke up from behind us
