Ember had barely taken a step away from her room when one of her maidservants appeared before her, shaking like a leaf left out in the biting winter cold.
"What is it, Amara?" Ember asked the maidservant who was normally in charge of her wardrobe and personal amenities.
Amara stared at her wide-eyed, holding out a piece of paper before her. "The Duke-Heir of Belmore has asked me to deliver this letter to you." She finished with a stutter.
Ember snagged the piece of paper from the girl, unfurling it with zero anticipation because she could already guess what the contents said and who it was from.
