Chapter 6 - Sad to the core - Raye's POV

Raye's POV

I got home around 3am after having an amazing night at the club. It was fire!!

As I turned on the lights of my dad's million dollar designed living room, I saw my parents and they were really angry but I didn't care.

"You guys scared shit outta me!" I exaggerated.

"If you thought that was scary then just see your test results." Dad said calmly but I instantly felt chills.

"Raye! This isn't the daughter I raised. What happened to you?" Mom asked.

"Why are you still questioning her?" Dad asked coldly.

"I just don't understand her at all, it's like everything about her changed since we moved here." Mom complained.

"Look now, young lady." Dad said to me.

"What is it, Dad?" I asked nonchalantly.

"If you don't do well in your exams this time around, I will disown you." Dad threatened.

"What?" I muttered.

"No, you can't do such. You can't disown my daughter. Please, Richard. Please!" Mom begged.

"She has a choice. Pass her exams or be officially disowned." Dad said then he went upstairs.

"Raye! Look at what you've done. Do you still think you're in pre school. Grow up, foolish girl! Grow up! I'll personally assign a tutor for you, tomorrow. And you better attend the lessons or else? The consequences you'll regret." Mom scolded.

"I- I- Ma!" I exclaimed then bursted into tears. Mom hugged me.

"Darling! For once, make me proud. Do the right thing. I love you so much, baby. And I will always forgive you but your dad, he's not exactly the type that forgives. Just do the right thing. I don't want to lose you." Mom advised and she give me a kiss on the head and went upstairs.

I went into the kitchen to get juice and I went upstairs into my room. I took a bubble bath, after I was done, I wore my night wear and went straight to the bed, having another episode of tears and this time, it came with a migraine.

"Morning Dad." I greeted, gloomy.

"Have you arranged a tutor for your daughter?" Dad asked Mom, completely ignoring me.

"Yes. I have. And luckily today is Friday, she would be home early to start her lesson immediately." Mom replied.

"Good." Dad said then he left for 'work.'

"Darling, do you want to provoke your dad even more than you already have?" Mom asked, clearly serious.

"But- What did I do?" I asked, genuinely not knowing my wrong.

"Why were you looking at him like that?" Mom asked.

"Like how?" I responded. "I'm so annoyed right now. So, who is this tutor?"

"A kid named Jerry from your school. I think he's in your class too." Mom said.

"Jerry only does English with us. And why him of all people? Infact, why my school of all schools out there? You're gonna ruin my social life, Mom!" I shouted.

"Your social life also is a failure." Mom commented.

"Mom!" I exclaimed.

"What type of a person follows about five thousand people?" Mom asked.

"Mom!" I exclaimed again.

"A desperate person. Darling, look at your life. You're living the best life that any-" I interrupted Mom.

"Well at least they have parents who devote their time to them." I said as I stood up then I left.

I could hear her shouting my name but I ignored her and left for school. While I was in the car, I applied make up. When I got to school, I saw Ginny and Melissa at the parking lot.

"Hey girls." I said as I walked up to them.

"Morning girlfriend." Melissa and Ginny greeted in unison.

"Last night was crazy!" I commented.

"Yass! I had so much fun. I really enjoyed the party. Too bad, it ended early." Ginny sighed.

"At least we had fun right?" I asked to confirm.

"Yeah!" Melissa shrieked.

"The obvi!" Ginny said.

"Raye, it's JJ." Melissa said while facing JJ.

"Watch me do my charm." I said then I went over to him.

"Or not." Ginny whispered to Melissa.

"I don't get why she's doing this. Throwing herself to a guy who doesn't see her as a human." Melissa said then Ginny sighed.

"Hi, JJ." I said to him.

"What now?" He asked.

"I just wanted to say hi." I replied, trying to flirt with him.

"Um. You've already said hi, now leave me alone." He said in a commanding tone. For a moment, I thought he was Dad, and I felt those chills of last night. I just walked away to avoid any more problems. I went back to the girls.

"How was it?" Melissa asked.

"Terrible." I said then I started crying.

"Oh no babe." Ginny said as she hugged me.

"Let's get you inside before these people see you." Melissa suggested and I agreed.

They took me to the rest room and helped me adjust my makeup.

As we were on our way outside, I spotted Serena about to come in. My blood went high. She was the reason why JJ doesn't look at me anymore. I went to meet her and, Ginny and Melissa tagged along.

The driver Mom sent came to pick me up. I got home and took an hour bath, changed into a black crop top and a pink mini skirt. In about twenty minutes time, a maid came to tell me that Jerry has arrived. I saw Jerry with a drink and Mom offering him cookies which he declined.

"Oh. Darling, meet Jerry." Mom introduced Jerry to me like we were meeting for the first time.

"Mom, I know him already." I said.

"Sorry dear. She's a bit rude." Mom said to Jerry and he nodded in agreement.

"I'll leave you two to discuss." Mom said then she went into the study room.

"Why did you agree to this?" I asked.

"Because I needed the cash. Why else?" He replied, rudely.

"How dare you speak to me in that manner!" I said in a commanding tone.

"And if you think I'm afraid of you, then you're wrong. I only agreed to this because I needed money and your mom was polite. Quite the opposite of you. And also, you should be ashamed of yourself. You're such a disappointment to your pare-" I cut him short.

"Okay! I've heard you." I said then I sat down. "Let's get started."

"Alright. We'll start with English. Your mom said your English performance was really poor. I suggest we'll start with the basics." He said.

"Basics? I know the basics." I said, clearly annoyed. "Now listen to me, Jerry. I don't expect to insult me however you want to just 'cause you're my tutor and also know your place so don't tell anyone about this. Understood?"

"Alright.Yeah." He agreed.

"You may continue." I said then he started explaining some things to me and for the first time in a while, I actually understood. Jerry's explanations were so easy and flowing really well.

After Jerry had left, Mom came to me, smiling.

"So how was it?" She asked.

"How was what?" I asked clearly confused.

"The chemistry." She replied.

"What chemistry, Ma?" I asked again. I didn't realize she was referring to Jerry until he, Jerry came back to take his text book. He apologized and left. But part of me knew he hadn't yet gone, he was eavesdropping and I could feel it.

"Don't tell me you don't like him, Darling?" Mom said.

"No. I don't." I replied coldly.

"Oh c'mon, Darling. He is quite the handsome type." Mom commented. "And he's very smart, also well trained."

"Mom!" I exclaimed.

"Darl- " I interrupted Mom.

"Enough of this nonsense. I don't find Jerry attractive and he's way out of my league, like at the bottom. So just stop. I don't need you to choose who I like or don't." I barked and I felt Jerry's presence vanishing. He had left.

"This is about Mr. Brown's son, isn't it?" Mom asked and I was silent.

"You can go after him for all I care, just don't end up being delusional and desperate." She said then she went upstairs.

"But I'm already desperate and delulu." I muttered.

The next few days, Jerry had been tutoring me and I was gradually improving then I realized, I wasn't actually dumb. I was never a dullard, I just... I was just trying so hard not to end up like Dad. Rich and distant from his family. In Dad's world, work came first. I told Jerry about it.

"Um. My... My dad. He... He um... He doesn't really care 'bout me, well that's what I think."

"Why do you think so?"

"He is so focused on his work which IDK about. I don't know his occupation. What exactly is he doing? I have no idea, I'm just frustrated and so tired. That's when everything changed.

I used to be a very diligent student, I was 2nd place in all my classes, I won multiple awards but it was never enough for him. He made me question my worth all the time. He said I wasn't good enough to be his daughter that 2nd place isn't an achievement.

I've traveled to sixteen different countries 'cause of him. When I moved here, I met with someone, a guy actually. I was so interested in him and I was swept off by his feet. I dated him but he changed me. He told me a lot that I needed to hear and also what I never needed to here."

"Is that why you changed your face?"

"Change my face? No, I didn't. I've never been through plastic surgery before."

"But the rumors... And your group name. The Plastics, Barbies?"

"Rumors are rumors. Never believe the rumors without a solid proof. Well, I know that now. Jerry, you've helped me a lot, thank you."

"It's okay. I'm just doing my job. Well, you're fine now and it's all thanks to God. He made you realize your mistakes and He used me to help you which is a good thing. I've always wanted to do good to others and to make them realize their truths also to bring justice."

"Is that why you're studying Journalism?"

"Yeah."

"Then why are you not studying Literature? I thought Literature is one of your key subjects, also Government."

"I'm not really a student here. I'm just here to write my first editorial. Would you like to be the face of my story?"

"Why me?"

"'Cause your story is an inspiring one and also 'cause I'm in love with you."

"What?"
