Chapter 7
Zeno's POV**
"Boss. A message came for you". Herberto said. I was in my study when he came in.
"Who sent it?". I asked, putting my cigar in the ash tray.
"Leonardo Conti". He said, everly slow.
I looked up to him through my lashes, with my eyebrow arching.
"He has killed the Macini's family". He said and at this point my door flung open.
"What of the Macini's family?". Casper came in, asking.
"Where you eavesdropping?". Herberto asked.
"No. I came to tell boss that Martha and Aurora are out to shop". He said, looking at me.
I squinted my eyes. "What do you mean Aurora is out to shop?" I asked him.
"Martha was about to get the groceries for the month as usual, but Aurora insisted on following her, saying something about being sick of staying in here for days and needed fresh air". He explained further.
"Fuck. This girl will be the death of me. Send men to accompany her. And make sure, no harm comes to her". I said.
"Already done boss. Douglas, Enrique, and Gelato went with her". He said, and took a seat infront of me.
Those were among my best shooters.
"Now. What of the Macini's family?". Casper continued with his question.
"My bastard brother, had them killed". I said and took a long snug from my cigar.
"Does she know of this?. I'm sure she doesn't. But are you planning on telling her?". He asked.
I saw he started having this liking towards her. He was scared for her.
"Well, no way in hell I'm telling her, hey princess, wanna know something?. My twin brother had your parents killed". I said to him, with a deadpan look.
"Fine. Boss, I found out something". Casper said, his face looking like he had just remembered an important detail.
"Thomas is not from your father. Your assumption was wrong". He said, looking at me.
"What do you mean?". Herberto asked, reading the question off my mind.
"I mean, I did some background check, like you asked, boss. Thomas is from the Vaccario cartel". He said.
"He worked with my father for over five years. How is he for the Vaccario cartel?". I asked, confusion settling in me.
"Boss, that is something that I want to ask as well". Casper said.
I leaned back into my chair. Aurora might need more protection than I thought.
"Hear the truth from the horse's mouth, but it seems like the horse is dead". Herberto said.
"Boss, one more thing. Sofia". Casper said.
"What is it?". I asked.
"She is also from the Vaccario cartel". He said. What the hell is happening?.
How can Thomas be from the Vaccario cartel?. He was my father's driver for over five years till he resigned.
"Wait?. It makes sense now. You can't resign from any post you held in my father's mafia unless he's the one to relieve you of the position". I said, puzzle beginning to come together.
"That means, he had someone bigger covering up for him. That means he's infiltration into your father's mafia was well known to the don of Vaccario cartel". Casper said, finishing in my thoughts.
"Boss, what do we do?". Herberto asked.
"I had the wrong idea all this time. Since, Thomas was my father's driver and you said you saw him with Sofia, I had imagined Aurora was his. But now, Sofia is from the Vaccario cartel but not the wife to the don, then who is she?. What relationship did she have with the Vaccario cartel that had Thomas at her service for over two decades?". I voiced out my thoughts.
"Boss, I think I had a brain attack". Casper said. This earned a snicker from me.
"You silly child". I looked at him with pure admiration.
"Boss.." . Herberto started.
"No one tells her shit. Understood?". I asked them.
"Yes, capo". They both replied and left my office. "Call Aurora to me when she gets back". I said just as Casper was about to close the door.
He just offered a curt nod as an acknowledgement.
I sat there in my office. Trying my best to solve this shit.
What the hell is going on?. And why is my father silent?.
I looked at the note on the table that was dropped off by Herberto.
He wants Aurora. Funny bastard.
I stood up and went to my large window overlooking the beautiful flowers scattered across the compound.
Only one person in my head. Aurora.
Soon, I saw a black truck driving into the compound and when the truck parked Aurora came down, with a smile on her face and a lot of bags.
I subconsciously eyed her body looking for any physical attack or struggle and found none.
I sat back on my chair when I saw her walk to the direction of the front door. I waited impatiently for her to come in.
Soon, a knock was heard and it eased my impatience.
"Come in". I said and relaxed into my chair, emptying my ahs tray in the trashcan beside my table.
"You sent for me, Zeno". She said, her bottom lips in her mouth.
"Close the door". I said and stood up. I walked to her when she faced the door.
"You want me to protect you, right?". I said, my hand snaked around her thin waist.
"Yes". She said, as she subconsciously put her back to me and threw her head back.
"So you'll tell me where you are going so I'll provide men for you and Martha". I said, my lips on her neck.
"I'm sorry. I..I'll inform you next time". She said and brought her head up. Her eyes meeting with mine.
We stared at each other. Her breath increasing, she occasionally glancing at my lips. I couldn't help it, her lips was right there, few inches away from me.
"What do you want, baby?". I asked her. I saw her swallow. Her eyes begrudgingly tore away from my lips and looked at my eyes.
"I..I don't want anything". She said and glanced at my lips.
I smirked. "Baby, you are lying and your body knows that". I said, as I glanced at her nipples poking out through her cloth.
Her face turned red with embarrassment and she disengaged from me. She cleared her throat and was about to walk past me.
I grabbed her neck, firmly but not enough to hurt.
"Did you go out leaving guys the opportunity to see your breast with a free access?". I said, dangerously low.
"What?". She asked, her breath increasing, as she used her hand to hold my wrist that was on her neck.
"You didn't wear a bra and if by chance your nipples begged for attention outside as they did here, other fuckers will see that". I said, my eyes turning darker.
"How is that your business?". She asked me defiantly.
"I see you are trying to get a reaction out of me but try going out without a bra and I'll have you on a full naked body display in my room, for my attention alone for a week and you won't see the four walls of anything aside this house for a month". I said and let her go.
She was breathing heavily when I finally let her neck go.
"Fuck you, Zeno. Fuck you". She said.
"Your body is mine and mine alone. Don't make other guys pay for your actions when you act contrary to this". I said and turned to seat at my table.
She looked at me, anger all over her face with something else. Desire. Without another word, she left my office.
