Drake and Gildarts' final clash ended in a draw. Drake's Dragon Slayer Secret Art couldn't overcome Gildarts's Crush magic, and Gildarts's attack was extinguished by Drake's flames.
But Drake didn't get the answers he wanted from Gildarts.
Gildarts told Drake that at full power, Drake could rival Gildarts at his prime, but he was still far weaker than the Black Dragon.
The crucial point was that Gildarts wasn't certain how strong Acnologia truly was.
After all, Gildarts was severely injured by Acnologia almost instantly.
While this was partly due to Gildarts underestimating the dragon's ferocity and his own momentary lapse in caution, Acnologia undeniably broke through his Crush magic, demonstrating his superior strength.
Gildarts was unsure of Acnologia's full power and couldn't give Drake a definitive answer.
His only advice was that Drake wasn't strong enough to challenge Acnologia yet.
Drake already knew this; he challenged Gildarts to gauge the gap in their strength.
To thank Gildarts for sparring, Drake crafted new prosthetics for him.
Conveniently, after Drake finished the prosthetics, Mystogan returned to the guild, informing Drake that he had found a way to travel to Edolas.
Drake gathered the guild members and explained Mystogan's situation.
Fairy Tail's spirit is well-known; they'd challenge the heavens for a comrade. Just a kingdom in another world? They immediately shouted about overthrowing Edolas.
To them, Mystogan wasn't just a prince; he was a Fairy Tail S-class mage.
Makarov, cross-legged on the bar, tapped his cane on the counter. "Quiet down!"
Everyone fell silent, awaiting Makarov's instructions.
Makarov looked at Mystogan, whose face was now revealed. "Everyone in this guild is family. When family faces trouble, there's only one answer!"
Natsu breathed fire. "Master, no hesitation!"
Erza looked at Mystogan, whose face was identical to Jellal's, confirming he wasn't the Jellal she knew.
She declared, "A comrade's problem is our problem!"
Wendy nodded; she knew this Jellal had helped her as a child and wanted to repay his kindness.
Carla, however, didn't look pleased.
Makarov announced, "Then it's decided. Fairy Tail will form an expedition to Edolas to help our comrade!"
Everyone cheered. Drake, seeing Carla pulling Wendy away, followed.
Wendy, being pulled by Carla, asked, "Carla, what's wrong?"
Carla's face was serious. "Wendy, I need to tell you something, about me and that tomcat…"
"If you don't mind, I'd like to hear it too," a voice interrupted.
Carla immediately became wary, glaring at Drake, who had suddenly appeared.
Wendy quickly intervened. "Carla, Drake is a guildmate; don't be like that!"
Drake knelt, looking at Carla. "Don't be so tense; I know about you and Happy's origins."
Carla remained unconvinced. "How do you know? Did Mystogan tell you?"
Drake waved his hand dismissively. "My sources are irrelevant."
Wendy asked, "Drake, do you know where Carla and Happy came from?"
Drake replied, "Earthland doesn't have talking, magic-using cats. They're from Edolas; they're called Exceeds."
Carla's expression fell. "That's right, Happy and I are from Edolas, to fulfill a certain purpose… ouch!"
Before Carla could finish, Drake lightly tapped her head.
"Enough with the silly talk! The 'purpose' you're referring to is those occasional images flashing through your mind, isn't it?"
Carla, clutching her head, looked at Drake with a shocked expression.
Drake sighed. "You don't actually believe those are orders from Edolas Exceeds, do you?
Communication magic is basic, but it's not something to be used casually.
Do you understand the immense cost of transmitting information across worlds using communication magic? A world as magically depleted as Edolas couldn't possibly achieve that."
Although Carla was shocked that Drake knew her deepest secret, she was now even more curious about the source of her persistent anxieties.
Drake gently stroked Carla's head. "It's an innate ability you possess, Carla. You have the power of precognition. Those images are fragments of futures you've glimpsed."
Carla, momentarily forgetting to pull away from Drake's touch, looked up at him. "Precognition? Is that really true?"
Wendy quickly chimed in, "Drake wouldn't lie to us! Carla, you have the power of precognition; that's amazing!"
Drake continued, "It's fortuitous that we're going to Edolas; you can figure everything out yourself!
And, Carla, it's not just Wendy; you're a Fairy Tail member now. When you have troubles, you need to learn to rely on your comrades!"
With that, Drake waved his hand, turning back towards the guild. He figured Makarov would have already decided on the expedition team by now.
However… Drake rubbed his hands together thoughtfully. The feel of petting a cat was entirely different from Happy; it was quite pleasant. Perhaps he should seek out an Exceed as a partner as well.
Wendy and Carla quickly followed Drake, returning to the guild hall.
As Drake had anticipated, Makarov had already finalized his decision.
Given that their potential adversary was an entire kingdom, Makarov decided to deploy all of Fairy Tail's elite members.
This included the strongest team—Erza, Natsu, Lucy, and Gray—without question. Gajeel, Juvia, and the newly joined Wendy were also included in the expedition.
Furthermore, the three members of Team Laxus, Elfman, Cana, and several other high-ranking members would also be participating.
With the addition of Mystogan, Happy, and Carla, all of whom hailed from Edolas, Fairy Tail possessed more than enough firepower to potentially overthrow an entire kingdom.
Aside from Gildarts, who had only recently returned and was still recovering from his injuries, and Makarov, who would remain behind to oversee the guild, virtually every elite member of Fairy Tail was being deployed.
And Makarov naturally appointed Drake as the captain of this formidable force.
Amongst all the members of the expedition, only Drake and Erza possessed the necessary level of dependability. Considering Erza's occasional tendency towards absentmindedness, Makarov ultimately decided to entrust Drake with the leadership role.
Drake suddenly spoke up, "Let's also take Mirajane with us."
Although Mirajane had regained her magical abilities during the Harvest Festival, she had primarily been focusing on her duties as a receptionist, and she was quite perplexed as to why Drake would include her in the expedition.
Drake offered her a cryptic smile. "Perhaps… there's a pleasant surprise awaiting you."
