Chapter 321 - Manchester City Vs Arsenal 3

Arsenal's goal clearly frustrated Manchester City.

There was no trick to it. No surprise run from nowhere. Arsenal scored through rhythm, timing, and relentless forward movement.

That was what made it worrying.

It showed that Arsenal's attack worked. It carried real danger.

With Kai pushing forward more frequently, Arsenal's once rigid attacking shape suddenly looked flexible and inventive. Their shooting options multiplied, and their routes into the box became harder to read.

But there was a trade-off.

"When Kai steps up, space opens behind him," David Silva said quietly to Lampard as they walked back toward the center circle. "It is small, but it is there."

"If we catch it at the right moment, we score."

He made a quick slicing motion with his hand.

"One chance. One goal."

Lampard nodded. He saw it the same way.

Arsenal's defensive stability relied heavily on Kai. When he surged forward, and the defensive line failed to connect with the holding midfielders, a window appeared.

Kai's forward thrust gave Arsenal more attacking layers, but it also stretched their defensive balance.

After the celebrations faded, Agüero placed the ball at the center circle.

He could feel the tension from the stands. This match shaped how the season would be judged, and so far, City had not convinced anyone.

Maybe Arsenal were simply excellent today. But excuses did not matter.

They needed a response.

The whistle blew.

David Silva took the first touch and was immediately surrounded. Kai closed from the front. Cazorla stepped in from the side.

The pressure came instantly.

"Back. Back," Lampard shouted.

Silva tried to turn, but a sudden force hit him from behind. He lost balance and fell forward.

Foul

Kai pulled away at once, raising both hands.

The referee arrived quickly and awarded the free kick.

No card.

Kai jogged back without a word.

Silva stayed seated for a moment, staring at Kai's retreating figure, irritated but powerless.

They could not allow Kai to sit deep and control everything. It killed their rhythm.

As much as Silva disliked admitting it, Kai looked even stronger defensively than last season. The pressure never stopped.

A championship did wonders for players.

They needed to force him higher.

The free kick posed little danger. Arsenal marked tightly, almost all man-to-man.

Agüero was the priority, and Kai handled him personally.

Under that attention, Agüero grew restless.

Every match against Arsenal felt the same. Kai denied space, time, and comfort.

It was not just physical; he was losing.

It was awareness. Reading the bounce. Holding position.

The ball came toward Agüero as City tried to switch play.

Kai arrived at the drop almost at the same time.

Agüero went to control it and felt a shoulder hit him. He stumbled. The touch escaped him.

Kai moved first. He stepped around, claimed the ball cleanly, and planted himself between Agüero and possession.

"Move," Agüero snapped, trying to muscle through.

It did nothing.

Kai's balance held. His frame absorbed the contact.

He slipped the ball calmly to Cazorla and jogged forward again, already lifting his head to scan.

Arsenal were attacking once more.

Up in the Sky Sports booth, Martin Taylor summed it up.

"This is why Arsenal look so hard to deal with right now. Even when City tries to respond, they run straight into pressure."

"Manchester City's attack is going nowhere," Alan Smith agreed, shaking his head. "From the opening minutes, they've looked passive. Arsenal's midfield and back line have locked the space down. City can't get into the box, let alone get a clean shot away."

On the pitch, Arsenal kept pushing forward with quick passing and constant movement.

Most of their attacks came in short three-pass patterns, working down the left, through the middle, and out to the right. Every channel revolved around Kai. The ball moved through him again and again.

Kai became the link between the small triangles and the whole team.

Manchester City saw the danger and tried to close him down. It was easier said than done.

Kai stayed calm on the ball, scanning the runs around him and keeping the rhythm steady.

The possession game still worked.

What he lacked was a clear moment to strike. So he kept circulating the ball, dragging City side to side, waiting for a mistake.

Kai played it into Cazorla.

Cazorla turned sharply and tried to drive straight toward the penalty area.

Kai frowned as he saw it.

Too rushed.

Cazorla's decision caught his teammates off guard. City reacted instantly. Kompany stepped in and won the ball cleanly, then launched it long.

Kai turned and sprinted toward Lampard. He judged the distance. If Lampard took a touch, he could get there.

Then Kai froze.

Lampard did not control it. He met the dropping ball first time and swept a diagonal pass forward.

The ball split Mathieu Flamini and the recovering Gibbs. Navas burst forward at full speed.

"Stop him!" Kai shouted.

It was already too late.

Navas took the ball in stride and charged into the penalty area. Koscielny rushed across to close him down.

Navas stayed composed and squared the ball into the middle.

Aguero and Mustafi went shoulder to shoulder as they attacked it.

Aguero reached it first. He hooked the ball under control and twisted hard, using his strength to spin away from Mustafi.

For a split second, Aguero, Mustafi, and Arsenal goalkeeper Navas were all in the same space. Navas lost sight of the ball.

Then it flashed past Mustafi's shoulder toward the right post.

Navas reacted late, threw himself across, and got fingertips to it. He could not keep it out.

The ball kissed the post and bounced into the net.

Forty minutes played. Manchester City were level.

Alan Smith reacted immediately. "That's Aguero. Pure quality. One chance, one moment, and he delivers."

Martin Taylor followed. "It all comes from his individual ability. Strength, balance, and composure under pressure."

The City commentator in the stadium roared in celebration. City fans leapt to their feet. The Etihad, quiet for long stretches, exploded in noise.

All because of that goal.

Manchester City had equalized.

"Tsk," Kai stopped with his hands on his hips. He shook his head.

This was the issue.

When he pushed too high and could not recover, City needed only one clean counter to hurt Arsenal.

He was not blaming the defenders.

But without his presence in front to slow the play and disrupt the rhythm, the back line struggled on its own.

Against a fast break, confusion came quickly.
