Chapter 1 - prologue

The wind blew gently on his face carrying with it the scent of mint and tobacco. He had been running for as long as he could remember. His memories, still fuzzy, couldn't get the information from his early years, they could only go as far as three years.

He was on the edge.

"Why was I running? who are these ' believers '? Why can't my memories come back? what is my purpose in all this?" He thought to himself.

"All those I knew, it all seemed like a predestined way for me to walk in" he thought, " no, I must not let my faith be troubled, I should fulfill my cause at all cost"

He reached out with his fingers on the left arm to hold the ankh that had been dangling at his wrist for the longest time, his only companion in this life. It was supposed to be what guided him through his troubles and to make the next vortex, but now, it seems to have lost its charm, it looked nothing more than a steel ornament"

His faith was the only lingering attachment to it. Under a muffled breath, he said " Guide my path, let the light show me the vortex, and as I reach this end, let my sacrifice invoke the faith of the supreme one."

He took a step closer.

The building was high, a tad too high. He knew this would be his end. He didn't know what to live for, but was certain what to die for. It was all in the texts of the house of his lord. The night was rapidly turning into something else. The city below him was still bright with all the lights flashing below him. The fear of death was a foreign concept. He had been taught about it.

Behind him, the door to the rooftop opened. His pursuer was here, he was clothed in a well fitting suit without the coat but a buckled vest, on it, he had a sheath strapped to his back that gave off a professional killer vybe.

"Enough of the chase Adam, just let me do my job.

Hand over the ankh and I might just make your death painless" the man said in a rather deep voice to Adam who barely gave the words a thought.

He turned to face the man who was at a reasonable distance that was decreasing with each step this man took.

" Maybe in another life" Adam said as he took the step to fulfill his cause. A leap of faith. An untainted sacrifice.

The killer, wearing a rather calm expression, seemed to faze to a distance inches close to Adam and a blade on his hands.

The blood spluttered as Adam fell. A clean cut at the wrist where the ankh was tied. Its steel composition made a *ting* as it met the floor at the edge. Time seemed to slow down for Adam. "I didn't have much to live for, now even my death that was supposed to be perfect, was meaningless? I'm missing a limb, and the only connection to my Lord, no....No.....NO...FUCK NOOOO IT ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS!!!! GIVE ME MY LIFE BACK!"

The air was cold, his red hair flaring upwards, his thoughts mixed up. Meaningless, was the prominent word in every thought. The building grew taller in his eyes and the city lights grew brighter. His reflection on the building windows portrayed a middle aged man with a fit physique that was leaning towards buff. His olive green custom suit and a full red orange shirt made his features rather defined. On the suit he had replaced the coat with a dark hooded cloak that was currently running a mock against the wind.

This is the end. With a loud splatter on the ground and the mysterious killer's puff on his cigarette, it was sealed.
