Famous Locations of the Kingdom and Some Interesting Facts About Them

The Kingdom; there is no other nation, no other kingdom or domain. Once there were many, but they united into one under the banner of the kingdom of Lo'Gran over a thousand years ago when King Ornan—now widely known as "the First King"—accepted the guidance of the first Herald and the Angels.

The Academy of the Heavenly is the most prestigious place of education in all of the Kingdom. It is known for harboring many talents in many different fields of knowledge, such as the arts, politics, economics, medicine, and, most importantly, magic. It is located in the city of Atarkan.

It is widely known as the only place of study for aspiring priests.

It was constructed according to the will of the Angels during the time of the second Herald, who oversaw much of the expansion of the Priesthood almost a thousand years ago.

Atarkan is the second-largest city in the known world, located over a hundred miles from the coast of Zuria. Just north of it lie the great Northern Mountains.

The citizens of Atarkan—or Atarkaneen, as they like to call themselves—aren't as united as one might think. The population is divided in two: the wealthy artisans, merchants, scholars, and nobles who flock to the city in search of benefit from the Academy of the Heavenly and its position as the convergence of all roads in the Kingdom; and the much poorer farmers, loggers, and miners, whose labor sustains both the city and the Academy, though they benefit from neither.

The Northern Mountains are an impassable wall that span from west to east and potentially as north as north goes. No man who has dared to try traverse their vast slopes has ever been heard of since.

The Coasts of Zuria, named after a kingdom which has long since fallen into obscurity, as it swore fealty to the Kingdom of Lo'Gran, much like the rest of the human kingdoms during and after the extermination of the Wildkin.

The coasts span from the Bay of Ca'Leth until and just past the Isle of Deren. It lies on the Southern Sea.

Lo'Gran is the capital city of the Kingdom and the largest city in the known world. It lies on the Bay of Ca'Leth, and it once served as the final bastion of humanity against the devouring Wildkin and the near-extinction of humanity.

Both the monarchy and the Priesthood have their headquarters in the city; it is the de facto administrative capital of the known world.

Bay of Ca'Leth, named after the first Herald—the name was given to her in a dream by the Angel, who had visited her—is often considered to be the cradle of human civilization, for along its coast once rose numerous grand cities and smaller kingdoms; though now only Lo'Gran and Er'Eren remain of these grand cities.

Er'Eren is the third largest city of the Kingdom, and is known for its important role as a port and fishing city. Many goods arriving via ships from the far western parts of the Kingdom first stop by it.

The Isle of Tarshi is a massive island in the Southern Sea, far in the South-Western parts of the Kingdom. In ancient mythology, it is known as the place of origin of all humanity. It is said that humanity departed it in search of safety, because of volcanic activity, and so-called "Fire Mountains."

Though there aren't many signs of early human settlements on the island, to confirm that it might have been the home of the early humans.

The island is known for its abundance of obsidian and gemstones.

The Three Peaks are the tallest mountains in the known world; they reach so far above the world that some believe them to touch the moon as it passes. It is known to be the heavenly home of the Angels. They lie just east of the Bay of Ca'Leth, and tower over the world, as well as the Great Desert to the south of them.

Along its slopes, the first Herald long ago, intent on suicide after the death of her husband and children by the Wildkin, was approached by the Angel, who bestowed her a blessing instead, though with a great cost. With this blessing, she repelled and took vengeance against the Wildkin. And with a hundred or so others, who later accepted the Angel's blessing, exterminated the Wildkin threat, saving all of humanity in the process.

The Great Desert is a vast emptiness where nothing lives. Once it was green and populated by all kinds of life, such as humans who had built many cities and settlements there. But when the Wildkin came from somewhere further south, they ushered all of humanity into despair, collapsing the known world into chaos. They devoured as they came closer and closer, until they were defeated near the Three Peaks in a great battle.

No one has ever crossed the desert, and many believe that it continues forever, only showing more and more lands ruined by the Wildkin.

The Fortress lies between the Bay of Ca'Leth, the Three Peaks, and the Great Desert. It was built on top of the location of the great battle. Its purpose is twofold: To defend the Kingdom from whatever or whoever might cross the desert and reach it. And perhaps more importantly, to train priests into future inquisitors.

Swamp Lands lie a hundred or so miles north of the Three Peaks. They are lands where no permanent settlements are built because of the harsh conditions. Only small, moving camps manned by Peat Harvesters.

Herelt is the largest city in the far north-western parts of the Kingdom. It lies on the banks of Lake Ushantra. The city is known for its talented fishermen.

Lake Ushantra is a massive lake in the north-western parts of the Kingdom. It offers great prosperity to Herelt and the many villages and smaller settlements near it. It was named after a woman who would rather drown in its deep waters than be killed or raped by soldiers during the Brother's False Crowning.
