Dai Chengfeng's spirits lifted, and he quickly darted behind the large velvet floor-to-ceiling curtains. Holding his breath and suppressing his aura, he waited like a hunter lying in wait for his prey to step into the trap.
Squeak—
A soft creak echoed as the heavy, ornate palace door was pushed open.
Bibi Dong, clad in her luxurious purple papal robes, wearing a violet-gold crown, and holding her scepter, walked in slowly.
Her face bore traces of fatigue, and her brows still carried the lingering thoughts and authority from the meeting she had just attended.
Clearly, the meeting had lasted a long time, consuming much of her mental energy.
She habitually reached back to close the palace door but suddenly paused.
The exquisite flare of her nose twitched slightly, and a flicker of confusion passed through her deep purple eyes.
Something was off.
The scent in the air… had changed.
It was no longer the familiar cold incense but… a rich, natural floral fragrance mixed with… the aroma of food?
And a faint trace, almost imperceptible… of that rebellious disciple's presence?
Instantly, Bibi Dong became alert, her weariness swept away. Her gaze turned sharp as she swiftly scanned the entire bedchamber.
Then, she froze completely.
What met her eyes were the vibrant roses beside the dressing table, the elegant lilies on the small table by the window, and the unknown flowers emitting a subtle fragrance at the bedside…
In the center of the room, on the round table, exquisite dishes were arranged, candle stands stood silently nearby, and a bottle of obviously expensive red wine along with two crystal goblets awaited use.
This… what was going on?
Who dared to enter her private chambers without permission and make such… arrangements?
The female guards wouldn't dare be so bold!
One name instantly surged into her mind.
Dai Chengfeng!
Who else but that unruly, audacious disciple would dare do something like this?!
Had he come? And arrived early? Secretly prepared all this?
Could it be that he truly took her reluctant promise from earlier today… seriously?
And was so… so eager to fulfill it?
Bibi Dong's cheeks flushed uncontrollably, the rosy hue spreading all the way to the back of her ears.
The memory of being persistently pressured and coerced in the Pope's Hall until she finally yielded in embarrassment resurfaced, filling her with intense shame and… an indescribable flutter in her heart.
Standing at the doorway, she felt momentarily at a loss.
Should she go in?
Face this meticulously arranged, suggestive scene?
Or should she turn around and leave immediately?
Her gaze swept over the flowers, wine, and delicacies again… and her anger unconsciously dissipated somewhat, replaced by a complex mix of emotions.
This rebellious disciple… had actually… put thought into it?
She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart and regain her composure as the Pope. She sternly called out:
"Come out!"
Her voice echoed through the silent bedchamber, though it trembled slightly, almost imperceptibly.
No response came.
Only the evening breeze blowing in from the window gently stirred the curtains.
Bibi Dong narrowed her violet eyes, her piercing gaze locking onto the slightly swaying thick curtain.
She sensed it—a presence she was all too familiar with. Though it was concealed as much as possible, how could it escape her notice entirely?
"I'll say it one last time. Come out!"
Her voice grew colder, filled with unyielding command.
From behind the curtain came a soft laugh tinged with flattery.
Then, the curtain was pulled aside, and Dai Chengfeng stepped out, his face radiant with a mischievous smile. His sparkling eyes gazed at her, devoid of any hint of awkwardness from being caught hiding.
"Teacher, you're back?"
He grinned cheerfully, as if he'd only done something trivial. "Was the meeting tiring?"
"Seeing that it was so late and you hadn't returned, I figured you must be hungry. So, I took the liberty of having some food prepared."
"And these flowers—I saw they were blooming beautifully in the garden, so I picked some to bring life to your room. Do you like them?"
As he spoke, he naturally approached Bibi Dong, smoothly taking the scepter symbolizing supreme authority from her hands and placing it on the nearby weapon rack. Then, quite naturally, he reached out to help her remove her elaborate and ornate papal robe.
Instinctively, Bibi Dong stepped back half a pace, avoiding his hand. Her cheeks reddened further, and she scolded him angrily:
"Who gave you permission to do all this?!"
"This is my private chamber! How dare you arrange it so freely? And who allowed you to hide here?!"
Dai Chengfeng immediately adopted a look of grievance, blinking his eyes: "Teacher, you clearly promised me earlier… I was just… waiting for you ahead of time."
"I was afraid of disturbing you by coming too early, so I thought I'd surprise you…"
As he spoke, his gaze swept over the dishes on the table, his tone growing even more "pitiful."
"Just look, the food is almost getting cold. I've reheated it several times, hoping you'd return and eat while it's hot."
Bibi Dong followed his gaze. The dishes were indeed arranged exquisitely, clearly prepared with great care.
Her eyes then moved over the flowers. The mingling scents of flowers and food wafted through the air, dispelling her fatigue and the oppressive feeling from the meeting.
Looking at Dai Chengfeng's expression, which seemed to beg for praise while feigning innocence, her anger inexplicably melted away, leaving only a sense of helplessness and… a subtle ripple from being treated with such thoughtfulness.
This rebellious disciple always knew how to infuriate her, yet also always managed to… soften her heart.
She took a deep breath, trying to ignore her racing heartbeat and burning cheeks, and spoke in as calm a tone as possible:
"When did I ever agree to… agree to any of this?"
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. It was like trying to cover up something obvious.
Sure enough, Dai Chengfeng immediately leaned closer, almost pressing against her. He lowered his head, his heated breath brushing against her sensitive earlobe and neck, his voice low and filled with seductive laughter:
"Teacher… you are the Pope, your words are golden. How can you go back on your word?"
"You clearly said 'tonight… come to my room'… and added 'just once'… I heard every word clearly, not missing a single one."
His fingertips lightly brushed against the collar of her papal robe.
Bibi Dong shuddered as if electrified, abruptly slapping his hand away. Her voice trembled:
"You… how dare you!"
"Disciple wouldn't dare."
Dai Chengfeng obediently stepped back half a pace, but his gaze grew even more intense as he stared at her. "Teacher, you're tired and hungry. Won't you have something to eat first?"
"All of this is what you love."
Bibi Dong looked into Dai Chengfeng's expectant eyes, where her own flustered and embarrassed reflection was clearly visible.
She realized that tonight, it seemed… she was inescapably doomed.
