Chapter 147: Opening Ceremony
The first class for Amegakure students was a lecture by the principal, Nonō Yakushi. Only after she finished discussing all the important points would the lead teachers for each class and grade take the children away.
The head teacher for the first grade was Mei Terumi, responsible for teaching the most basic chakra refining techniques. Children at this age weren't as destructive, but they were still quite troublesome. Kakashi often saw Mei Terumi fall asleep on her bed as soon as she returned.
Sometimes she would even complain to Kakashi.
"You said you'd let me be the Mizukage, so why am I a teacher now?"
"Leading ninja is similar to leading children. If you can't even lead children, how can you lead ninja?"
"Those are two completely different things, alright?"
The head teacher for the second grade was Konan. She had retired from the front lines of refugee care to the school. With the end of the great war, refugees gradually decreased, and many of the remaining ones became troublesome bandits. Nagato, with his stronger deterrent power, was more suitable for convincing these individuals to surrender.
The head teacher for the third grade was Uchiha Shisui. This was a candidate strongly put forward by the Uchiha clan, who insisted on having an Uchiha clan member as a teacher. Originally, this position was meant for Obito, but since Obito was in charge of leading Amegakure's Anbu, the position was given to Shisui. It wasn't just Amegakure making an effort; the Uchiha clan was also striving to integrate into Amegakure. They didn't wish to experience a nomadic life again, and with the improved climate, they had already gained a sense of belonging here.
Others, such as Sara, had already become the leader of Medical Squad Two, while Medical Squad One's leader was Rin Nohara. The overall supervisor was still Nonō Yakushi; she often juggled multiple roles and was overwhelmed, but her face always wore a smile. She liked her current life, not the spy life she once led.
The only person who held a high-level position without any formal role was Hatake Kakashi. There was also Yahiko, who occupied the leader's position but gave no notifications, acting as if retired—he had given all his work to Obito, reasoning that since the latter was now in charge of the Anbu, he might as well handle everyday matters too.
At this moment, Hatake Kakashi, the Uchiha Clan Head, and Yahiko were carrying out an exceptionally tricky mission: receiving Konohagakure's Fourth Hokage, his wife, the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki, and their three-year-old son, along with a large retinue of accompanying ninja.
Had the Fourth Hokage not sent someone to notify them in advance, the people of Amegakure would have thought they had come to wage a war of annihilation.
"Where's Obito?"
The Uchiha Clan Head didn't see Obito. He had notified him this morning to come and greet the arrival of the Fourth Hokage—as the Fourth Hokage's student.
"Rin Nohara didn't come either."
"Obito must have held her back."
"Those two are really unreliable."
"They're probably afraid to see their sensei."
"I'm not afraid."
Kakashi stood on the walls of Amegakure, seeing the golden hair from afar, and the sensei's wife beside him.
"Uchiha Clan Head, how about you and Yahiko meet them, and I'll go to the school first?"
"No way."
Fugaku and Yahiko both rejected Kakashi, with the latter even holding his shoulder to prevent him from escaping.
"You just said you weren't afraid."
"I'm really not afraid, but this isn't about being afraid or not."
The silver-haired young man was helpless; he had already seen Uzumaki Kushina holding Naruto in her right arm, and her left hand starting to wind up a punch.
Namikaze Minato stood beside her, smiling awkwardly.
Behind them followed a green-clad, bowl-cut individual whose teeth gleamed in the sunlight, walking upside down like a bizarre creature.
What kind of group is this?
"Yo!!! Kakashi!!!"
The green-clad, bowl-cut individual vaulted up using his hands, reaching the wall before everyone else.
"First!!!"
"Who is this guy?"
"You know him?"
Yahiko and Fugaku both looked at Kakashi. The former hadn't heard of this guy, while the latter knew there was a genin in the village named Might Duy, and wondered if this wasn't his son.
"Might Guy…"
"Yo Kakashi, you still remember me!! This is the friendship of youth!! This is youth!!!"
Kakashi raised his hand. Might Guy thought he was going for a high-five and raised his own hand, but Kakashi ignored him, walked down from the wall, and waved to Namikaze Minato and his group.
The green-clad, bowl-cut individual froze on the spot.
"As expected of Kakashi, he heavily wounded me with such a simple move…"
Truly, upon seeing this group, the silver-haired young man wore his long-unseen dead-fish eyes. If there was anyone among them he wished to see, it was only Naruto, the protagonist of the original work. However, he wasn't the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki now, so it was truly exciting to anticipate how far he would grow, inheriting his father's talent and Uzumaki Kushina's chakra.
"Sensei, Sensei's wife."
Compared to Kakashi's aloofness, his sensei and his wife were much more enthusiastic. For instance, the wind from Kushina's punch ruffled his silver hair; if he hadn't dodged in time, that punch would have certainly left him aching for days.
"Not bad reflexes."
She casually withdrew her fist. The child in her arms had already met Kakashi's gaze.
That gaze truly had the aura of a protagonist: calm, as if accustomed to grand spectacles.
Except he didn't resemble Naruto at all.
Still, he had to ask.
"Sensei, is this your child?"
"Yes, his name is Namikaze Naruto."
Namikaze Minato wore his iconic sunny smile, his Hokage robes fluttering in the wind.
[So it's Namikaze Naruto, not Namikaze Menma…]
"Today happens to be the Amegakure Ninja Academy's opening ceremony. Would you like to come and see it together?"
Yahiko extended an invitation to the Konoha group.
"Sounds good."
Uzumaki Kushina accepted on behalf of her husband, simultaneously placing Naruto on the ground. Naruto didn't run around, simply staying by his mother's side.
"Regarding trade between Amegakure and Konoha…"
"Military exchanges between Amegakure and Konoha…"
"Next month's Chūnin Exams…"
Kakashi remained silent and uninvolved in all these political issues; these were problems for Uchiha Fugaku and Yahiko to resolve…
"Where are Obito and Rin?"
"They should be there too."
Upon arriving at the school, the enrollment ceremony had already begun. From a high vantage point, Nonō Yakushi saw the Fourth Hokage and his group, showing a fleeting surprise before returning to her normal demeanor.
Below the stage, Obito and Rin also saw Namikaze Minato and Kushina. This was the first time Minato's squad had reunited entirely since their parting at Kannabi Bridge, fortunately not under hostile circumstances.
"Rin, was it that boy Obito who brought you to Amegakure?"
"No, I didn't, don't talk nonsense."
Obito's slightly flustered appearance was exactly as Kushina remembered.
