Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 8

Grey's eyes darkened as he recalled the incident where Kairah was bullied by Maine, the Headmaster's daughter. He had wanted to intervene, to protect her from the hurtful words and actions, but his parents' warnings had held him back.

"Don't mess with the Headmaster's daughter," they had said. "It's not worth the trouble."

Grey's fists clenched as he thought about the situation. He had stood frozen, unable to do anything as Kairah suffered at Maine's hands. The memory still haunted him, fueling his desire to make things right.

If only he could find a way to protect Kairah without crossing his parents... But for now, the regret lingered, a bitter taste in his mouth.

Grey's eyes fluttered closed, and he drifted off to sleep. But his rest was short-lived, as a dark and vivid nightmare gripped him.

In the dream, the world was in ruins. Cities lay in ashes, and the skies were filled with an otherworldly darkness. People screamed and ran, desperate to escape the destruction.

Grey tried to fight back, to use his elemental powers to save the world. But no matter what he did, the devastation only spread. He felt helpless, powerless.

As the nightmare reached its climax, Grey's eyes snapped open. He sat up with a start, his heart racing. It took him a moment to realize it was just a dream.

He let out a shaky breath and rubbed his temples. "Just a nightmare," he told himself. But the image of the world's destruction lingered, leaving him with a sense of unease.

As the school gates swung open, signaling the start of a new semester, Kairah walked through the crowded hallways with an air of confidence that was hard to ignore. She carried a small bag containing the roots she had gathered, her mission to deliver them to the Headmaster clear in her mind.

The transformation in Kairah was striking. Her nightly training with the fairies had honed her elemental powers, and it showed in the way she moved with purpose and poise. But it wasn't just her abilities that had undergone a change; her appearance had also been subtly enhanced.

Her skin glowed with a radiant health, her eyes sparkled like gemstones in the morning light, and her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of night. Every student she passed by couldn't help but stare, their mouths agape in amazement.

Maine, the Headmaster's daughter, and her friends were no exception. They stood by their lockers, sipping coffee and chatting, when Kairah walked by. Maine's eyes narrowed as she took in Kairah's stunning appearance.

"Whoa, look at her," one of Maine's friends whispered, her voice full of envy. "She's... wow."

Maine's gaze lingered on Kairah, her expression a mix of surprise and annoyance. She seemed to be sizing Kairah up, wondering what had caused the sudden change.

As Kairah approached the Headmaster's office, she exuded an aura of calm and strength, her beauty and power commanding attention from everyone around her. Little did they know, this was just the beginning of her journey.

The Headmaster's eyes widened in shock as Kairah handed her the roots. "You... you're still alive?" she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kaira nodded, a hint of a smile on her face. "Yes, ma'am. I'm here to deliver the roots as requested."

The Headmaster's gaze lingered on Kairah, her expression a mix of amazement and unease. She couldn't believe that Kairah had not only survived but had also managed to obtain the rare roots.

As she took the roots from Kairah, her hands trembled slightly. She was impressed by Kairah's strength and determination, but a part of her felt threatened. Maine, her own daughter, was supposed to be the one with the potential for greatness, not Kairah.

The Headmaster's eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at Kairah. She couldn't help but feel a pang of insecurity, wondering if Kairah's abilities would overshadow Maine's. She pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand.

"Thank you, Kairah," she said, her voice a little softer. "You've done well. I'll make sure to process these roots immediately."

Kaira nodded, her eyes sparkling with a hint of pride. She had accomplished her task, and she felt a sense of satisfaction. Little did she know, the Headmaster's true intentions were far more complex than she could imagine.

As Kairah walked away from the Headmaster's office, she noticed Maine and her friends bullying Kelly, her best friend. Kelly's eyes were red from crying, and her books were scattered all over the floor.

Kaira's expression darkened, her anger simmering just below the surface. She hadn't seen Kelly in a while, and it broke her heart to see her friend being treated like this.

Without hesitation, Kairah strode towards Maine and her friends. "Leave her alone," she said, her voice firm and commanding.

Maine sneered at Kairah. "Or what? You'll report me to Mommy?"

Kaira's eyes flashed with anger. She raised her hand, and the earth responded to her power. Roots burst forth from the ground, wrapping around Maine and her friends.

"Ahh!" Maine screamed as the roots constricted, holding her in place.

The students around them gasped in shock. Grey and Luke, who were standing nearby, exchanged a stunned glance.

"Whoa, did she just...?" Grey whispered, his eyes wide with amazement.

Luke's face was pale. "No one's ever stood up to Maine like that before."

As the students watched, Kairah's magic continued to hold Maine and her friends captive. Maine struggled and cursed, but Kairah's power was too strong.

"Let her go!" one of Maine's friends shouted, but Kairah didn't budge.

Finally, Kairah released her magic, and the roots retreated back into the earth. Maine and her friends stumbled back, rubbing their bruised limbs.

Maine's face was twisted in rage. "You're going to pay for this, Kairah!"

Kaira smiled calmly. "I'm not afraid of you."

The students cheered, whispering to each other about Kairah's incredible powers. Grey and Luke watched, their expressions a mix of awe and curiosity.

"Looks like Kairah's not someone to be messed with," Grey said, a hint of admiration in his voice.

Luke nodded, his eyes fixed on Kairah. "Yeah, she's definitely not ordinary."

Kelly's eyes were wide with shock as she stared at Kairah. "Kaira, you're... you're amazing!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling.

Kaira smiled and gently took Kelly's hands. She focused her earth elemental power, and a soft, green glow emanated from her palms. Kelly's wounds began to heal at an incredible rate, the bruises fading away like magic.

The students around them gasped in amazement. "How did she do that?" someone whispered. "She's just a beginner!"

Grey's eyes were fixed on Kairah, his expression a mix of awe and curiosity. "Creating healing potions is supposed to be one of the most difficult skills to master, even for Rank S heroes," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Luke's gaze was intense, his interest in Kairah piqued. "I need to get to know her better," he said to Grey, his voice low.

Grey raised an eyebrow. "You think she's that interesting?"

Luke nodded. "Yeah, I do. She's got potential, and I want to see how far she can go."

As they watched, Kairah finished healing Kelly's wounds. Kelly threw her arms around Kairah, tears of gratitude streaming down her face.

"Thank you, Kairah! I'm so sorry I didn't stand up for you earlier," Kelly said, her voice muffled against Kairah's shoulder.

Kaira hugged Kelly back, smiling. "You don't have to apologize, Kelly. I'm just glad I could help."

The students around them began to whisper and murmur, their voices filled with excitement and curiosity. Kairah's reputation was spreading like wildfire, and it seemed like everyone wanted to know more about the mysterious girl with the earth elemental power.
