Chapter 4 - Serenity - 04

Closing the door behind him, my husband finally cut into the woman's speech as he plastered himself beside me.

"Wait, so you said your gamer tag's what? Underworld queen-something-something? I mean, I play tons of games but I really think you've got the wrong person."

"Oh, stop kidding yourself! We both know I can tell when you're lying! Hahaha!" She exaggerated her arms' movements, placing one on my husband's shoulder by the end of her act. He tugged away and stood even closer to me, somewhat calming my anxiety with his warmth.

"My wife… is the only one who can tell that." he gently wrapped his arms around my torso, promising me I was his wife. His only love.

"I should come clean…" I… I couldn't speak well. My mouth just wouldn't -

"What's that, honey?" "Huh? Oh, no. I just thought I'd go upstairs to clean!"

"Now? But I…" he stumbled, being nervous about the whole situation. I couldn't blame him. I couldn't blame anyone but myself lately.

"I don't mind!" The woman, Olive, blurted out.

"Are you sure?" my husband asked me.

"Yeah… You two have fun." Making my way up the stairs and into the game room, I easily exhausted all languages' worth of curses and slurs. How? HOW?! My address, name, date of birth, had all been private on my account. There was no way she'd know! No way she'd-

"Oh God. God, God GOD! It really… this can't be happening. Please!" Turning on the VR glasses, it took minutes for me to scroll through my messages. All 01 of them… My body's shivering made it difficult to, well, to do anything.

1 unread message from Underworldqueen04 - "Knock. Knock!"

"Fuc-" I threw the glasses on the couch and sprinted out of the room, leaving the door swinging behind me. One. Two. Three. Four…. Ten… twenty… a hundred… The infinite staircase deluded my brain into thinking I'd been running in place for hours. Running out of time, as my leaky pores swore up and down I'd drown. Drown in sweat, sorrows and a thousand regrets. And unlike me, pores told no lies. Turning the last corner of the endless fall of stairs, my eyes gifted me with an unforgettable scene. My pupils, now tattooed with the ink of regret, ensured to hold my body, and even my sweat, statued in place, so that my tears could freely translate the scene. The woman, Olive, my… girlfriend, leaned upon my husband, with her lips pressed against his, allowing her tongue to ravage his mouth, while her eyes took his soul, and her hands, his.

"Muh! I don't… get off me! You need to BDOOP leave now!!I BDOOP don't know BDOOP her! THROB Is- I swear!"

My heart spoke a little too vociferously for me to guide my ears to what my husband said, but even with the blurriness, even through the tears…I got the picture. And he was telling the truth. It was…on me to follow suit. With the first step towards them, I made up my mind; I'd tell the truth. With the second step, I finally invoked the will to speak. With the third step, I prayed. Prayed that with the fourth step, this nightmare would end. And with that fateful step, through the blurred sounds of my husband's yelling, I finally spoke the truth.

"It's… It's okay. I can expla-" I couldn't do it…anxiety's sharp stabbing pain, now physical, made it impossible to breathe, much less speak such a damning truth. A second, third and fourth piercing throb called my body to the floor, and my legs answered, thrusting me flat down on my face, into a pool of crimson red sweat. No, this… I… Was-

"Oh, don't worry about it! It's a silenced gun. God! You probably feel so good getting rid of that tram-"

Shot…

"I… I'm sorr-" My mouth… weakness washed over my body and mind, leaving my spirit to fend for itself. I wanted to… apologize. I did some…bad things, but-

"Cough!" An unbearable pain shot through my body, like worms made of needles reaching through my bloodstream. My husband forced some pretty woman to the ground.

"Ha..ha" "Cough!!" With no regard for my drowning, my heart pumped more and more blood under me.

"Mar—- - - !!!" Did he call me? I… it's so… Oh, I get it…

"Cough!!". My husband really…outdid himself with the new… glasses.

"Ha..haha! Argh" Blood replaced my speech… replaced my laughter, and barely allowed my breathing.

"Please!! No!! Ple-" Huh? Oh...My husband must have caved in… and

"Cough! Coug- ahhh hu mh" played Serenity with me.

These glasses are "- so…realistic.."

"No. No. Don't talk, please just. No!! Why is this-"

"So… realistic..." For a second there I… really thought I was… gonna di-
