Chapter 189 - Chapter 188: The Mountains Were Almost Shaved Flat!

Just as C encountered the Fourth Raikage and his group, Uchiha Itachi and Kimimaro Kaguya had rushed to deliver the victorious news to Sougen. At that moment, the Konoha forces, already prepared and awaiting orders, immediately set off. Braving the wind and snow, they dashed toward the Kusatsu Mountains.

The sudden onset of snow caught everyone off guard. No one expected snow to fall in the normally warm Land of Hot Water. Thankfully, the snowfall wasn't heavy and did not hinder the army's march.

Thus, from the north and the south, the two forces converged.

The Cloud Ninjas advanced south, while Konoha marched north.

Both armies headed toward the Kusatsu Mountains, a region repeatedly ravaged by war.

The Cloud reinforcements arrived first. However, when the Fourth Raikage and his team arrived, they were greeted by the sight of countless fallen Cloud Ninja bodies and a small but fearless and battle-ready group of Konoha Shinobi.

Facing off, the two armies—north and south—stared each other down. Konoha had fewer than 300 troops, having suffered heavy losses earlier. Meanwhile, the Cloud Ninjas boasted a force of over 6,000.

The difference in strength was a staggering 20-to-1.

However, despite the overwhelming odds, it was Konoha that struck first.

A massive green Susanoo rose from the ground, and not just any form—it was the fully developed fourth stage. Not only was it fully armored, but its lower body and legs had formed as well. Compared to its earlier forms, this fourth stage of Susanoo was not only complete in appearance but also significantly larger.

Shisui stood within the head of Susanoo, from which he could gaze down at the massive Cloud Ninja army below.

And then:

Yasaka Magatama!

In Susanoo's left hand, six jade-green magatama appeared, which were then hurled with tremendous force into the densest part of the Cloud Ninja formation.

How could they withstand the Cloud Ninja's counterattack?

Shisui had pondered this. With only 200 soldiers, it would be difficult to fend off the inevitable counterattack from the numerous and skilled Cloud Ninja. Even the Uchiha clan members couldn't fight ten-to-one. Even if they could, they'd still only manage to hold off 2,000.

But the Cloud had far more than 2,000 troops.

After careful consideration, and with the Samehada sword Sougen had given him, Shisui made a decision.

Thus, this opening bombardment came to fruition.

A, the Fourth Raikage, saw this and his eyes turned red with rage. The thought of the potential casualties from those high-density chakra projectiles—similar to Tailed Beast Bombs—landing in their ranks made his heart ache.

Luckily, his brother, Killer Bee, the Eight-Tails Jinchuriki, reacted swiftly. He immediately fully transformed into the Eight-Tails, a colossal mountain-like beast, flattening a swath of forest. He swung his eight octopus-like tails, forming a shield that intercepted the six magatama.

As a result, two of the Eight-Tails' tails were blown off. However, as a Tailed Beast made of chakra, such injuries were trivial. The severed tails quickly reattached themselves, seamlessly blending back into the body, as good as new.

"Everyone, scatter!" A bellowed.

His command was swiftly relayed down the ranks, and the already scattered formations spread even further. It was necessary—between Shisui and Killer Bee, Susanoo and the Eight-Tails, their gigantic forms took up so much space that any stray movement would cause massive destruction.

Being too close would be suicidal.

What made it worse was that gathering their forces together would only make them sitting ducks for Susanoo's pinpoint attacks.

With fewer than 300 men, Konoha was a much smaller target. Meanwhile, the Cloud's 6,000-strong army was an obvious and far larger target. A was infuriated, nearly spitting blood from frustration. Shisui's sudden attack had caught them completely off guard. Even A couldn't believe that just 200 men dared to strike first... Uchiha arrogance, indeed!

Even Tutai was pale with rage.

He was furious at his own carelessness and overconfidence, while also awed by Susanoo's immense power. Despite believing he had adequately prepared for the Uchiha's prowess, seeing the might of the Sharingan firsthand made him realize he'd still underestimated it.

Meanwhile, the two colossal forces—Susanoo and the Eight-Tails—clashed ferociously.

Susanoo's spiraled sword sliced through the snowy veil, severing two more of the Eight-Tails' tails. But at the same time, the Eight-Tails landed a heavy punch on Susanoo's left arm, forcing it back two steps.

Blood trickled down Shisui's face.

His eyes throbbed with sharp, stabbing pain, tormenting his mind. While Susanoo's power was immense, it came with an equally immense chakra drain. Without Samehada continually replenishing him, Shisui would never have chosen this direct, brute-force approach.

However—

Using Kotoamatsukami in the previous battle had been worthwhile. The Eight-Tails was the only one fighting him; the Two-Tails had not shown up.

Of course, everything has a price. His use of Kotoamatsukami to alter the Two-Tails Jinchuriki's will had been discovered by the Cloud. Shisui had implanted a belief in the Jinchuriki's mind that valued peace and despised conflict. Shisui knew well the drastic change this would cause, and it was only a matter of time before the Cloud noticed something was wrong.

Thus, the Eight-Tails was now on guard.

Though outside the range of Shisui's genjutsu, the Eight-Tails refused to look at him, focusing only on Susanoo's limbs. As a perfect Jinchuriki, Killer Bee didn't fear losing control or exhausting his chakra. As an immortal being of chakra, the Tailed Beast was incredibly resilient.

Similarly, with "Samehada" supporting him, Shisui's endurance seemed to stretch on endlessly.

There were no signs of the battle ending anytime soon.

Dodai frowned as he watched the army continuously retreat to avoid the shockwaves from Susanoo and the Eight-Tails' fight. He quickly realized they had fallen into Konoha's trap. However, there was nothing he could do about it—it was an open strategy. Even though he saw through it, there was no way to break free.

"Lord Raikage, if we can't wipe out those Konoha ninja before their reinforcements arrive, we'll either have to retreat empty-handed or fight a full-scale battle with Konoha."

Dodai spoke gravely.

"I've thought of that too," A's face was dark, looking even more gloomy against his already dark skin, his expression filled with frustration and anger. "The problem is the army can't get through."

"We could go around..." Dodai didn't finish his sentence, swallowing his words.

Taking a detour wasn't safe either. Susanoo and the Eight-Tails were like two moving walls. The army would be too conspicuous if they tried to go around, and if Uchiha Shisui spotted them and dragged the Eight-Tails to a new position, who knew how far they'd have to detour.

Is this Shisui's plan? To stall for time like this? This kind of situation hadn't been encountered before. In the previous three ninja wars, Jinchuriki, as strategic weapons, rarely fought alongside large forces. Even the Cloud Village had only recently been fortunate enough to have two perfect Jinchuriki.

In the past, Jinchuriki who couldn't fully control their powers could only transform into a partial Tailed Beast form for short periods. When full Tailed Beast power was needed, only small, elite squads were sent to deploy them on the battlefield. The main force wouldn't get too close, to avoid the risk of a rampaging Jinchuriki attacking indiscriminately.

This left the villages with little experience in having Jinchuriki fight alongside large armies.

And now they were in this awkward situation.

"With a small group, we should be able to get through," Dodai forced himself to calm down. "A few elite squads, even in this situation, could stand a chance. However, from C's report, we know the Konoha ninja across from us are also elites. Without the advantage of numbers, it will be difficult to take them down..."

"We'll do it!" A said decisively.

Dodai wasn't surprised by the Raikage's decision. Hesitation wasn't something that existed in the Raikage's nature.

"You've made up your mind?"

"Yes, Dodai, pull together the necessary forces. This time, I'll personally see what the Uchiha clan is capable of. Darui... I'll avenge him."

"I'll get it done right away."

Dodai moved quickly.

Within three minutes, he selected 234 ninjas, including C, all Jonin, essentially draining the elite forces from their 6,000-strong army. Only about thirty were left to assist Dodai in commanding the main force.

"The enemy is the Uchiha. Pair up and be cautious of their genjutsu."

"Yes, Lord Raikage!"

"Move out!"

"Yes!"

Dodai watched as the Raikage's figure disappeared from view, silently sighing as he focused on commanding the army to dodge the shockwaves from the battle between Susanoo and the Eight-Tails. The two giants were truly deadlocked. Shisui found that his attacks were struggling to deliver fatal blows to the Eight-Tails. He wanted to use Kotoamatsukami, but the Eight-Tails was extremely vigilant, avoiding eye contact from the start.

Sharingan genjutsu, a subset of visual genjutsu, required eye contact to take effect.

Just as auditory genjutsu needed sound to reach the enemy's ears, visual genjutsu required the enemy to see it. If they couldn't hear or see, the genjutsu wouldn't work.

Neither Shisui nor Killer Bee wanted to remain stuck in this frustrating stalemate. They both exhausted every technique they had to bring down the other. Tailed Beast Bombs, Yasaka Magatama, Tailed Beast Eight Twists, and Susanoo: Ninety-Nine... The destructive power of their attacks constantly reshaped the surrounding landscape.

But neither could land a decisive blow.

"The Eight-Tails is on a whole different level compared to the Two-Tails!" Shisui's breathing was heavy.

Samehada could replenish his chakra and ocular energy, but it couldn't relieve the pain and exhaustion he felt. Wave after wave of attacks crashed against him like an endless tide, threatening to pull him into the dark, bottomless depths of the ocean.

So tired! He sighed inwardly.

But no matter how exhausted he was, he had to hold on. Behind him were his clan, his comrades from the village. If he fell here, it would be up to those behind him to face this monster of the Eight-Tails... He had to hold out until Sougen arrived!

"I need to learn some sealing techniques specifically for Tailed Beasts..."

Susanoo moved instinctively. Its chest armor suddenly opened.

Susanoo: Ninety-Nine

A barrage of green chakra arrows shot from Susanoo's open chest, raining down on the Eight-Tails. Each arrow carried immense destructive power, capable of obliterating a three-story building. And in that instant, over a hundred arrows were fired.

This was Shisui's unique Susanoo technique, one that even Sougen didn't seem to know.

However, even such a powerful attack wasn't enough to bring down the Eight-Tails.

Tailed Beast Eight Twists

This was a technique only the fully transformed Eight-Tails could perform. By wrapping its tentacles around itself and spinning at high speed, it created a massive storm, powerful enough to reshape the terrain. If it could change the terrain, it could naturally deflect and tear apart the incoming chakra arrows.

Once again, neither side came out on top. Other than draining each other's strength and adding to their exhaustion, their greatest accomplishment was further tearing up the ground beneath their feet. A few more rounds of this, and the mountainous terrain would likely need a new name!

The mountains were being ground down inch by inch, turning into plains!

"Bee, can you still hold on?"

"No problem, this is a piece of cake for me!"

In the space of his consciousness, Killer Bee spoke confidently before the Eight-Tails, but like Shisui, this high-intensity battle was the toughest he'd ever faced. His chakra reserves were still sufficient, but mentally, the fatigue was piling up.

The Eight-Tails could clearly sense Killer Bee's growing mental weariness.

However, there was little it could do. Uchiha Shisui's strength wasn't something even the Tailed Beasts could easily destroy. After all, those eyes of his came from the bloodline of the Sage of Six Paths, so his inhuman strength was only to be expected.

After living for thousands of years, the Tailed Beasts understood that their power wasn't invincible. Among humans, there were always "monsters," most of whom were descendants of the Sage of Six Paths. But there were also a few "freaks" with no bloodline ties who were just as troublesome.

Ultimately,

The rulers of this world were humans!
