Chapter 1 - ENTRY 1: DOUBLE THE TROUBLE

December has always been cold, the frigid air biting at your skin and bringing forth shivers. Amongst towering structures of cement and bright LEDs, the people who frolic in this digital utopia never complained about the blinding colors nor the advertisements shoved in their faces periodically, they had their priorities, like any other human being.

Today feels like another mock at her life, and frankly, Beatrix wasn't having it. She has always preferred summer over winter, the chill just isn't worth fighting, and a heater is available in the vicinity of her home, why would she leave.

And yet, she did just that, exiting the comfort of the provided shelter to roam about and actually absorb the interior of the main hallway; sleek metal walls and blue rays of light projecting advertisements and motivational posters.

SoCal. One of the first nations to rise to stardom and revolutionize its technology for human comfort; it's a real shame that humans, as a species, are such greedy monsters. Isolated from the outside world, the normal folks live within the walls, and people like herself? She works beyond it, risking her every breath for the safety of the city. She would question it, often even, but had never really delved deeper into the topic.

"Oi, ever heard of moving to the side?" Came a voice she is oh so familiar with, a pompous lilt, and laced with sarcasm and hinted mockery. This bastard, she swore she'll have to report him to her superiors for being an utter nuisance with his boastful antics.

"It's five a—fucking—m, cut me some slack." She grits her teeth.

"Oh boo-hoo, is little Bea annoyed I decided to bother her?" And of course he goes in to tease her out of all people, all the guards, technicians, scoutmen and scoutwomen combined, and the person who HAD to be treated like some kid by him is her.

"Call me Beatrix for Lord's sake..." She grips her right shoulder blade, being mindful of the scarring there, and rolled her joint, easing any potential sores.

"Nah, that'd make your life too easy." The man continues as he began tying the red bandana around his head, leaving a little tuft poking out in the middle; what is he? Five? Beatrix wanted to give him a good slam of her fist right on his nose, but she held back.

"You're bored, aren't you?" Beatrix scoffed, pacing towards the door that led into the city. She needed a dang smoke, she is not ready to face off with a man who plays with metal animals.

"Just drop it Legosi, I'm not in the mood to fuck around." Can this guy quit? Beatrix genuinely might square up with this guy all because of his insistence.

The man, Legosi, trails behind her, the two both exiting the wall's overly futuristic interior and was greeted with the sight of the bustling utopia, the neon signs and vehicles that levitate off the ground.

"Having a smoke?" Legosi inquired. The curiosity in his tone is in fact there, but it was masked by his overwhelming need to sound like he is much better than her.

"Yes now fuck off." Came her snappy reply, her teeth gritting against one another as his presence becomes more and more of a nuisance.

"What's a girl like you doing outside anyway? In a black tank top too." A matter-of-fact comment is jabbed at Beatrix, Legosi was relentless, and it shows with just how long he stuck around her just to poke and prod at her buttons.

"And you're in a dirty white T-shirt, don't criticize what I wear if you're wearing the same thing, basically." She responded with a growl under her breath, her cigarette now lit after her battle with her unreliable lighter. She pressed the unlit end to her lips, taking a puff of the tobacco smoke and letting it sit on her tongue before exhaling.

Course, the little blond rascal was still there, smirking at her as if he wasn't just as knee-deep into his cigarette addiction, but again, Legosi was one boastful bastard who gets too much praise for someone so irritating, well, at least in her eyes that is.

"You enjoy annoying me, hm?" Beatrix sneers, eyeing the man mockingly.

"Heh," Legosi scoffed, shrugging his shoulders at the stated fact. "Can't say that I don't find it amusing."

Truly, what else could possibly drag this already shitty day to become something shittier?
