Haneul Middle School is a pressure cooker where students vie for top ranks to secure spots in elite high schools. The school's bell rings at 3 a.m., waking students in their dorms. The next day, Min-ji's best friend, Soo-ah, doesn't show up to class. Teachers, led by the cold, perfectionist Ms. Kang, claim Soo-ah left for "personal reasons," but Min-ji notices Soo-ah's desk is already cleared out, as if she never existed.
Min-ji, haunted by a secret—she stood by last year when Soo-ah was bullied during a group project—finds a cryptic note in Soo-ah's locker: "The bell knows what you did." That night, her phone pings with a message from an anonymous chatroom called "Bellkeeper's Game." The post contains a riddle: "The silent one carries the heaviest weight. Who watched and did nothing?" Min-ji's stomach churns; it feels personal. When another student, a shy boy named Hyun-woo, disappears after the bell rings again, Min-ji realizes the vanishings are linked to the riddles.
Desperate, Min-ji recruits two classmates: Jae-ho, a tech-savvy rebel who hacks school systems to dodge trouble, and Eun-bi, a popular girl whose perfect facade hides crippling anxiety. Together, they uncover that the Bellkeeper's chatroom is hosted on the school's private server, accessible only to students and staff. Each riddle exposes a student's secret—cheating, lying, bullying—before they vanish. The trio suspects the Bellkeeper is targeting those burdened by guilt, but why? And how are they disappearing without a trace?
