The fire crackled low, two twins sat in the floor wrapped in their blankets.
Ereno sat still, Eren clutched her blanket.
"With the help of the emperor" their grandfather said, "a few made it out... A mother, a father, their children. The parents opened a portal to the human world, they were hurt… but they made sure the children escaped."
"Where did they go?" Eren asked.
He smiled faintly; "Somewhere quiet... Somewhere safe."
"Do they still remember what happened?"
He didn't answer.
Instead, he tucked them in, kissed their foreheads.
"You two should sleep, school starts soon."
He walked away after giving his two grandkids while the firelight faded.
Beneath their shirts, two amulets: one red, one blue that glowed in the dark.
They didn't know why they were warm or why they pulsed when no one else was around.
They didn't know yet.
But the story had only just begun.
