Chapter 1 - The Beginning

A high-pitched ringing filled Kai's ears, growing louder and louder until he couldn't take it anymore. He jolted awake, dazed, he looked around, and slammed his hand on the alarm in frustration, immediately regretting the decision and pulling back his hand in pain.

Today was the day, he had officially turned fifteen and a half.

He grabbed a black jacket and threw it over the clothes he'd slept in all night, and gazed into the gloomy early morning dark weather outside. He glanced at his clock which read "2:54AM".

He sat in silence, alone, as always, shovelling down a bowl of cereal for breakfast in his small cramped apartment and he patiently awaited for the arrival of a messenger.

He heard a pounding knock on the door and he hurried to respond, nearly tripping himself in the process. He opened the door to reveal a shorter man who boldy announced,

"Kai- whats your last name"?

Kai sighed and responded "Don't worry about it, not many know of it".

The man impatiently responded "Well Kai, you have now turned 15 and half, and judging by your families history, you are most likely going to be sent to the Crye Realm which means you are now going to be sent to the Crye Academy for training".

Kai had been awaiting this day for years, ever since his brother had been conscripted by the unknown realm many years ago, he had been alone with no one to interact with, no events to attend and no happiness emerged in his life.

He followed the messenger on foot for what felt like an eternity until they arrived to their location.

In front of Kai stood an uncomfortable looking worn down minivan.

Kai sighed and entered, revealing a cramped space with around 12 seats, 11 of which were occupied. Kai observed this fact and saw the only remaining seat, next to a peculiar girl with luscious brown hair staring out the window into the emerging rain.

He wanted to just stand, but knowing that the van would travel at a rapid speed to reach the Academy in time, he disregarded the idea and took his seat at the back.

The whole 15 hour ride was a nightmare for Kai. Not because of the frequently occurring bumps and rattles of the road or anything similar, but rather how social the people in the van were.

Trapped with 11 other people his age was not something he could've desired in the slightest, but yet here he was.

In fact, on multiple occasions people tried to talk to him. And Kai managed to end the conversation as quick as possible every time.

As a result of this, no one else decided to talk to him and he was just in his corner alone.

Well not alone, next to him sat the strange girl, still staring out the window even after countless hours of driving.

Before anyone knew it, they had arrived to the Academy, and this marked the start of their journey.
