Chimi turned around and left, his silence declaring that he no longer wished to be part of this farce.
The Great Elder froze for a moment, trembling with rage as his authority was directly challenged.
"Defiance, one after anotherâŠ"
He bellowed:
"Uchiha Shami! If you dare to step out of this threshold, then you are no longer one of usâyou will be labeled a traitor!!"
In desperation, the Great Elder hurled a final threat.
"âŠ."
Chimi, who had reached the doorway, paused. The last hope he had for the hardliners shattered in that moment.
"If the Great Elder believes that I am truly a traitor⊠then so be it. I, Uchiha Shakumi, will be the kind of traitor who gives everything for the clan."
He had aligned with the hardliners because his parents once belonged to that faction.
Even as he matured and inherited that label, it never meant he fully embraced their idealsâor their cold methods.
What the Great Elder had done today had completely disillusioned him.
"Traitor! Bastard! You're a disgrace to the clan!!"
The Great Elder's shrieking echoed down the corridor, but Chimi ignored it.
Instead, he felt something heavy fall away.
Shackles long embedded in his soul seemed to snap.
His steps grew lighter.
Only now did Chimi begin to understand why the younger generation was gravitating toward Yan.
Compared to Yan's vision, these elders had decayed into relicsâ
Driven only by self-interest,
Using loyalty as a tool,
Never truly trusting anyone.
They didn't believe in unityâonly control.
Knock, knock.
"Come in."
As the door opened, a gust of wind swept into the room.
"Captain, just as you expected. The Great Elder couldn't restrain himself and sent someone to notify Chimi.
I didn't get too close for fear of being discovered, but from what I overheard, the Elder was furiousâhe denounced Chimi as a traitor, and Chimi didn't look back."
"Hmph. As I said, if you're as rigid and narrow-minded as the Great Elder, you'll never be able to trust others.
The moment Chimi contacted me, in the Elder's eyes, he became a liability.
Whether or not Chimi accepted my proposal, that contact alone marked him as untrustworthy."
That was exactly what Yan wanted.
The Great Elder had unwittingly handed him the victory.
Without that self-destructive reaction, it would've been harder to fully win over Chimi.
The Elder's arrogance, his temper, and his inability to value others beyond toolsâ
Those traits made him a predictable weapon of his own undoing.
"Just an old corpse clinging to power," Feng sneered.
"But with Chimi acting this way⊠are you sure the Elder won't retaliate?"
In the Uchiha clan, private revenge was not unheard of.
And paranoia was warranted.
"Relax. He wouldn't dare, not now. Especially with the current political tension.
If he lays a hand on Chimi, we'll take that as a public offense, and both Fuyue and I are watching.
He'll restrain himself."
To casually lay hands on his own kin in broad daylight?
If the Great Elder was foolish enough to cross that line,
Yan would seize the opportunity to bring him down permanently.
The Elder's pride and rage made him dangerousâ
But he wasn't stupid.
When his temper cooled, he would pull back.
He couldn't afford to be reckless under surveillance.
"Good work. Take a break. We don't need to monitor Chimi anymore.
From now on, let's give him the benefit of the doubt."
"If he still falls back into the Elder's trap after all this⊠then perhaps he never truly changed."
Things were progressing well.
The next phase: bring Chimi fully into their camp,
Then align with Fuyue and dismantle the hardliner faction piece by piece.
The Uchiha didn't need factions.
They needed unity.
They had always held winning cardsâ
Yet played themselves into corners with internal strife.
As Yan predicted, the Elder's side fell eerily silent.
No retaliatory move against Chimi was made.
Meanwhile, external pressure on the village was mounting.
Rumors of human experimentation and Wood Release research spread like wildfire.
Over the next few days, Yan adjusted to using his Sharingan.
Unlike Kakashi, who struggled with maintaining Kamui due to his non-Uchiha body,
Yanâalready possessing a MangekyĆâtook to the eye naturally.
The initial discomfort faded quickly.
Soon, Yan mastered the Kamui technique with frightening ease.
In his previous life, he'd assumedâlike most fansâthat Obito's two eyes had different functions:
Right eye for intangibility.
Left eye (used by Kakashi) for spatial rift attacks.
It wasn't until Uchiha Madara forcibly entered the Kamui dimension that everything clicked.
The violent tearing effect wasn't a featureâ
It was a flaw.
Kakashi's inability to fully control the eye was the reason behind the destructive warping.
In contrast, Yan had unlocked Kamui's full potential within days.
He wasn't at Madara's levelâ
But his mastery was more than enough.
"The night is dark and the wind is highâŠ"
He looked up into the moonless sky.
His left eye spunâ
And with a ripple of space, he vanished into the Kamui dimension.
Elsewhere, at the Daimyo's residenceâ
Kakashi kept his vigil.
He exchanged a subtle nod with Shisui, hidden in the shadows.
Despite the previous clash, Kakashi harbored no resentment.
Shisui had only followed orders.
The mutual understanding was unspoken, but strong.
"Never thought we'd be guarding the Daimyo together," Shisui remarked, stepping from the shadows.
"Didn't expect Uchiha to keep you either," Kakashi admitted with a dry smirk.
They stoodâtwo prodigies forged in the crucible of the Third Shinobi Warâchatting like comrades.
Stretching, Shisui sighed.
"I didn't want this post either, but Yan suspects Danzo might make a desperate move.
It's too dangerous for the Daimyo."
"Danzo, desperate?" Kakashi raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah⊠he's never been trustworthy."
Danzo had long tried to pull Kakashi into Root.
Kakashi always refused.
Their ideologies never aligned.
After a pause, Shisui gently broached another subject.
"How's your eye?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to fight you⊠but I had to carry out the clan's orders."
Kakashi nodded, accepting the apology with grace.
"It's fine. I understand."
He touched the cloth over his eye.
"Sharingan's hard on a non-Uchiha. Rejection's getting worse."
A dumb question, perhapsâbut he needed confirmation.
Shisui looked at him in surprise.
"Of course there's rejection. Even within the clan, transplanting eyes causes backlash."
"Thanks," Kakashi murmured.
At least it wasn't sabotage or deteriorationâjust natural rejection.
"You're welcome," Shisui chuckled.
"Though I'd love to take that eye back."
Their exchange ended in silence.
Both returned to their postsâ
Silent protectors in the night.
The Daimyo's official guards were more for show.
When real threats came, only these two would matter.
Meanwhile, in another part of the mansionâ
"Damn Uchiha HikoâŠ"
Asuma sat in his room, face still purple and swollen.
He spat water through his missing teeth and cursed under his breath.
Yan had turned his face into a pulp and knocked out more than one tooth.
He now had trouble drinking, let alone speaking.
"If I see that bastard again, I'll beat him to death!!"
He ranted on, unaware that space behind him was beginning to distort.
A black spiral rotated quietlyâ
And Yan emerged.
"Really? How exactly do you plan to do that?"
"Of course Iâ"
Asuma froze.
He shouldn't be hearing a voice.
He was alone. Kakashi was on duty.
And that voiceâŠ
His blood ran cold.
Turning around, he saw Yan standing in the room, eyes gleaming.
"Uchiha Hiko?! What the hell are you doing here?!"
Panic took over.
This wasn't some casual visit.
Yan hadn't come from Konoha just to say hi.
He wanted something.
And Asuma feared it was his life.
"What do you think I'm here for?" Yan stepped forward slowly.
Asuma grabbed a kunai, heart pounding, inching toward the window.
He now regretted choosing such an isolated room.
He'd have to break the window and runâfast.
He just hoped someone would hear him before it was too late.
