Chapter 5 - 5 Recruiting Troops

The Mercenary Guild was built in the west of Kulun. It covers an area no less than that of a royal palace. Kulun is the transportation hub in the western part of the Lyon Empire, with a large flow of people and capital. In addition, the Guild President Jason is good at management. In the less than fifty years since its establishment, the Mercenary Guild has become a force that cannot be ignored in the city of Kulun. Even the nobles in the city did not dare to disrespect the Mercenary Guild.

After entering the city, Roger first ran to the Magic Crystal Shop and sold a seventh-level magic crystal. In exchange for 300,000 gold coins, he went to the Magic Item Shop and bought a high-level space ring to fit the mountain of gold coins. Finally, he took Lilith to the Mercenary Guild, panting.

After waiting in a long line there, he finally successfully registered a mercenary group. Roger handed over 5,000 gold coins as registration capital and received the unique black crystal badge belonging to the leader from the service window. While walking, he discussed the name of the mercenary group with Lilith.

"How about calling him Flame Knights?" Lilith asked excitedly.

"Too lame." Roger shook his head.

"Flowers and roses?" Lilith turned her head and thought about it.

"Too girly."

"Magic holy swords?"

"Like a weapons store."

"Death sentence?"

"This is not a good sign."

At the end of the discussion, Lilith completely lost her patience, turned her pretty face away, and snorted, "Captain, you should think about it yourself!"

Looking at the cute and innocent appearance of his little slave girl, Roger couldn't help laughing. He put his arm around Lilith's shoulders, pulled her into his arms, and said with a smile, "My little darling is angry?"

"You are the master, I dare not be angry." Lilith turned around and gave Roger an ugly smile. Although she was a slave, Lilith knew that Roger treated her well, so she was not afraid of being punished by Roger.

"So stingy." Roger touched Lilith's cheek with his finger, bent down and gave her a kiss on the lips, filling her mouth with a sweet fragrance. "I think, why don't we call it the 'Hades' mercenary group? After all, everything we have now is given by Boss Hades. With this mercenary group, we can recruit followers for the Boss when it grows bigger in the future."

"That's a good idea." Lilith agreed with Roger's idea, and the name of the mercenary group was finalized.

After leaving the registration hall, Roger spent another hundred gold coins to rent a booth in the guild to recruit members.

The salary he offered was a little higher than the general market price. He thought that the place would be packed with people in a short time, with everyone vying to join the group. But ideals are full, while reality is very skinny. The two of them sat in the booth for the entire afternoon, but not even one person came to inquire about the business. It was completely deserted.

"What's going on?" Roger had a gloomy face. He had doubled the wages paid this afternoon, but very few people came to inquire. Even though there were one or two curious mercenaries who came forward to ask, they immediately turned around and left when they heard that he had just registered with the mercenary group.

"Brother, are you new here?" The booth next to him was occupied by a blond swordsman with a scar on his nose, who was leisurely lying on his chair, drinking and observing the people coming and going. Seeing Roger's dejected face, he couldn't help but say, "No matter how much money you give, people won't join your group."

"Why is that?" Roger asked puzzledly.

"Silly boy, being a mercenary and getting paid is the most hopeless thing. The real profit still depends on the commission and the magic materials obtained during the adventure." The blond swordsman glanced at Roger and Lilith and chuckled, "Look at you two. One is a third-level swordsman and the other is a magic apprentice. How much profit do you think they can get by following you to complete the commission tasks? If it were me, I would rather join a bigger group. Even if there is no salary, it is better to follow the big guys and get some soup than to get such a low salary from you."

"It seems to make sense." Lilith nodded as if she understood something.

"Look, that stall over there." The blond swordsman pointed to a stall not far away that had a long queue. "Although the Wolf Fang Mercenary Group was newly registered not long ago, its leader Owen is a seventh-level greatsword master with strong strength. With him leading the group, the risk is low and the return is high. Only by following such a leader can you reap the benefits."

"I see..." Roger felt like a deflated ball when he heard what the blond swordsman said. He feel quite depressed. It turns out that reality is far from as good as he imagined.

Seeing that the two had been convinced by his reasoning, the blond swordsman put on a friendly expression and said, "I think you have great potential. Why don't you cancel your mercenary group and join our Golden Lion Mercenary Group? Since you are handsome man and pretty woman, how about I give you five gold coins a week?"

"So you were trying to trick us into joining the group." Roger got furious when he saw that guy's face was even more thick skin than his own. "Go away!"

"Tsk, if you don't want to come, then don't come!" The blond swordsman was turned down and quickly put on a disdainful expression.

"It's a miracle that you two apprentices can recruit anyone. I am a fifth-rank swordsman after all, so it's only a matter of time before I can recruit anyone. Just wait."

"Um, are you hiring?" As soon as the blond swordsman finished speaking, another voice sounded.

A few people turned their heads and saw a tall and strong warrior covered in silver armor standing in front of them.

It looks like an iron tower. The warrior held a sword in one hand that was almost as big as Roger's two-handed sword, and in the other hand he held a tower shield made of fine steel, looking very imposing.

"Sure! Of course I will!" The blond swordsman jumped up and grabbed the warrior's hand before Roger could react, and walked towards his stall without saying anything. "The Golden Lion Mercenary Group welcomes you to join!"

"No, I don't want to join you. I want to join this mercenary group." The warrior shook off the blond swordsman's hand without hesitation. He pointed at Roger's stall and said firmly.

"Why? They are just two apprentices!" The blond swordsman was puzzled, his face almost twisted into a bitter gourd.

"Because the name Golden Lion is too ugly, 'Hades' sounds better." The warrior spoke very seriously, as seriously as an old scholar teaching his students.

The blond swordsman almost vomited blood when he heard this.

Roger snickered and signed a contract with the silver-armored warrior as a matter of course. In this way, he had his first mercenary member, the holy warrior Elfa from the Holy Land.

Looking at the information provided by Elfa, Roger's face almost broke with laughter.

A fifth-level holy warrior, a warrior wearing magic silver armor, holding a fine steel shield and sword, and knows simple healing sacred spells, this kind of combat power is even more popular in adventures than a sixth-level swordsman. Roger was really lucky to have found a treasure by recruiting such a member. He estimated that he would wake up laughing in his dreams tonight.

"Beauty, why did you join them?" The blond swordsman's voice filled my ears with reluctance, yet helplessness...

"Haha, because this little brother is quite handsome."

The second member Roger recruited was Matar, a female orc warrior from Samir. She had light greenish skin, a strong yet beautiful face with brown hair and hazel eyes , and an almost perfect body line. Not only was she full of muscular power, she also had the seductive curves of a mature woman. She wore a black blouse and some kind of leather shorts, she wore a necklace of animal teeth around her neck, a black gold dagger at her waist, and a long spear of unclear material on her back. Her every move exuded a heroic aura, giving people the feeling that she was a ferocious beast that would devour anyone at any time.

"A fifth-level jungle hunter, my god!" Roger was so excited that even his hand holding the pen was shaking. After finally signing the contract, Roger was so excited that he couldn't help but increase the salary of his team members. Now he had to pay them thirty gold coins every month. This standard is apparently on par with the salary packages of large mercenary groups.

As the sun sets, the crowds of people coming and going gradually thin out. Most mercenaries found a group of their choice, and after joining the group, they hurried to the tavern or hotel where they were staying. Seeing that there weren't many people around, Roger decided to close up his stall and take his new members out for a good meal. He was just about to leave after packing up his things when someone called him from behind.

"Hey, wait…"

"Huh?" Roger turned around and saw that it was the unlucky blond swordsman from the stall next door who didn't even attract anyone.

"I say, are you guys still short of people in your group?" The blond swordsman stood there with a painful look on his face. "If you're still short of people, count me in."

"Don't you have a group?" Roger asked puzzled.

"Forget it, I'll cancel it tomorrow." The blond swordsman waved his hand as if nothing had happened and continued, "Today I grabbed an A-level list mission, the salary is shockingly high, and I was thinking of recruiting a few people to quickly hand over.

It seems that we won't be able to recruit anyone in the short term. Then I can only find someone to cooperate with. "

"What? You have an A-level task list?" Roger showed joy when he heard that.

The Mercenary Guild's task list is divided into six levels: SSS, S, A, B, C, and D. The higher the level, the smaller the chance of the task appearing and the higher the reward. The reward for an A-level mission like this starts at at least 10,000 gold coins, and can be as much as 40,000 or 50,000 gold coins. No wonder this blond swordsman could bear to cancel the mercenary group he had just registered for 5,000 coins.

"I have no other requirements. I will join your group and provide everyone with this task list. I don't want your salary either. I just want one-third of the commission when the task is completed." The blond swordsman took out the task list from his arms and handed it to Roger. "How is it? Can you accept it?"

Looking at the letter A printed in red ink on it, Roger nodded affirmatively. He said, "Okay, let's go to the tavern together and sign the contract on the way."

In this way, Roger gained his third member, the mercenary, alcoholic fifth-level swordsman Randy.

The Hades Mercenary Group was initially formed.
