🌙 Prologue
In a world where humans and wolves coexisted, a young hybrid named Kaida lived a life of secrets and solitude. With the ability to transform into a wolf-like creature, Kaida struggled to control her powers and find her place in the world.
One fateful night, under the light of a full moon, Kaida met a mysterious figure named Lyrien. With piercing yellow eyes and sharp teeth, Lyrien was a skilled hunter and a fellow hybrid.
As they explored the forest together, Kaida discovered that Lyrien was not only a skilled fighter but also a kind and gentle soul. Despite the dangers that lurked in the shadows, Kaida felt a deep connection to Lyrien, and her heart began to beat with a newfound sense of purpose.
Chapter 1: The Hunt
---
The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the forest. The air was cool and crisp,
with the scent of pine and earth mingling in the wind. The forest was alive, but not with the usual
sounds of rustling leaves or the calls of birds. No, tonight, everything was quiet—eerily quiet—as if
the woods themselves were holding their breath.
Kaida crouched low in the underbrush, her eyes narrowed, every fiber of her being attuned to the
world around her. The hybrid blood that ran through her veins, both human and wolf, made her
senses sharp, heightened beyond anything a normal human could ever imagine. Her keen ears
caught the faintest rustling, and her sharp nose sniffed the air, detecting the trail of their prey—a
large stag, likely unaware of the two hunters stalking it.
She was in her wolf form, though only partially—her senses fully heightened, her body sleek and
strong, her eyes glowing faintly in the moonlight. She wore her transformation like a cloak, a
reminder of what she truly was, what she had to constantly fight to control.
"Stay low," Lyrien whispered, his voice smooth as velvet but laced with an intensity that Kaida
couldn't ignore.
She glanced up, her eyes meeting his. He stood beside her, his figure just a shadow against the
moonlit landscape. Lyrien, like her, was a hybrid—half-human, half-wolf. His features were
sharper, more defined, his eyes glowing with a yellow light that matched the full moon above them.
He was every bit the predator, a skilled hunter who had long since mastered his hybrid nature. He
moved through the forest with an effortless grace, a predator in his element.
Kaida felt a pang of jealousy. She had never felt as in control as he did. While she had learned to
hide her true nature, to blend in with humans, Lyrien embraced the wildness within him. He didn't
apologize for it. He didn't have to.
Together, they had hunted before, but never like this—never under the full moon, when the pull of
the transformation was strongest.
"Do you hear that?" Kaida asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lyrien's ears flicked toward the sound. He nodded. "It's close."
Kaida's heart raced with anticipation, a surge of adrenaline flooding her system. She was excited,
yes, but also nervous. There was always an underlying tension in her whenever she transformed.
The wolf inside her was always just beneath the surface, clawing to break free. If she lost control, if she gave in to the animal instincts, she might not be able to stop herself.
She had learned the hard way that her human side was not always enough to keep the beast at
bay.
Lyrien's gaze softened for a moment, as if sensing her internal struggle. He gave her a small,
reassuring smile. "You've got this, Kaida. Trust yourself."
Her pulse quickened at his words. There was something about Lyrien—his calm, his
confidence—that soothed the wildness inside her, even when the beast was clawing at her from
within.
Together, they moved forward, silently stalking through the forest, their paws barely making a
sound as they padded over the forest floor. The stag, unaware of their presence, grazed a few
hundred yards ahead, its massive antlers visible through the trees.
Kaida's eyes locked onto the target. She could feel the power of her hybrid form humming beneath
her skin, the urge to chase, to run, to hunt. But there was still a part of her—the human part—that
hesitated. Would she be able to control herself?
Lyrien's yellow eyes caught hers once more. He gave a slight nod, as if silently telling her, **We
do this together.**
Without a word, they began the chase.
The world blurred as they ran, the wind rushing past them, the scent of the stag growing stronger
with every step. Kaida's body was built for speed—every muscle working in perfect harmony, her
instincts taking over. She could hear the steady thump of the stag's hooves as it began to flee, its
panic sharp in the air.
Her legs carried her faster, pushing through the underbrush, the trees flashing past her in a blur.
Her heart pounded, but this time, it was different. This was freedom. This was who she was meant
to be.
Lyrien was at her side, his movements as fluid as a shadow, never faltering, never slowing. He
knew the forest better than anyone. He knew how to track, how to hunt. He was the epitome of
what Kaida struggled to become.
The stag's hooves thundered ahead of them, and Kaida could feel the adrenaline coursing through
her veins. She was so close. Closer than she'd ever been before.
But then, something shifted in the air—an unfamiliar scent. The wind shifted, and in the blink of an eye, a low growl rumbled through the trees.
A sudden burst of motion caught Kaida off guard. A pack of wolves—wild, untamed, and
hungry—burst out of the trees, surrounding the stag, their eyes glinting with hunger. They had
been tracking the prey, too, and now, they had it cornered.
Kaida's instincts flared. She had been so focused on the hunt, so caught up in the thrill of the
chase, that she had failed to notice the other predators.
Lyrien stopped beside her, his muscles tensing. "Stay close," he warned, his voice low and
dangerous.
Kaida nodded, the calmness in his voice grounding her. She could feel the wildness inside her
rise, but she fought it, keeping herself in check. She was a hunter, but she was also a protector.
As the pack closed in on the stag, Kaida and Lyrien stayed in the shadows, watching. The wolves
were closing in fast, their eyes glowing, teeth bared. The stag was already panicking, its hooves
thrashing against the ground in a desperate attempt to escape.
But Kaida could see it—the stag was no match for the pack. It would be over soon, and the night
would claim another victim.
Yet, a strange sense of unease crept over Kaida. There was something off about the way the pack
moved, the way they circled the stag. They were more coordinated, more ruthless, as if they had
been trained for this moment.
Before she could voice her concerns, Lyrien was already moving. He was quick, precise, and
before Kaida could react, he lunged into the clearing, his sharp teeth bared.
The wolves hesitated for a split second, and that was enough. Kaida followed, her body moving
almost without thought. Together, they tore through the pack, their movements synchronized, their
power a force of nature.
The other wolves scattered, retreating into the shadows as quickly as they had appeared. The
stag was left behind, panting and terrified, but alive.
Kaida stood still for a moment, her chest heaving as the adrenaline faded. Her mind buzzed with
the intensity of the chase, the rush of battle, and the thrill of the hunt.
Lyrien was beside her, his yellow eyes glowing with satisfaction. He looked at her, his expression
unreadable. But for the first time, Kaida saw something else in his gaze—a spark of pride. "You did well," he said softly, his voice full of admiration.
Kaida's heart skipped a beat. She had never been praised for her hunting skills before—not like
this. The words settled into her chest, warming the cold places inside her.
"Thanks," she said, her voice barely more than a whisper.
But inside, something shifted. She was no longer just a hybrid struggling to survive. Tonight, she
had found something more—something that she had been searching for her entire life.
