Having learned this, Loki pondered for a while.
As evening approached, he decided there was no need to act today.
He planned to have Balda lead the way to the ant nest early the next morning.
Killing Chimera Ants to strengthen the Fire Spirit was one of Loki's goals, but more importantly, he hoped they would trigger some missions.
Since no missions had been triggered yet, perhaps he should check out the ant nest. If there were still no missions, he would simply eliminate all the Chimera Ants.
After Loki finished his questioning, early the next morning, after eating, the group set out for the ant nest.
Even though Balda was reluctant, he dared not disobey Loki's orders. Ponzu had told him that Loki didn't care about them; their lives or deaths were of no consequence to him.
As long as they didn't defy Loki's will, they still had a good chance of survival.
This person was a Hunter from the same generation as him, yet in just one year, he had become such a terrifying figure. Balda's own strength was among the weakest among Hunters.
Although he no longer feared Loki as much as he initially did, he worried that even stronger monsters might appear.
What if they encountered a monster even Loki couldn't defeat? With this worry, Balda led the way towards the ant nest.
They soon passed a village that had been massacred. The signs of battle were still evident, suggesting a recent attack. Seeing the blood-soaked ground, Balda looked back at Loki.
"Should we continue?"
With no choice, Balda steeled himself and stepped over the blood-soaked ground, continuing forward.
The forest ahead grew darker and more ominous, the temperature slowly dropping. Balda, following the tracks, moved quickly.
Soon, by a river, they found more signs of battle. This time, it was different.
Firearms were scattered along the riverbank.
This surprised Balda. "Aren't mechanical devices prohibited here?"
"It seems the underground forces have also taken action," he said.
"Unfortunately, they were still no match for those monsters."
Loki glanced at the discarded handgun, his expression unchanged as he continued walking.
He thought, 'The underground organization leader who was eaten in the original story… that must have been the future King!
If the ordinary Chimera Ants can't trigger a mission, then the King and the three Royal Guards should have a higher chance! Is it because the current Chimera Ants haven't learned Nen yet, so they don't even qualify to trigger a mission?'
Loki walked straight ahead, Balda quickly getting up to lead the way, Hisoka and the others silently following behind.
As twilight approached, the setting sun painted the sky crimson.
Suddenly, Loki stopped. Balda, at the front, walked a few steps before noticing something was wrong.
He turned back to find Loki and the others had stopped.
"What's…"
Before he could finish, the sound of flapping wings filled the air. A figure descended from the sky, landing directly behind Balda.
Instantly, Balda's eyes widened, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. A raspy hiss echoed in his ears. He slowly turned his neck. A giant insect, humanoid in form, stood behind him, its eyes fixed on him.
Thump thump thump! One after another, dark figures descended from the sky. Over a dozen strangely shaped insects appeared, each a bizarre combination of various insects.
More flapping wings could be heard in the sky. A winged bird-man, the Squadron Leader Koruto, looked down at Loki and his group.
He clearly saw the immense life energy emanating from them, Loki's being the most ordinary. Yet, this ordinary human gave Koruto a feeling he couldn't ignore. Even standing quietly among the powerful humans, Loki drew everyone's attention.
'So many Nen users guarding an ordinary human… Could this be the King of Humanity?'
...
'No good!' 'So many monsters… Can we win?' Balda worried. Even after witnessing Loki kill the monsters, the sheer number of monsters now was overwhelming.
Over a dozen on the ground, one in the air. If they attacked together…
"You!" Koruto, high in the air, his gaze cold, addressed Loki. "Are you the King of Humanity?"
Although Loki's life energy was ordinary, his presence was unique.
The way Hisoka and the others surrounded him, like stars around a moon, indicated Loki's importance.
Koruto's tone annoyed Loki. They were merely ants, who, after mixing with human genes, had become arrogant.
Loki's dark eyes flickered as he looked up at Koruto.
"King?" he said. "I'm not the King of Humanity. Humanity has no king."
Koruto pondered this, turning to Hisoka. Among Loki's group, only Hisoka's life energy was exceptionally strong, like a bright moon compared to the starlight of the others.
This immense life energy made Koruto wary.
However, he had the ability to fly, something humans lacked, so he wasn't afraid. Even if he couldn't win, he believed he could escape.
"Since you're not the King of Humanity, there's no point in further discussion," Koruto said, arms crossed.
"Capture all these humans and present them to the Queen."
Nen users were rare among humans, and Koruto felt incredibly lucky to encounter so many at once.
"Finally, it's time to begin."
