Chapter 383 - Chapter 383: Kawaki Makes the Call

"Talking about what? No one even answered when I knocked."

Kawaki felt right at home here. After greeting Mito, he casually picked a spot to sit.

"Yeah, we could hear you talking from far away."

Tsunade sat down beside Kawaki and pinched a bite of pickles, popping it into her mouth.

"Not much. Grandma just said yesterday that she wants Nawaki to get married earlier."

Kushina glanced left and right but still didn't see Minato anywhere.

"Stop looking. Minato got an urgent mission."

"He won't be back until afternoon anyway."

Kawaki immediately saw through Kushina's little motive.

"Oh~ Got it!"

Kushina sat properly again, a flicker of disappointment in her eyes. He had promised her last night too.

"Getting married earlier isn't a bad thing, right?"

"Do you know the date yet?"

Tsunade wiped her oily fingers with tissue paper as she looked toward Nawaki.

"No way, no way."

"Grandma was just being impulsive. Misaki and I were planning to wait a few more years."

"Grandma agreed too."

Nawaki waved his hands hastily, afraid Tsunade might misunderstand.

"Oh, I see."

Tsunade tossed the tissue aside without taking it seriously.

"I was just saying randomly. Let them decide their own matters."

Mito acted as if she hadn't been the one pushing for marriage yesterday, her attitude completely changed.

"It's better to wait a few more years. Nawaki isn't quite ready yet."

As Tsunade spoke, she suddenly raised her hand, scaring Nawaki backward.

"Sis, why'd you do that for?"

Nawaki straightened up after realizing there was no danger, heart still raced.

Damn this bloodline pressure!!!

"You can't handle a little scare?"

Tsunade casually glanced at Nawaki, not hiding her disappointment. How could he ever be the head of a household with such a timid heart?

"Sure, whatever you say, big sis."

Nawaki didn't dare resist at all, only roughly pinching Ginji's cheeks instead.

"Bad uncle, you're hurting me."

Ginji struggled out from Nawaki's grip. What did he ever do to deserve this?

"Come here, Dad."

Kawaki felt sorry for Ginji and gestured him over.

"Oh, by the way."

"Kushina, how many months until your birthday?"

After pulling Ginji close, Kawaki seemed to suddenly recall something.

"Me?"

"Just under six months left until adulthood."

Kushina counted on her fingers, wondering what Kawaki was asking about.

"Just under six months, huh?"

Kawaki frowned slightly, then turned to look at Mito thoughtfully.

"What's wrong, Kawaki?"

"Did I act weird?"

Suddenly being stared at by Kawaki made Mito feel uneasy. Did he notice something?

"No, Grandma."

"I just suddenly think it's actually not bad for Nawaki to marry earlier."

"Why don't you set a date then?"

Kawaki showed no sign of inner turmoil, though his heart swelled with sorrow.

If he remembered correctly, in the original plot, Mito would pass away shortly after Kushina came of age.

She wasn't just saying that offhandedly—she meant it.

Perhaps she simply wanted to see her grandson marry within her lifetime, so that she could pass away without regrets.

Brother-in-law, Grandma already said it's up to us — it's our decision now.

Nawaki didn't understand what was going through Kawaki's mind — why bring up an old topic again?

You shut up. Wait your turn to speak.

Kawaki rarely spoke to Nawaki with such harshness.

Misaki and Kushina were both startled by Kawaki's sharp tone.

What are you doing?

Tsunade gently pulled Kawaki's sleeve, thinking he'd gone too far. After all, Nawaki was her own younger brother and hadn't said anything particularly offensive.

It's fine. Let's hear what Grandma has to say first.

Kawaki gave Tsunade a forced smile.

There were things Mito couldn't say herself, and thus Kawaki couldn't tell Tsunade either.

Leave them be. There's no rush.

Mito hesitated for a long moment before giving Kawaki a deep look.

So he'd figured it out after all.

See? I told you.

Grandma was just rambling again.

Nawaki still hadn't noticed anything odd, believing Kawaki was needlessly worrying.

Grandma, in my opinion—

You can't just let them do as they please.

If you don't pressure this kid Nawaki, when will he ever truly grow up?

Therefore, getting married sooner rather than later is definitely a good thing.

Kawaki completely ignored Nawaki but couldn't exactly state things too bluntly.

Instead, he began spouting views that sounded reasonable on the surface.

Hmm… You actually have a point there.

A faint smile tugged at Mito's lips. She understood Kawaki's intentions well enough.

Grandma…

Before Nawaki could even start speaking, Kawaki interrupted him.

Even Misaki hasn't said anything — why are you being so talkative?

Could it be… you've developed feelings for someone else?

Kawaki had his own twisted logic and instantly left Nawaki speechless.

Misaki looked at Nawaki for quite a while upon hearing that before finally bursting into laughter.

The look on Nawaki's face was so pathetic it was adorable.

As for the suggestion of him falling for another woman, she naturally didn't believe it.

Not only because of their years together, but also because Misaki herself was confident in her looks.

Miss Misaki, what are your thoughts regarding marriage?

Mito didn't ask Nawaki further; she knew Misaki well.

Since Kawaki was willing to take the lead, she decided to let him handle it.

I'm fine with whatever. I'll follow Grandma's decision.

Just as Mito expected, Misaki immediately handed the decision back without hesitation.

Well then, that settles it.

Grandma, pick a date and we'll call it finalized.

Kawaki shot Nawaki a glare, forcing him to swallow his words whole.

Alright then. I'll go find someone to choose an auspicious date later.

As soon as Mito spoke, everything was settled.

Nawaki remained dazed even at this point — his wedding had really been decided just like that?

What are you daydreaming about? You should be happy.

This gorgeous girl is about to become your wife.

Tsunade reached out and gave Nawaki a tap on the head—just hard enough to confuse him but not hurt him.

"I'm happy, I'm happy."

Nawaki grinned, but he didn't look even slightly willing.

"Don't worry, brother-in-law will definitely throw you a grand wedding ceremony."

"You'll be satisfied, guaranteed."

Kawaki gave Nawaki's shoulder a firm pat. Wasn't that also a kind of hint?

Whether or not he could pick up on it was up to Nawaki himself.

"Thank you, brother-in-law."

Now that things were settled, Nawaki slowly regained his composure and politely thanked Kawaki.

When he looked up, he saw Misaki sitting across from him looking unusually obedient. Maybe getting married earlier than expected wasn't so bad after all.

"Now, don't play favorites, Brother-in-law. Don't forget Minato is your first disciple."

Kushina couldn't bring herself to mention her own name, so she mentioned Minato's instead.

"You little fiery girl, pretty impatient, huh?"

"Don't worry, I won't neglect either of you."

Kawaki shot Kushina an amused glance. That little fiery girl sure was more outspoken than Minato.

"I always knew Brother-in-law was the best teacher!"

Kushina didn't care how awkward it sounded—she shot a compliment straight at Kawaki.

"Yeah, yeah, drop the act already."

"If I hadn't agreed, who knows what nonsense you'd be spreading about me."

Kawaki waved his hand dismissively and made a joke.

"I would never do that!"

Kushina quickly denied it, though there was no way she would admit the truth.

When she was alone with Minato, the two had plenty to say about both Kawaki and Tsunade.

One was henpecked, the other had a violent temper.
