Chapter 386 - Chapter 386: Wise-Cracking

"Why didn't you let me go with Grandma this morning?"

During lunch, Tsunade finally voiced her lingering question while alone with Kawaki in the Hokage's office.

Though she had gone along with Kawaki's decision at the time, that didn't mean she wouldn't ask about it later.

"Grandma was happy to have Ginji with her. But taking you..."

"Hmph, looking for trouble?"

Kawaki slightly lifted the corner of his lips, giving Tsunade a teasing up-and-down glance, his meaning obvious.

This reckless comment, without doubt, lit a fire under Tsunade.

"I think it's *you* who's asking for trouble."

Before Kawaki even finished speaking, Tsunade grabbed a nearby pen and hurled it straight at him.

The sharp whistling sound pierced their ears—it was as fast as any kunai.

"Trying to kill your husband, are we?"

Kawaki didn't even uncross his legs, still smiling.

With two fingers, he caught the pen just in front of his eyes and casually spun it around.

"Why didn't it stab you dead?"

Tsunade rolled her eyes. She knew full well that such an attack meant nothing to Kawaki.

"C'mon, I was just kidding. Don't get so worked up."

Kawaki got up and walked over beside Tsunade, grinning as he started massaging her temples.

"Stop dodging the question—you still haven't answered me."

Tsunade swatted Kawaki's hand away and gave him a piercing stare.

"Aww, she turned me down flat."

"Why would you force yourself into it like that? It's not like you're some desperate hanger-on."

"And besides, Ginji was there. It's basically the same thing."

Kawaki kept wise-cracking, deliberately avoiding the main issue.

"What do you mean 'desperate hanger-on'? That's my grandmother."

Tsunade shot Kawaki a glare, most of her suspicion now gone—maybe she really had been overreacting.

She trusted Kawaki completely; she knew he wouldn't hide anything from her.

"Yeah yeah, my wording was bad."

Kawaki nodded rapidly, hoping he'd finally made it through this one.

"I wonder if Ginji was obedient or if he upset Grandma."

"When I was little, Nawaki and I were such rascals. Every time we came back from going out with Grandma, we always ended up getting our butts kicked."

As she recalled the past, Tsunade couldn't help but burst into laughter.

Back then, Mito's spankings really hurt—but now, they were pure nostalgia.

"I'm pretty good at getting beaten up."

"When I was young, I couldn't beat Big Bro, and I got thrashed pretty badly."

Kawaki remained silent about his own mistakes.

"Haha, so you grew up seeking revenge, huh?"

Tsunade imagined the scene and laughed even harder.

No wonder Kawaki enjoyed squabbling with Sakumo so much—it all started here.

"Not entirely. Mainly because Big Bro was too rigid."

Kawaki never admitted being petty. Pummeling Sakumo was just another expression of deep brotherly affection.

"Pfft, you were just too wild."

"Big Bro was always such a sincere person."

Tsunade finally said something fair. Sakumo was someone deeply reliable.

"Just too honest."

"If it weren't for me, he'd have been taken advantage of and wouldn't even know how he died."

Kawaki spoke proudly—You could say the Hatake family exists today because of him.

"Did you see that cow up in the sky?"

"Believe it or not, you small-minded woman," Tsunade lifted her head, staring at the ceiling with a serious expression as if she could see right through it.

Kawaki caught Tsunade's implication immediately. After all, there was no way two entirely different people could come from the same bed. "Thanks for the compliment."

Tsunade gave a slight nod, her smile brightening.

Just as Kawaki was about to pull a prank, Shouta's voice came from outside the door.

"May I come in?"

Shouta was afraid he might walk in on something inappropriate, so he called out first. Normally, he would have just pushed the door open without hesitation; there was no need to knock before returning to his workstation.

"Come in."

Tsunade watched Kawaki withdraw his hand and shot him a taunting glance. These two spouses were anything but saints.

"Just you wait."

Kawaki opened his mouth slightly, leaving those silent three words behind as he passed by Shouta.

"Lord Kawaki looks off today. Is something bothering him?" Sitting down at his desk, Shouta asked with concern.

"It's nothing. He gets these mood swings every month." Tsunade casually brushed off the question, further confusing Shouta.

Wait, does Lord Kawaki even get PMS?

Before he could finish thinking, Tsunade assigned him a task. As the saying goes, rank has its privileges—and whether he liked it or not, he had to do it.

Once he dove into work mode, Shouta quickly forgot this trivial matter. The piles of paperwork gradually disappeared, and before he knew it, the sun was already setting.

"That's enough for today; nothing important remains," Tsunade yawned lazily and stood up to leave work.

"You go ahead first. I've still got a few files left," Shouta raised his head with a smiling face, clearly showing signs of fatigue—he definitely had traces of a workaholic.

"Don't push yourself too hard. Let's go."

Tsunade chuckled while shaking her head, forcibly dragging Shouta out of the office.

"Time to go home."

Outside the Hokage Building, Tsunade finally released Shouta's arm, which had nearly swollen from her grip.

"Next time, please be gentler."

Rubbing his sore arm, Shouta muttered—after all, he didn't have Lord Kawaki's stamina.

"Haha, weaklings train harder. Come on."

With a hearty laugh, Tsunade walked away without looking back.

Watching Tsunade disappear from sight, Shouta turned his gaze toward the Hokage Building once more before slowly heading off himself.

"Has Ginji not returned yet?"

Back home, Tsunade saw only Kakashi playing with Little White at the training ground. Usually, Ginji would have been tailing her closely by now.

"Oh!"

"He hasn't come back either, though Uncle just returned not long ago."

Kakashi stopped chasing and stood still, honestly answering Tsunade's question.

"I see. Well then, keep playing."

Tsunade didn't ask seriously—it made sense that Ginji wouldn't be in danger while staying with Lady Mito anyway.

"Alright, Auntie."

Kakashi nodded and resumed chasing Little White.

Making her way into the dining room, Tsunade found Kawaki and Sakumo cracking up together.

"What are you talking about? Why are you laughing so much?"

Tsunade sat beside Kawaki, who had already handed her a cup of tea.

"We were just talking about that little punk Minato. I heard Nawaki nearly cried when he heard about his wedding."

"Hahaha~"

Sakumo burst into hearty laughter. Being able to see the younger generation settling down filled this senior elder with great satisfaction.

"It was bound to happen sooner or later—him and Kushina getting together. What's there to be jealous about?"

Tsunade took a sip of tea, a calm expression on her face, though the corners of her eyes crinkled with a smile.

"Kids grow up. Nothing you can do about it."

"Looks like it's time we started work on Minato's mansion too."

It wasn't just because Kawaki had promised Minato—it was something he truly wanted to do.

After all these years together, Minato had long become family to him—like a younger nephew.

"That's up to you, but don't make it look cheap."

Tsunade teased Kawaki with a casual glance.

She knew Kawaki never held back when it came to family. There was no way Minato's home would ever be described as cheap or shabby.

"Are you kidding? Do I look like the kind of guy who'd skimp on something like this?"

Kawaki laughed out loud, already brainstorming possible locations.

Too far away would feel isolated and inconvenient. Too close, though, could get annoying.

In the end, he decided it was best to let Minato choose the location himself. Kawaki would handle overseeing construction and interior design.

"Alright then, call Kakashi to eat."

As soon as Sakumo finished speaking, the Ghost Mastiff scrambled up and waddled out of the dining room.

Even though it was practically round from being so fat, at least it could still shuffle around a little.
