Chapter 283 - Chapter 283: Arrival in Another World

Chapter 283: Arrival in Another World

Icy and bone-chilling.

The cold wind, laced with fine snowflakes, howled across the snowy plains, blanketing the land in white.

In this desolate, uninhabited landscape, a gate radiating white light suddenly appeared from the void.

One figure after another emerged from it at high speed. The moment they landed, they scattered without hesitation, darting toward any available cover.

"Clone Technique."

"Basic ninjutsu functions normally."

"Ice Release: Ice Needle."

"D-rank ninjutsu confirmed to be usable."

As the situation stabilized, several ninjas began testing small-scale jutsu, confirming whether standard ninja world techniques functioned in this new environment. They avoided large-scale techniques to prevent disturbing the environment or attracting the attention of this world's inhabitants.

Simultaneously, scouts spread out, their sharp eyes slicing through the blizzard to analyze and memorize the terrain.

Perceptive ninjas expanded their chakra senses, linking up with comrades and reporting the state of the surrounding area.

One second… two… three…

Time passed.

The moment the final shinobi exited the space-time gate, the glowing doorway flickered in the dim snowfall… and vanished entirely.

At that same moment, the team of over one hundred shinobi began spreading out.

Defensive units. Sensory units. Medical squads. Sealing experts. Long-range fighters. Taijutsu specialists.

Though they numbered only a hundred, each member had been meticulously chosen by the Hyuga clan—battle-hardened veterans with significant achievements. Every one of them could cover at least two roles.

Some excelled in Taijutsu or Ninjutsu.

Others in healing, sealing, or infiltration.

Their team captains possessed more than raw strength. Hyuga Souji, for example, excelled in both physical combat and diplomatic negotiation.

Hyuga Iroha balanced Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and field tactics with composure.

Mei Terumi—former Mizukage—was a master of ninjutsu, illusions, and seals, with experience commanding large forces.

And Armin, though a recent graduate, showed strong aptitude in diplomacy, strategic command, and logistical coordination.

This was an elite force. Though small in number, they would leave a decisive impact in any nation of the ninja world.

Yet here, their role was simply reconnaissance and intelligence gathering.

In previous times, such an assignment might have seemed beneath their talents.

But this was different.

Not one of them complained. Not one looked down on the task. All remained alert, serious, and ready.

"No movement in the east. No signs of habitation."

"West is clear. No heat signatures or chakra disturbances."

"Nothing unusual detected—"

Reports flowed steadily to the captains through the sensory network.

"Hold position and maintain body temperature," Hyuga Iroha commanded, raising a hand to signal.

Although all captains held equal authority in name, the Hyuga's internal ranking system dictated command hierarchy—no one questioned Iroha's orders.

The chakra armor provided to them offered basic cold resistance, but it was not enough for the brutal wind and snow sweeping across this foreign world.

From a ninja tool pouch, the logistics unit retrieved a storage scroll.

With a soft puff, rows of thick winter clothing appeared, prepared well in advance.

These were just one set of many emergency outfits prepared for different scenarios: disguises for merchants, doctors, law enforcement, farmers, workers—even diving suits. Every possibility had been considered.

The logistics team had even stocked rare minerals and valuable resources—physical goods that could serve as hard currency for trade if needed.

Once dressed in the insulated, flexible winter wear layered over their clan's chakra armor, the team gradually began to recover warmth and mobility.

"All ninjutsu and genjutsu are functional."

"Chakra circulation and refinement remain unaffected."

"Environmental conditions are stable. Climate is harsh, but manageable—comparable to cold regions of the ninja world."

The testing squad delivered their results promptly.

The tension across the unit eased slightly. They slowed their pace, awaiting the next set of orders.

And yet… as they looked around at the white wilderness, a sense of surrealism crept in.

Was this truly another world?

Or had the gate simply teleported them to somewhere like the Land of Snow?

"According to the original plan, we'll advance eastward in squads of ten," Iroha said without hesitation.

The formation quickly shifted. The hundred-strong force split into smaller units.

The first group, led by Hyuga Souji, moved out immediately, heading east.

Five minutes later—just before the sensory limit of the first group was reached—the second team departed.

Then the third… the fourth…

Mei Terumi joined the fourth unit as it departed.

The fifth team. The sixth…

Armin quietly stood and joined the seventh.

Each captain would rotate between teams to maintain fluid command and monitor mission progress.

Iroha, holding the old cat—a longtime reconnaissance agent of the clan—joined the final team. Their job included erasing all traces left by the others to prevent detection.

The expedition moved with the precision of a clockwork machine—measured and disciplined.

Timers were affixed to each shinobi's wrist. Every two hours, they would pause to rest and restore chakra, ensuring they remained ready to face any threat.

They had one month to complete their mission. There was no need to rush—only to remain cautious and thorough.

Their sole objective: gather intelligence without revealing themselves to the native inhabitants.

The weather continued to worsen. The dim sky faded to black as night fell.

Yet not a single voice complained. No one lagged behind. The formation remained seamless—equally spaced and synchronized, even in this alien world.

The wind and snow howled relentlessly, lashing at the bodies of the advancing shinobi.

But not one of them faltered.

Chakra flowed steadily to the soles of their feet, allowing the shinobi to move across the snow-laden terrain as easily as if it were solid ground.

Survival, movement, concealment, and offense in extreme conditions—these were the essence of a ninja's work. Environment was never a hindrance, only a variable to be mastered.

"Etc!"

Suddenly, a sharp but faint voice came from the first squad.

The message was quickly relayed through the sensory chain—picked up by the second team, then the third, and passed down to every unit.

Instantly, the entire formation halted, awaiting further detail from Hyuga Souji of the first team.

"We've discovered extensive human tracks and an abandoned... cabin. There may be a settlement nearby."

Souji's calm voice came through clearly.

"Are you certain they're human?" Iroha responded evenly. "Not wildlife?"

"Definitely human. There are many footprints—some deep, some shallow. It's obvious there's a variation in weight."

Souji's reply was immediate and confident, bypassing any hesitation. "Based on the prints, they're wearing shoes, and their sizes match ours. No signs of them being giants or abnormal in shape."

"From the depth of the footprints, assuming their physical structure is similar to ours, they're likely wearing heavy clothing."

He paused for a moment, then continued, "Wait... Tobacco. We found remnants of cigarette butts."

"Still smells faintly of alcohol. Looks like the smoker was drinking—probably to stay warm."

"That alone suggests a culture not unlike ours, at least in terms of habit and entertainment."

Inside the cabin, they had also discovered familiar tools—shovels, axes, and even a set of rusted iron armor alongside a basic spear.

"Weapons, tools, rugged terrain—harsh environment."

Iroha, drawing from extensive battlefield experience, made a prompt decision. "Continue forward. Rest breaks will now be once per hour. Use the extra time to survey the surrounding area."

After a brief silence, he turned toward another figure. "Hyuga Neji—your Byakugan is the purest among us, and your ability to utilize its full perception is unmatched. Leave your current team and join the second squad ahead."

"Assist each checkpoint en route and scan their surroundings thoroughly."

Unlike Ryosuke's evolved Byakugan, most Hyuga only possessed the standard version. Their best ability was tracking chakra networks, but in another world, where humans might not even possess chakra, that ability became practically useless.

Only Neji's Byakugan, with its exceptionally high purity, retained a limited form of true x-ray vision—allowing him to perceive objects and structures rather than chakra flow alone.

Here, he was their best scout.

Time passed.

A full day and night since arriving in this unfamiliar world, and finally—just as the pale sky began to dim once again—they saw it.

In the distance, thick smoke rose behind massive fortified walls, like a dark pillar cutting through the storm. Even amidst the roaring winds, the members of the first team could faintly hear laughter… and the clinking of glasses.

"Prepare for immediate evacuation," Hyuga Souji said, raising a hand.

He quickly mapped out surrounding escape routes, then turned to Neji. "Check inside the walls. Report what you see."

"Be cautious with your sight and chakra sensing. High-level individuals, even if lacking active perception techniques, may still sense they're being watched through sheer instinct or sixth sense."

"Understood," Neji replied, his expression unreadable, though his fists were clenched tight.

This scenario was outlined in Hyuga's internal training courses—curriculums far beyond standard ninja instruction. These included cross-world intelligence gathered from Shanks, Allen, Gintoki, and others, compiled and revised into doctrine by Ryosuke himself.

Things deemed impossible in the ninja world could be entirely plausible elsewhere.

Neji slowly activated his Byakugan and moved his gaze with painstaking care.

Controlling one's gaze is no simple feat. The human brain is instinctive—it sends unconscious signals to act, to move, to stare. The more delicate the movement, the harder it is to control.

But this was a fundamental discipline within the Hyuga clan.

No matter one's identity—ninja, pirate, samurai, or otherwise—control of the body was always among the first things taught. And here, it was enforced with utmost rigor.

"They're… weak?"

After scanning the compound, Neji turned slowly and reported to Souji.

"Their physical strength doesn't appear subpar, but it's comparable to ordinary samurai—nothing extraordinary."

"Aside from that, I detected no unusual energies or responses. No reaction to my gaze."

He paused, then added, "Inside the walls, there are numerous military encampments."

"Roughly one thousand personnel in total. The highest-ranking officer is a tall, well-built middle-aged man—a captain."

"I noted several ranks—Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, and Company Captain. Their hierarchy seems structured by the number of troops each commands. Surprisingly strict."

His voice was low, carefully transmitted to the entire team through the sensory network.

Despite it being near nightfall, the camp was well-guarded. Soldiers moved in precise rotations, patrolling the space between tents.

Fires burned brightly, leaving no part of the grounds cloaked in shadow. In the dead of winter, the place seemed alive—resilient.

"They're very weak," Neji repeated after a pause.

But after a breath, he added carefully, "At least… on the surface."

In foreign lands, ninja world standards could no longer be used as the sole metric of power. This principle was carved deeply into every Hyuga who participated in the interworld operations.

Not one of them underestimated the people of other worlds.

Even someone as unimpressive as Shimura Shinpachi—a seemingly average man from another world—had proven that appearances could be deceiving.
