Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Encounter with the Imprisoned Swordsman

Talents Copied: (Empty)

Copying Mechanism: Upon directly seeing a person, a list of all their talents and their power level (F-S U with three sub-levels +/- and for each basic grade a multiplier system) will appear. There will be one copying condition or a set of conditions that must be met to unlock the possibility of copying any of these talents. Once met, one talent can be chosen to copy, and an assimilation period will begin (depends on the talent level: F-D instant, C-B instant, A-S one to three days, U one to two weeks). Training the talent during assimilation reduces its duration. During the assimilation period of any talent, no other talent can be copied. The talent level can be raised by merging or training. With my complete knowledge of the events of this island, the huge Marine base loomed in the distance, its gray stone walls reflecting the power of the World Government. I knew Zoro was being held somewhere inside that fortress. I wandered through the crowded markets, listening to the whispers of the locals and the patrons of the taverns. It wasn't difficult. The story of the swordsman who sacrificed himself to protect the girl from Captain Morgan "Axe-Hand"'s wolf son was the talk of the town. They said he was a demon with a sword, but they managed to make him surrender and tie him to the execution platform. Two weeks remained until the bet, but everyone knew they wouldn't release him. I waited until dawn, then sneaked into the Marine base. And because of years of watching anime and reading manga in my previous world, I was granted a basic understanding of military base layouts. I moved lightly between the buildings, avoiding the Marine patrols that were wandering around. My first goal was Helmeppo's room, Captain Morgan's son. I knew Zoro's three swords were there. And having them with me would facilitate the idea of Zoro joining me. It didn't take long to find the room. The guard was lazily asleep. I entered the room quietly and Helmeppo wasn't inside, then I found the three swords. I carried them cautiously and headed towards the central square. A sturdy wooden platform stood tall in the middle, under the light of a few scattered torches. And there, I saw the green-haired swordsman tied tightly to a wooden cross, his head lowered and looking exhausted and wounded, but the sharpness of his eyes was still prominent in the darkness. Roronoa Zoro. I approached the platform quietly, my footsteps silent on the dusty ground. There were three drunken Marine guards taking turns guarding him, talking loudly and laughing rudely. It wasn't difficult to get past them without them noticing me. When I was sure the area was completely safe, I stood in front of Zoro. At that moment, the system interface appeared in front of me, displaying information about Zoro: [Roronoa Zoro]

Copying Condition:

Witness Zoro defeat at least one opponent in direct combat. "What a miserable sight, Pirate Hunter! For protecting the innocent from the Navy's tyranny, you've been imprisoned and will be executed." I whispered in a low voice, barely audible. Zoro slowly raised his head, his sharp eyes piercing the dark night. "Who are you? And what do you want from me?" His voice was hoarse and full of pain. "I am Lucifer D. Diablo. And I am here to offer you to join my crew, to become my first mate, Zoro!" I said seriously. Zoro frowned. "Your crew? I am a pirate hunter! How can I join a pirate?" "Isn't it the Navy who betrayed you because of their corruption? Are you telling me you prefer death to being my first mate?" I smiled calmly and extended my hand holding his swords towards him. "I believe these belong to you." Zoro's eyes widened in shock and anger when he saw his swords. "You... how did you get these? What are you planning?" Before I could answer, a rough voice came from behind me. "Hey you! What are you doing loitering around the execution square?" I turned slowly to see a large soldier holding a spear standing a few steps away from me, looking at me. At that moment, the system interface appeared in front of me, displaying information about the soldier: [Marine Soldier]

Available Talents for Copying:

Basic Physical Strength (Level F-)

Basic Agility (Level D)

Spear Usage (Level D)

Copying Condition:

Engage in direct combat with the soldier. "I was just returning some belongings to their owner." I replied in a calm tone, gesturing to Zoro's swords. "Belongings of a criminal? That's enough! Come with me, you scoundrel!" The soldier reached out, trying to grab my shoulder. I sighed quietly, extended my fist towards his body in a light movement so that the system would register it as combat to fulfill the condition, then took a step back. "It seems you're determined to cause trouble." The system message appeared: [Copying condition for the Marine Soldier's talents met. You can now choose one talent to copy.] I quickly chose Basic Physical Strength (Level F-). Another message appeared: [Talent copied: Basic Physical Strength (Level F-). Assimilation: Instant.] I felt power flowing through my body. I used the newly copied physical strength. My movements were more powerful. I moved quickly. I focused on the soldier, and before he lunged at me, I dodged his attempt to grab me with a boxing move and moved quickly towards him, delivering a powerful downward punch to his chin, knocking him unconscious. Zoro looked at me intently, then at his swords in my hand. Anger and confusion were evident on his face. And before he spoke again, I untied his ropes. The sunlight was on the horizon, morning had come. I looked at Zoro with a smile. "Take your swords, Zoro." I extended the swords towards him again. "Think about my offer. The seas await us. Become my first mate!" Before either of us could say more, we heard the sounds of more soldiers approaching. "What's going on here?!" "Looks like the party's about to start." I whispered to myself. About ten soldiers rushed in from different corners, their swords and spears gleaming in the faint morning light. [Marine Soldier 1-10]

Available Talents for Copying:

Basic Physical Strength (Level F-)

Basic Agility (Level D-)

Sword/Spear Usage (Level E+)

Copying Condition:

Engage in direct combat and defeat them. Zoro looked at them coldly, then turned to me. "Why are you helping me?" he asked sharply. "Because I see great strength in you. And such strength should not be wasted because of the Navy's corruption." I replied as I prepared to fight. "Now, will you fight by my side or will you prefer to rust on this cross?" Zoro picked up his three swords with amazing skill despite the marks of the restraints on his wrists. "I don't like owing anyone. But these fools deserve punishment." "Then, let's begin." I said with a side smile. The soldiers lunged at us simultaneously. I moved quickly, taking advantage of my body's agility and newly acquired strength. My punches carried more force, and my movements were smoother. I knocked down two soldiers with two consecutive punches. Beside me, Zoro was a whirlwind of steel. His swords spun and cut with deadly precision, felling the soldiers one after another without seemingly much effort. His swordsmanship was truly amazing. The system message appeared: [Copying condition for the Marine Soldier's talents met. You can now choose one talent to copy.] I chose Sword Usage (Level E+) from one of the soldiers who had just fallen. The message appeared: [Talent copied: Sword Usage (Level E+). Assimilation: Instant.] I temporarily ignored Zoro's message, focusing on the fight. We had to get out of here before more reinforcements arrived. "Zoro, can you move quickly if I cover you?" I asked him as I blocked the attack of three soldiers at once, using a sword that had fallen from one of them with rudimentary skill, but because of the Sword Usage talent, it was enough to keep them at bay. "Hmph. Don't tell me what to do." he replied as he jumped forward, using his swords to clear a path between the remaining soldiers. At that moment, we heard a booming voice from afar. "What is this commotion? Who dares to cause chaos in my base?" A large man with an axe on his right hand appeared, standing at the entrance of the square gate. And behind him were the rest of the base's soldiers. He was wearing an ornate Marine uniform and looked extremely angry. Captain Morgan "Axe-Hand". [Captain Morgan]
