Chapter 50 - Run, Little Girl!

Chapter 50 – Run, Little Girl!

"Hurry up! Climb higher, Yuigahama-san!"

Yukino said this while looking at where the huge bear was running.

Based on what she saw, the creature's target wasn't the two of them, but the large river nearby.

Why did Yukino make that conclusion? A swarm of giant bees was behind the bear, which was making a terrifying buzzing noise as it chased after them.

Just one look was enough to make her hair stand up. It's no wonder the bear was running for its life.

Yukino was more worried about the swarm of giant bees than the bear.

She could only hope that she and Yui would stay hidden in the upper branches of the trees, so that they wouldn't be seen by those huge creatures.

Yui also realized the danger was coming up fast.

She sped up and started climbing faster.

But sometimes, when you're panicking, you become careless.

She almost fell off the vine ladder, but Yukino never let go of the safety rope. Yukino quickly tugged, and Yukino helped her grip the tree vine tightly again.

As soon as she reached the top, Yui immediately sat on the wide branch, struggling to catch her breath. Her heart was about to burst.

There were three loud thumps, one after the other.

That was the heavy sound of the bear's footsteps crossing the grassland.

A loud buzzing sound followed.

Yukino and Yui had to duck down low among the thick branches.

The lamp tree was over twenty meters tall and very sturdy. Its branches were wide enough to hold five to six adults.

It's no surprise that Jun chose to build a treehouse here.

Yui was quiet, breathing slowly and evenly.

They could only wait... until the buzzing and ground vibrations gradually faded away.

Byuur!

A loud noise came from the river.

Yukino looked out from between the leaves and saw the bear jump into the water.

Just as she thought, the bear chose to jump into the river to save itself.

But the giant bees weren't ready to give up.

The river wasn't deep enough, so the bear's huge body wasn't completely under the water.

Half of its head was still above the water.

Suddenly, the queen bee stung the bear on the head with her stinger.

"ROAR! ROOOAAARR!"

The bear was in so much pain when it screamed. It tried to go deeper into the water, but it couldn't.

But whether it was because of its buoyancy or its body being too fat, part of its butt still stuck out above the surface, like a small hill on the water.

The giant bees immediately took advantage of this weakness.

Several of them stung the bear's rear.

Even though the fur and skin there were thick, the bees' stingers were much sharper and more lethal.

Glub… Glub…

The bear rose up out of the water, dealing with the pain as it hit the river's surface with its paws.

A bee flying too low was immediately smacked into the water, sinking and never coming back up.

The death of their comrade made the bees even angrier. They attacked more savagely.

The bear's face, already blind in one eye, was almost unrecognizable because of the swelling.

The venom from the stings spread quickly through its body.

The bear fell face-down in the water.

The queen bee and her swarm kept stinging the rest of the bear's body. The stings made the bear's rear, belly, and chest swell up and turn blue.

Soon after, the huge body couldn't stand up anymore.

It was lying at the edge of the river, breathing out gently from its nose and mouth.

But even those were the last traces of a fading breath.

After they were done expressing their anger, the queen bee finally flew away, and then the whole group of bees followed her.

Silence.

The forest was completely quiet.

Only the large bear lying stiff by the riverbank remained, a reminder of the scary event that had just occurred.

"Is it dead?"

Yui pointed at the bear, which wasn't moving at all.

"I don't know," Yukino said quietly.

"This is the first time I've seen a bear that big... and bees that big too..."

"These creatures are just too scary..."

Yui was still weak from the fear she had felt earlier. She was so scared that she almost wet herself.

"It's okay. It's all over now. But it seems like this place isn't as safe as it looks."

Yukino looked at the bear in the distance. She wasn't sure the creature was really dead.

"If Jun-kun comes with Megumi and the others, and that bear isn't dead... what will happen?"

Yukino was worried.

Jun, who was hiding in a tree, had already seen three wild people running toward him from far away.

The man wearing a necklace made of animal fangs was the same wild man who had fought with the python the other day. The other wild man, carrying a stone spear, had also been seen by him at that time.

Jun was holding a bow and arrow, and he was aiming it at the head of the savage leader, who was running.

Jun also recognized the little one running next to them.

That girl was probably the one who had been dragged by the savages back then, and most likely their captive.

If that little girl hadn't kept shouting "Ula ula" in that wild person's voice, Jun might've thought she was another plane crash survivor stuck on the island.

The girl's skin looked pale as she ran, and her face looked soft and delicate.

The girls hiding behind the bushes were also shocked when they saw the small girl.

Could there still be other survivors being held at the savages' camp that day?

Utaha and Ginko were very alert, watching that savage girl closely.

Seeing her being chased by two muscular wild men, both Utaha and Ginko silently wished the girl could fly away and escape.

Run fast! If you get caught, they'll definitely eat you!
