Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10

Sunlight flashed across my face announcing the break of dawn. I turned to see that Dante had gotten out of bed already. A sweet aroma came from the kitchen and the smell of freshly baked pie aroused an appetite in me. I quickly slipped into my flip flops, put my robe on and headed to the kitchen to see what was going on.

"Hey, goodmorning, hope your night was great?" Dante asked, lifting his gaze off for a second from the scrambled eggs he was cooking.

I'm

"Yea my night was alright", I responded hesitantly with my eyes scanning all over the kitchen.

"Have a seat", he offered and came to pull out a chair for me.

"Oh- thank you", I said with surprise in my tone. I wasn't expecting the gesture from him. I wasn't expecting any of it generally.

He was wearing grey sweatpants with the apron hung over his bare chest. I couldn't ignore how good he looked with his curly hair laying all over his face.

"Looking good this morning," I said unconsciously.

"Hmm don't I always look good?"

That response made me regret letting that compliment slip out of my mouth. A simple thank you could've been better.

"So what's the special occasion? Why are you making me breakfast?" I asked.

"Making you breakfast?" He asked with one brow lifting over the other.

"Yeah, why are you making me breakfast?" I repeated my question

"Ohh- well you were sleeping in there like a log and if I waited for you, I'd probably starve to death. I didn't have dinner because of you"

"Ohh-" what was I even thinking, that Dante would want to do something as nice as making breakfast for me?

"I actually thought of making you breakfast as a peace offering. I've been crusty lately and taking it out on you wasn't nice" Dante said as he served a slice of pie on to a plate for me.

I stared in awe.

"Scrambled eggs?" He pointed to the pan with the spatula.

"Yeah sure".

I had a taste of the pie and good Lord, I never imagined a grumpy arrogant guy like him could cook so well. The pie was a whole burst of flavors and in a minute, I finished the entire slice.

"Enjoying it huh?" Dante asked rhetorically, putting another slice for me.

I dug in as soon as he put the second slice on the plate. It was so good, I didn't expect it. Plus the pregnancy has been really affecting my appetite. I was eating way much more than I usually did. I'd never had pie and scrambled eggs before but it went together so well, I enjoyed every bit of it.

After breakfast we both bathed so we could head out. I had my bath in my bathroom while Dante used the guest bathroom.

"Want me to drop you off at the hospital?"Dante asked as I placed the necklace he gifted me around my neck.

It had become my everyday accessory, not necessarily because it was given to me by him, but because it was really beautiful and it matched most of my outfits.

"Yeah sure,thank you" I replied.

The drive to the hospital was a long one. I wonder why rich people loved to go to hospitals far away when they could easily visit the hospitals in town.

Bandera Memorial Hospital was a privately owned hospital and it was highly known for its competence and had recognition all over the country. Driving into the hospital vicinity, I was really fascinated by the large buildings and how neat the place was. It was exceptional.

I waited for Dante to come down to open the door for me. He had made a ritual for him to do that whenever he drove me. This arrogant, grumpy, condescending man had a bit of sweetness in him after all.

"Thank you" I said as I got down from the car with support from him.

He simply responded with a nod.

"See you later," I said.

"I could come with you if you want me to. It's your first time here, you might need some help finding your way around." Dante said and I was thrown by surprise.

"If you want to follow me around, you know you can just say so" I said to him teasingly.

"Follow you around?" He said with a look on his face that proved he didn't get my sarcasm.

"Nevermind, yes you can come with me" I Said to him.

He locked the car and we walked into the largest building that stood in the middle of the compound. The door had a tag that clearly spelt out 'RECEPTION'.

"Good Morning sir", we weren't informed you'd be coming along today, the receptionist said with an unnecessarily large smile on her face.

Dante was obviously one of their biggest clients. He made the news one time when he made a very large donation to the hospital.

"I just thought of accompanying my wife today," Dante responded.

I felt awkward when he referred to me as his wife. Well technically I was, that was the agreement, but it still felt a bit weird to me.

"Hello ma'am" the receptionist waved to me with a smile.

I waved and smiled back in response.

In a short while we were ushered into the doctor's office. Everything about the hospital screamed expensive. The doctor's office was so convenient, I wouldn't mind a doctor's appointment every week.

"Hello Mr. Dante" the doctor said, stretching his hand across the table for a handshake.

"And the absolutely stunning Sienna, Mrs Dante. You look exquisite I must say"

My eyes fluttered at the doctor's complement.

"Thank you sir" I managed to say.

"You too make an amazing couple".

"Sure we do," Dante responded.

"It says here that you're six weeks pregnant, Sienna," the doctor said as he went through my documents on his computer.

"Congratulations to the both of you"

"Thank you doctor", Dante and I responded in unison.

"Doctor basically, I want the best care for her during and after the pregnancy and I believe your hospital is the very best and you wouldn't disappoint me" Dante said.

"Of course, you have come to the right place," the doctor replied.

"My wife means the world to me, and I don't want anything to go wrong with either her and the baby"

Dante's words pierced through my heart. I saw the genuine concern in his eyes and in that moment, I realized, the man sitting beside me wasn't such a bad person after all.
